Hello all,

Looking for few opinions on something that happened recently.

I'd recently applied for the trainee driver role at a TOC, I'm already internal as a Guard. Done the psychometric assessments and was invited to a line manager interview. Got that over and done with and some weeks later I was invited to an MMI, only for that invitation to be retracted minutes later owing to human error to then be informed I was unsuccessful and "the wrong button" had been pressed.

Do I have a right to feel aggrieved by this?

Your thoughts, please.

I don't work in the industry but feel your pain. That must be heart breaking. You don't want to burn any bridges so if you do make a comment make sure it is done professionally. Saying that, even if you do complain - will it make things any better for you? Probably not.

It is very reckless though by HR considering how over the moon most would be after receiving an invite.

***Edit just to add - "burn your bridges" is completely the wrong term. You are completely entitled to share your dissapointment but me being mr.paranoia and knowing how many stages there are to get through I would hate to make life any more tricky for myself. I am sure these assessments are based on fairness but you never know is what I originally meant.

Id kick up a big fuss, go to your union and manager and even though it might not get you anywhere you have clearly been treated very poorly.

Having said that more and more internals are struggling to go from guards to driving due to the financial support the government is giving TOCs to take externals.

It happened to me mate personally I would just take it on the chin and get over it. You know what TOC's are like mention anything about it and you'll be marked, not that they will tell you.

When it happened to me i was livid it took me days to get over! I was preparing emails and saving them into drafts furious about to send to HR but i came to my senses and just accepted it was a mistake (a costly one to your emotions at that)

What part were you unsuccessful ? Was it just the DMI part or an assessment ?

Who made the error ?

It's devastating indeed.. but speak to your recruitment and tell then your not happy about it at all, but also tell them you understand etc etc. If nothing else you would probably be able to put a bit of pressure on them to get some more in depth feedback on what you wasn't very successful on..

Yet your feedback and prepare on that for next time :)

My TOC seems to work the opposite way and move everyone who has had their card marked onto new positions faster.

What is MMI ?

Just the DMI it seems, I have passed all the assessment modules bar the multi module, which I haven't taken yet. The error was made by the HR recruiter.

Then I would advise speaking directly to the Manager that interviewed you. As your internal you most likely know them or work with them. They are also more inclined to give you personal feedback.

As long as you have both your lives intact then you can sit as many DMI's as you want.

Hi and sorry to hear. I agree with most comments on here and can't really add anything else but just thought I'd share this which might seem a bit random but is similar to your experience (and might even improve your mood :) ) :

I remember a few years Australia and India were playing a cricket game and one of the run-out decisions went to the third umpire. He gave it OUT on the big screen by accident and Michael Hussey was called back by the umpires. Obviously and understandably made a lot of Indians who were celebrating very annoyed and upset. You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOubTOwdZjY

Really?

Where would I find an explanation as to why this is so?

One chap did that up this way and strangely ended up with a drivers key a year later.

Kicked off with the union rep - by all accounts had the attitude of 'I deserve to be a driver'

Proper tool even as a guard.

Upsetting and annoying, but HR made an honest mistake and rectified it. They use recruitment systems that one click of the button can send you the wrong automated email.

Definitely not the most popular way to go about it I'll give you that. The number of people I know though he had poor disciplinary/sickness records etc but still got onto driver over others who never caused an issue is madness.

You tend to find people like this make a James Hunt of it eventually.
