I'm quite supprised by how many 08s are on the livery list, I didn't think GWR would have that many. Which depot is each one based at? I think Landore has two, but which ones?

08410 Penzance
08483 OC
08641 LA
08663 St Philips Marsh
08795 Landore
08822 St Philips Marsh
08836 OC
are the last know locations that I know of.

In addition to those listed, 08644 was at Laira then went away supposedly for repair but didn't come back. I'm not sure where it is now.

ps 08645 used to be at Laira too, don't know what happened to that either.

For the hoppers to be removed I would expect a 99.9%+ reliability of air cooling, otherwise the failures will lead to passenger action issues.

Chiltern took out all the hopper windows when they installed similar kit on the 165/0s, a system that has been pretty much bombproof since day one, so really can't see why GWR would do anything different.

The Chiltern sytem uses 4 separate air cooling units per coach, so even if there is a failure it will only tend to affect part of a coach. The down side is it uses up quite a lot of the former luggage rack space.

Pass and no; still blue.

It would appear the hoppers have not been removed, nor have they been locked shut (one is slightly open in this picture!)

It's looking very smart though, even if it does still retain the Dynamic Lines livery.

It looks like at least two hoppers are slightly open. Quirky, to say the least, that a unit that's been OOS for so long should return in the old livery!

This while GWR have told me that they can't supply the first class antimacassars for the huge number missing from the 166s as they haven't got the GWR-style ones!

Does the white roof extend to the passenger saloons or just the cab?

From the picture it's not too clear. Given that it's been fitted with new air conditioning cooling, it may well extend across the top of the entire train.

For the umpteenth time, the 165/1s, like the Chiltern 165/0s, are being fitted with air cooling - which is not air conditioning.

In basic terms, air cooling does what it says on the tin - cools the air. Air conditioning systems also dehumidify the air.

The crash repair contract probably called for the damaged car to be returned to the condition it was running in at the time it derailed, so that would be a full-length white roof.

Green paint will have to wait until it is 165124's turn to go to Wolverton.

I wasn't trying to deceive you or anyone else by saying "air conditioning", it was a force of habit and accidental mis-wording on my part. I am aware of the differences between the two, thank you.

That said, as long as it has some effect at cooling the air I don't really care how it works given past experiences with the GWR 16x fleet.

I didn't realise that 158766 was green, I must keep up at the state of play with the 158s

You're not too out of date, it was only out for first passenger service yesterday.

Does anybody know if another will be going in immediately, or if they'll wait until after the busy summer period like I think they did last summer?

It used to be the practice to suspend Works visits during the High Summer period. Don't know about the remaining 150/2s though as Wolverton is closing later this year and GWR will want to get them through.

Hope I don't come across as being pedantic but it's first trip in service was actually the night before, 2E22 2242 Bristol TM to Gloucester. Couldn't wait to get it out quick enough as severe shortage of units.

shouldn't you differentiate between local lines and plain blue livery?

only one 153 remains in proper local lines livery: 153382

It was a nice surprise to find a beautifully refurbished green 158 766 on a morning train from Bristol Temple Meads to Great Malvern yesterday. It is seen here at Ashchurch. There was a rather odd mess(age) on the scrolling display inside - the missing three letters never did appear.

The afternoon return journey from Ashchurch also produced something a bit unusual: 3 car 150 001 on a through working to Weymouth.

I was on 158766 yesterday on its return working from Malvern to Weymouth. Quite unusual to get a 2 car 158 on that service though unit shortages have led to some unusual formations in the last week. I also overheard the guard talking to the driver, apparently there was some kind of fault with the doors. There were fitters waiting at Temple Meads but the problem seemed to have rectified itself.

Thanks for the reply, combining that info with the livery list posted by 59CosG95 I get:

Class 08 Shunters:
08410 BR Green livery. Penzance
08483 BR Black livery "NEIL"/"SCOUSEY" Old Oak Common
08641 Modified BR Blue livery, with grey roof & yellow cabside windows. Plymouth Laira
08663 BR Blue livery "St. Silas". St Philips Marsh
08795 BR Black livery Swansea Landore
08822 INTERCITY Swallow livery. "Dave Mills" St Philips Marsh
08836 New GWR livery. Old Oak Common

The grey 08 I have seen at Landore recently is therefore not on the list (don't know the number, sorry), I'm guessing the shunter hiding in the shed at Landore (couldn't tell the livery) must be 08795 then.

Sorry, I can't find a table function to present that nicely.

Thanks very much for the update @Rhydgaled, I'll update the main table when I'm not shattered from night shifts!

You're not too out of date, it was only out for first passenger service yesterday.

Does anybody know if another will be going in immediately, or if they'll wait until after the busy summer period like I think they did last summer?
There was a green uncoupled 158 car outside Barton Hill today. Has 158766 gone back in?

I caught another green 166 (didn't have a chance to note the number as I alighted at Dorking Deepdene) this morning which had yet another mix up with the first class. One end has no silver stripe or large '1' on the door, but has had old BR-style '1' stickers put on each window (!), and has no anti-macassars. What a mess the fleet is in - it's a disgrace. Mark Hopwood keeps dodging the issue when I complain to him.

Who are you?

This made me smile a little bit last week, thought it might amuse some that 205 is now using the old FGW antimacassors over the GWR leather.

And yes, I did notice the ex BR / NSE 1 stickers have made a re-appearance as well.

166205 is another of the units that has the internal and external first class identification mixed up.

GWR have stated to me that a "problem with the antimacassars" has meant that most units have not been carrying them for about a year now! The ones that still do exist are all FGW ones, so why the rest of the units can't carry the same design is anyone's guess. I could have embroidered the new ones myself in that time!

I caught the unit I mentioned earlier again last evening - same diagram. It was 166210 and it had the rear section with the silver stripe and antimacassars, but no window stickers. So - both ends labelled as being first class by different means. The BR-style window stickers have been added very recently, so someone has presumably just slapped them on without even checking or caring whether it was the right end! Shambolic.

I'm in work tomorrow, I'll have to check but I'm 99% sure 166210 (& 1 other) was stopped over the weekend for 'graphics' work.

All the work is carried out by an external contractor. I'll flag up your concerns.

Does it really annoy anyone else, that the class 800s have the white strip around the cab doors and the locking lights, where the vinyl wrap hasn't been done?

Makes the trains looks temporary and horrible
