Personally, I'd love to see a red derivative of the TSGN livery. Don't think it would look too good on the Pendo's, though...

Any idea when they'll begin to appear in the line? Very glad they have made this move - XC needs do to the same as a heck of a clean is needed!

Hopefully only on the Pendo's, scrap the dreadful voyagers, no need for the capital V-not good enough for me

To be fair, the doors were recently de-striped on the 390s. I imagine minor changes to design and colour.
The oldest of the trains are 15 years old and haven't been touched at all, the paint on them does look a bit tired.

I saw one the other day which had red paint flaking off the roof line.

Some of those body sides with the cover up stickers are almost in excess of 50 shades of grey..
Thanks,

Any ideas when we are likely to see the first pendolino outshopped in this new livery?

Insider knowledge - It's only the 390's getting done. Again I've seen it but wouldn't like to post any pictures. They are starting with the 9 car sets first with the first due out mid sept. Again it's a grey base with the azuma red ends and darker grey doors. It is very plain although the computerised images are not too bad.

A good move, but it would depend on having enough Pendolini.

With luck the new franchise will bring some movement on this.

you would need a bi-mode for the north wales coast

virgin's voyagers aren't too bad at all with one standard coach having a perfect interior with all seats lined up with the windows

Info:

Our new livery approach to both East Coast and West Coast is named ‘flowing silk’. It’s a simple concept but with very effective, unique results. Inspired partly by design and brand from across the Virgin Group, it wraps a literal ‘Virgin’ red ribbon in and around our trains, owning them, holding them, making them truly ours. It adds curves, shapes and dynamism wherever it goes, and the flow across the train itself takes its main inspiration from the natural world… the wind.

Think of our new livery and its unique ‘wind’ flow as a metaphor for our trains. The wind is endless, it never stops, it is relentless, it has unlimited power, it refreshes, it is a literal breath of fresh air. From a hot summer breeze to a cold winter blast, the wind drives temperature, changes emotions, affects both the physical and the mental. It wraps itself around you, a cooling gust makes you feel relaxed, a big ‘whoosh’ makes you feel alive! Our trains embody all of the above. They literally ‘go like the wind’.

The static nature of a train, as most customers see it on a station, mean they can feel quite lifeless, very mechanical and devoid of personality – by taking the natural flow of wind to our Virgin red and creating this new style, they are suddenly alive, ready to go, speed machines with attitude. They have style AND substance in one polished, perfect package. Our new style, with its different, unique and bold swooping forms, heralds a new beginning for Virgin Trains, and a change in one of Britain’s greatest brands.

One where we are no longer a challenger, we are a leader. We fly the flag. We shoot for the stars. We push forward and expect others to follow. We show that ‘how it’s always been’ isn’t good enough anymore. We’re not just shaping our future, but the future of the whole rail network in Britain.

I thought I wouldn't like it, but actually I do - it has a European "high speed" look about it for some reason, possibly because it's a bit like the AVE or TGV Lyria livery.

Odd, as normally I find liveries without a window band look unfinished.

That "info" is a right load of Virgin brand-ese waffle, though, isn't it? :)

I bet the LM being stationary on the simulation was deliberate :)

It does need the yellow stripe for 1st adding, though.

Actually, Virgin are making a bit of a song-and-dance about a dismal livery here. There are very good reasons why it's so boring, well debated previously.

It will no doubt be changed when the new franchise is awarded. Should the Virgin consortium get it, the 390s will probably be 'sexed-up', as per the 800s, with vinyls. Maybe. ;)

Feels like we're getting '50 shades of grey' with most of the 'new' liveries.

Agreed. On the up side, at least the (IMO) hideous striped doors have gone. Those always reminded me of a building site.

The pictures show nice red ends, but the trouble is, with 7 or 9 all-grey carriages in between the ends, that leaves an awful lot of nothing but grey in between. Most of the time, most people will be standing near the middle of the train, and won't see the ends at all. All you'll see is grey.

I always felt the old Pendolino design looked very dull from close up, for example if you were on a platform about to board a train, but the black around the windows did make the trains look very impressive if you saw them travelling at speed from some distance away. I'm struggling to imagine the new livery having anything like the same effect. To me, it just looks boring.

What would really cheer me up would be if they got rid of those announcements about flushing goldfish and sweaters and so on down the loos. (First time I heard one of those, it was very funny and did make me laugh - and I felt rather impressed at Virgin's attempt at humour. Second time - a bit less funny. By about the fiftieth time it was really a case of 'purlease, not again...')

Virgin sure know how to sell a new livery... even if it's as simple as this one.

Looking at the file name at the top, it's certainly an 'interim' livery. It looks like it's just going to be a job of more red if VT win again.

Looks absolutely horrible. Could've at least had blue doors and kept the dotted line below the windows to fill the space up a bit.

I reckon they'll change the door colours as they're a similar colour to the body.

Highly doubt it. I imagine the colour of the body and the doors will be akin to DOR East Coast, seeing as their livery passed through DDA compliances despite there being not as great a contrast to what it could've been.

Oh dear. A better livery would have been all over light grey with a virgin logo at each cab end and red doors.
