50 and 56 Bham Intl to Carlisle 1st August, same day as Spitfire, anyone intersted?
. Will either tour be formed of [spits] air-conditioned stock do you think?I think it also depends what stock is available at the time as regards to whether aircons are used.
As far as i'm aware there should not be any aircons on the Spitfire spin and win as there is no ETH device.Ooooh, very awkward. Makes planning to avoid tours with aircons all the more difficult, and the likelihood of disappointment all the higher![]()
50.Will this tour be 50's to Leeds and a 56 onwards then? If it happens...
50.
Judging by PF's lack of actually asking the C50A whether or not they can use their 50 will decide whether it goes ahead or not.
50044 is the only one mainline capable at the moment. 50031 is still out pending generator repairs and 50049 is out with wheelset repairs and overhaul.

Who said anything about this tour being worked by a C50A machine?![]()
The plan is for the Hanson 56 to work Birmingham Int - Crewe - Huddersfield - Leeds and back and 50008 Leeds - Carlisle - Hexham - York - Leeds. However, all factors are yet to be tied down so this gen is still to be taken as indicative.
Got about two months to repair no.8, fit the safety gear, repaint and test it with I would have thought the need to run it in on a pres line first, can you see it happening? Fair play if they do though.
I was only relaying what Pathfinder posted, it does seem a rather tall order considering the loco was only started this week and last hauled a train in around 1992, so I will reserve judgement! However these things do sometimes happen - I remember back in May 1999 when I was involved in the DPS, at 3pm on Thursday we had an uncertified Deltic on jacks at Crewe HC. By 6pm it was on a test run and at 08.03 on the Saturday it left King's Cross on a tour for York and back!
Do Spitfire always use the WCR Mk Is? If so, that'll save me from e-mailing them asking if they'll be using horrible aircons on their Cumbrian Crusader tour, which looks like a cracker.
Alex where in the sectional appendix does it say that?If it was being routed via the Cumbrian Coast, as what the Cumbrian Coaster tour will be doing on the return leg, then the booked stock will be air-conditioned coaches due to clearance issues between Maryport and Carlisle banning Mk1/Mk2 PVs from being used on that section.
Fair point, if they do get it running, and it's a big if, then I'll eat my hi-vis.Who said anything about this tour being worked by a C50A machine?![]()
