Have 170204 or 321448 turned a wheel in service yet?

Also I read that 313205 recently went to Wolverton. Why and is it back yet?

170204 has spent a few days so far deep inside Crown Point having post works exams, checks and finishing touches. Not sure yet if its moved yet.

I don't think 448 has been in passenger traffic since retractioning last year and I think the same applies to the production units 303/4 & 21. There are rumours of a major problem with the Renatus units which is preventing entry into service. All rather dissapointing as on the face of it the 'product' is a massive improvement on the un-refurb units. That said with little more than a year from full introduction of the 30 units (as defined in the Franchise Agreement) in August 2018 and complete replacement with new Aventras one wonders if the whole project is becoming a bit pointless!

Seems to be another nail in the coffin for major refurbs of the classic BR fleet. No wonder new build is seen as better value for money.

170204 remains (as of Sunday night/Monday morning) buried in Crown Point on the comprehensive exam road.

I've got a couple, 142072 (fire last year) and 150208 (saw this split several months ago).

Anyone know what's happening with these?

TIA.

150208 is out and about but never was out of action for any length of time.
142072 last reported as still being assessed but seems somewhat of a mystery, especially as ATW reluctant to disclose the reason as to the cause of the fire. A local MP did keep pressing ATW for info and still managed to drag a little more out of them but not the full story.

Ok ta - 150208 doesn't seem to have allocated recently though, well at least every time I've remembered to check over the last few months! Annoyingly they're the last two I need!

When did you see 150208 in two bits ? It was working in March as I've just seen a picture of it

Scarily, as it only feels like a couple of months ago, it was end of November having just checked the moves!

someone mentioned 365 526, the potters bar victim...

the remainder of the unit was shipped off to the MOD. Whats left of it is now scattered confetti like across the Cumbrian fells as the forces used it for training in the run up to the Olympic Games!

It is my understanding the 325s were built in such a way that they could be converted into passenger stock should the need arise. Bearing in mind they are essentially 319s with networker cabs the conversion should be relatively straightforward - at least that is the theory!

Can't see it happening though since we will soon have more BR EMUs than we know what to do with.

Likewise can't see ATWs pacer ever carrying passengers again seeing as costly repairs will now be unviable due to withdrawal deadline.

All of it? I'm fairly sure it was only the trailing DMOC, the one which suffered the most damage in the accident. That's what I was told five years ago.

313030 isn't on a back road, at least it wasn't the other day. Its sitting as a two car on one of the two siding roads at the southern end of Hornsey depot. The two slightly raised up from ground level and not quite in the depot. Providing nothing goes past you on an adjacent line, its pretty easy to see them.

Was 142072 even that badly damaged? Or were there other problems that aren't quite as noticeable underneath?

Two cars went to Spadeadam, definitely the trailing driving car, and one other car too, presumably the adjacent trailer (which if I remember rightly was derailed in the accident and presumably sustained some, if minor, damage). As for the remaining cars, are they still at Wolverton? Or did they move to Ilford to assist with the refurbishment/overhaul programme for the remaining units?

As an aside, at least one of the pre-production 2009 Tube stock trains found its way to Spadeadam around the same time. It's never been fully clear if all this is for firing practice or explosive testing, both have been suggested by reliable sources.

So having had the dubious honour of being the conductor working 170204 during its tractor altercation in a poetic circle of life kinda way I drove it in Norwich this morning for its first day back in service.

Rail Magazine said:
n the East Repair Shed stand the remains of 365526, which was written off in the 2002 Potters Bar accident. They will be disposed of, but for now they stand forlornly in a dilapidated building that could (unlike the ‘365’) have a future.

So maybe not all of it was blown up for London 2012 training after all. Seems rather confusing as several reports state it was last seen in Wolverton, yet photographic images of it on Flickr are clearly Crewe. The only info I have found is the damaged driving car was disposed of to Spadedeam. Buxton has been mentioned on other forum threads on here. I believe there is some sort of H&S training and investigation centre that way that played a big part in investigating the Kings Cross fire. Cant seem to find the thread on here but something has come up in google on the WNXX page. Im not registered on that site tho...

Now that one I didn't know of. I wonder what the differences were between the pre production units and the production units, enough to surprisingly render their scrapping.

Has the return been successful (apart from the deer)? Is it likely that I will catch her if visiting the area on Friday??

There is something afoot with 221144 with some reforming of 221s. I'm not sure what the end product will look like though.
43160 worked 0730 Paddington to Penzance today and has been back in service for some time now.

221144 is receiving a carriage out of 221136 and 221140 (I think) to be reformed as a 4 car unit

As a side question, does this mean that the Class 68 set will be stood down from the Norwich - Lowestoft runs?

I daresay GA will wait for the refurbs to be completely finished on the 170's before handing the 68's back.

Must have been a nice little excursion for the DRS drivers anyhow!
