whats different about them?

They've actually got a different body profile not as tapered. Also, more of the "serives" have been packaged beneath the floor, rather that in the ceilling and the walls.

I thought it was more or less the same body profile? I thought the main differences was systems and electronics?

What reason dont you like them? I understand voyager, but why meridians?

Seem to vibrate and rattle just as badly to me, if anything they seem to be falling apart quicker inside with more obvious signs of wear and tear. Equally rubbish but at least they work(ed) more sensible trains (ie Derby semi-fasts) than Voyagers do.

The 1218 is always an HST, you would probably have problems with crew knowledge getting a Turbo to Taunton.

I know, but the xx18 path is usually occupied by a Turdo to Bedwyn, just on the hour Liam chose, it happens to be an HST extended to Taunton (at the notable sacrifice of the Kintbury call, although it calls at Slough instead?). By all rights it should be an Adelante, along with all the Oxfords, but I guess that would've been common sense.

I fail to see how it is a good thing, rogACE, that all HSTs out of Paddington call at Reading, trains can often loose 3/4 minutes there due to congestion, slow pax and lazy staff. It's appalling that only TWO trains per day don't call there, and one of them calls at Maidenhead instead (only the 0640 Bristol - Paddington is truly fast, from Swindon to Paddington).

Oh yeah, I forgot about the vibrating. Also on the note of meridians, anyone know why MML chose purple seats?

I agree, and that's even as someone who often stays in Reading! There are so many trains it's unnecessary, and while it's a big interchange a fair few services could be lost without noticing. Reading is about 30 minutes from London - by comparison, Virgin are now running lots of services non-stop all the way from Stafford (1:25) and Warrington (2:00)!

it doesnt matter to me that they all stop at reading, lol, i go on further but
i agree fast expresses to the west non-stop thru reading would be very advantageous,

i did read somewhere that some official document said that all trains must stop there , correct me if i am wrong though...
bit like the waterloo-exeter line after beeching i read also that all trains must be stoppers...

as for voyagers i cant bear them, and now they are getting very tatty and need a re-furb urgently,

the only DEMU that is sort of ok is SWT 159's to exeter,
they have been re-furb'ed and are sort of pleasant to travel on...

voyagers can be scrapped imho

Yeh, they should be Adelantes, a HST being an overkill on capacity when I have travelled on them, its about every 3 hours it extends to Exeter isn't it? The Reading call is useful, it is the main interchange for stations towards Paddington on Turbos, easier and usually quicker than changing at Paddington.

Well like I said, two trains do not stop at Reading, the 0640 Bristol - Paddington and the 0711 Oxford - Paddington, both booked PASS through Reading at 0749 (the 0711 is on the slows). As for the WOE, that's not true either, the Saturday 1120 Waterloo - Paignton is hardly a stopper, seeing as after Salisbury it calls only at Gillingham, Yeovil Junction, Honiton, Exeter Central and Exeter St Davids, before continuing to Dawlish Warren and then all stations to Paignton.

I would propose having one train per hour non stop through Reading, possibly a Bristol service as there would still be one train per hour to Bristol.

lol:D
i guess that 1120 sats (summer only?) waterloo-paignton is our last grasp on the famous 'ACE' hehe, bulleid hauled?:p

i think there was a directive that originally all WoE trains did stop at most stations but i guess thats been watered down by now and the service compared to post-beeching to the start of 159's is much improved in frequency,
we just need to it re-doubled throughout now...
i wish sigh.....but please no voyagers ever lol

rogACE- 1xx class numbers indicate Diesel Hydrualic and Mechanical. The DEMUs are coded as 2xx classes

Yeah, I believe that working is the very last vestige of the Atlantic Coast Express. It runs to that stopping pattern all year round, Saturdays only. I believe it used to have a portion join it at Salisbury from Brighton via Portsmouth & Southsea, but that's no longer the case.

A number of Waterloo - Exeter trains do not stop at the stations between Honiton and Exeter Central.

The return equivalent of the 1120 WAT - PGN runs Monday - Saturday, the 1235 PGN - WAT, and calls at Torquay, Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Dawlish, Dawlish Warren, Exeter St Davids, Exeter Central, Honiton, Axminster, Yeovil Junction, Gillingham, Tisbury (shack!), Salisbury, Andover, Basingstoke, Woking, Clapham Junction and Waterloo.

The 1350 YVJ - WAT is also what could be called a "fast", as it calls only at Sherborne and Gillingham west of Salisbury.
