Had a call from SWT offering me an interview for the position of train driver at Woking, can anyone tell me what routes run out of Woking am I correct in saying you sign
Alton Line
Portsmouth Direct Line to Guildford and stations to Portsmouth
Southwestern Mainline to Winchester, Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth
Waterloo to Woking

Also what Traction is used is it the class 444 'Desiro', and the 450. Any info would be greatly received.

(Not Leatherhead-Dorking, Staines-Windsor, Ascot-Reading, East Putney or Fulwell Jn-Strawberry Hil direct.) Various sidings signed too. And Guildford-Ascot which falls outside of what most people would describe as the Suburban network.

Well, I applied in December, I didn't want to chase them up too much so sent them an email, my application only changed recently from "New" to "In Process" so I haven't even had the assessment yet. TBH I'll stick with it but in the meantime I applied for several Signaller roles and managed to get one so I'm not desperate. I also have an application going with GWR for driver so I have options.

Having passed my DMI, I have been invited to attend an MMI. Was looking for some answers on how SWT go about conducting the day, i.e. SJT, answering 6 questions based on questions asked earlier that form the interview.
How long does the interview last? And what sort of questions are asked? Don't want to get this one wrong as I know this counts as one of your strikes, so any info would be most welcoming.

The mmi in my view was more thorough and in depth than the dmi, the Dmi I quite enjoyed but the mmi lasted around 1.50 hours.
SWR started with the computerised sjt and then straight onto filling out the 6x interview questions. This was a mix of questions I had answered at Dmi and new ones, luckily I had good examples for all.
The interview itself was full on, all I can say is don't waffle and stick to the STAR method also be honest. The lady doing the interview tended to go back over her notes to confirm bits of information several times, wether this was to try and catch me out or not?

Thanks for the reply, thought the MMI would be a bit more intense than the DMI, thinking up a couple of answers to each questions. Working in a safety critical position already I have quite a lot experience to fall back on, just don't want to fall at this stage being so close.
Well done on passing both MMI and the medical, think they have courses starting in October and November.

Hi Dan; when did you have your medical? I had mine last week I'm assuming i've passed as the doctor passed me fit on the day just alcohol/drugs pending which I know obviously will be clear. I'm still waiting for the phonecall to officially be told ive passed, have you had yours or same as me did the doctor declare you fit?

but that they plan to resume interviews from September onwards.


However i am extremely skeptical about how likely it is that any future guard interviews, let alone guard training courses will actually happen!

Since given that GWR and MTR who are taking over the franchise have both said they gna scrap the guard role and move to driver-only trains,
i cannot see why they would continue ahead with recruiting more new guards now...??

I wouldn't worry too much about this at the moment, the current fleet now need guards including 707's. Any changes to the guard position (which havent even been confirmed what, they still might even need a guard) wont be until the new trains enter service and that isnt until 2019/2020. I would carry on as normal for now focusing your full attention on securing the position

Ok great stuff good to hear, has referencing/CRB been all done? Salary is about 48 something once fully productive but I believe they've just had a 3% payrise so just short of 50k. What depot are you down for as different depots also have different allowances on top of salary

I was originally down for Woking, they then asked if I would change to Staines as they need more drivers there. Personally it's much better for me as I live less than 10 minutes from there.
What depot are you down for? I may yet end up on the November course, can't see me having my medical and contract signed before the October intake.
Exciting times ahead and can't wait to get started.
