It has been well discussed that there have been no changes at all but those for PRM compliance - painted handlebars, door sounders and accessible toilets.

We can only assume (and hope) that at some point a 156 with either new seat covers or completely new seats will appear, complete with new painting and carpeting, wifi, sockets, and so on.

Just to clarify, the refurbishment programme has two stages. The first stage is primarily about PRM, a general refresh of the interior, LED lighting, adding of the PIS, and an overhaul of the train (because it's scheduled in with general heavy maintenance). The current seat covers are stop-gaps. There will be then be a second stage where WiFi and new seats (same design as the new CAF trains) are added, and the PIS is updated to give real-time info. This will bring it up to the standard people expect of this kind of refurbishment. The 158s will be to the same standard as the new CAF trains in terms of the number of features, because they'll be running Northern Connect services between Carlisle and Middlesbrough and there's a set standard they have to be at for that.

Also look out for an announcement this coming week.

From that list of the future arrivals, 150202 has had a refresh/repaint for GWR and also has had its PRM mods completed

156484 now in new Northern and 156489 is in unbranded Northern White. Does anyone know if there will be any Visit Yorkshire / Promotional vinyls like those that 156441/448/461/464/469/484/490 and the 150/2s have carried applied in the future. I 've always been puzzled that there was never one that promoted Blackpool. The skyline silhouette "Connecting the North" signs at Workington, Chorley, Salford Central and Manchester Oxford Road have managed to survive from the last TOC and I would like to see those used in a greater capacity again, it's a pity that it is not carried on the body sides of current units.

That's good to hear that there are more phases of work to come for the fleet. I assume they'll be able to speed up the process once units start cascading from other operators.

Well naming a 319 'Northern Powerhouse' didn't work so well. It appeared Northern's management got George Osborne to unveil a plaque on the most unreliable 319 because they knew the Northern Powerhouse was a non-starter. ;)
Ha. Well, that sort of thing is part of it - apparently naming a train after Jimmy Savile was discussed at one point. But as much as anything, it's a lot of hassle to organise a ceremony - I helped out with the last one, for the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, and a lot of work went into it - and what for? There are more practical things we can do for people than sticking a vinyl on a Sprinter.

That said, for many in the company (particularly at regional level) it's the go-to thing to do to honour someone/a group and they're still keen, but they're not supposed to. But all the current names are due to come off during refurbishment.

Most unreliable 319? Who says?

The part that Northern management knew it was unreliable wasn't intended to be taken seriously but it failed in passenger service 3 times in quick succession soon after being named Northern Powerhouse by George Osborne, much to the amusement of The Guardian and City AM who picked up on that.

Have you seen why the 17:23 from Picc to Hazel Grove has been cancelled tonight? (At least the Buxton service is picking up the Levenshulme and Heaton Chapel calls)

Something about a slower train?

I'm not following. That service used to be operated by 2 x 142s and is still has 14x timings. Are you suggesting it was cancelled due to a 323 being swapped for a 319? If so I'd guess the cancellation would be down to the booked driver/guard not signing 319s. If a 319 can't run to 14x timings then there's something wrong with the unit.

Caped due to a 323 shortage. A 319 has NOT been to Hazel Grove tonight!

150134 has had PRM mods done, but repainted in to old livery

155346 was briefly out on Saturday, saw it pass through Leeds out of service around 0930

156489 is out in new colours but no vinyl or interior work by the look of it.

I've been busy with work etc, so I haven't had a chance to get to it until this evening.

Good of you to keep this up to date, but are you sure 156438 & 469 have been PRM'ed and relivered? I haven't got either recorded.

Opposite way around, 156451 has received the new Northern scheme in full.

156491 has been PRM'ed - or at least superbog fitted, note the revised window arrangement on the near end in this view.

I'm not sure why I put 156438 as repainted and modified, my own records don't state it has either. I must have been mistaken on 156469!

I've adjusted those two and added the extra information about 451 and 491.

Thanks. :)

I would agree that 362 was unreliable at that time but that was a long time ago now. I was on 362 on 20 June from Preston to St Helens Central and had no problems.
