A red sky tends to indicate where the warmer air is; if the wind is in the west it will bring the warmer air towards you and hence the saying is correct for the prevailing winds. However, if we have an east wind then the saying works in reverse.

One caveat is that the warmer air is not always the clearer, drier air... It only has to be clear enough in the general direction to allow enough sunlight through to refract into the reds...

Meteorological mumbo-jumbo, the red sky is caused by millions of rain fairies flying away. They have red backsides.

Funny you should mention your butt, as it were, I had a new 46.1935 gallon water butt delivered on monday, I've had to keep it in the garage since then so that the rain didn't damage it :roll:

I've got a leaky (flat) bathroom roof, unfortunately it's me that's going to have to fix it. The other day I touched the ceiling near the light and felt a tingle of electricity so it may have to be done sooner rather than later.

I don't time things right. Its rained all day here in sunny Hemel Hempstead. Much needed though. I work outside and if it rains, I don't work but treat myself to a day out on the trains. 6 months ago I booked myself a check up at the dentist for this afternoon. Sorry to hear about your roof, a man come round to my house to give an estimate once, he said "well guv if it keeps raining like this I estimate you'll have at least a ruined ceiling and your carpet will be knackered as well"

Be careful you don't overcharge yourself, you should probably ask yourself for another quote for comparison.

I was thinking that if you were to get that saw out again you could whip off a finger, assuming you have one or two left available, and then pop it into the leak until the man could book you in for a permanent job ........
