I think this may have been covered but I can't find it on this long thread, so apologies in advance.

When do the peak time trains terminating/starting at South Bermondsey on the Peckham Rye route get extended back to London Bridge?

i.e. so that peak services are every ten minutes rather than the variable ten/twenty minute gap at present?

Probably May 2018 timetable change

So a reminder of what's happening this weekend, hopefully i got this right:

Cannon Street lines will be changed to run through Platform/track 1&2 - their final positions.

Use of track 5 and 6 will end, with 6 not coming back in to use until August as an additional down line for Charing Cross trains (at which point the regular bi-di working of P8 will finish and this will be solely an up), and 5 needing a wedge at the end of its platform finished now the slews for Cannon Street will be gone, coming back in to use for Thameslink in 2018.

Any idea what the new hoarding lines will look like? I assume there won't be much of a view for now for people travelling through from Cannon Street as they'll need to safeguard workers on the unfinished P1/2/3, so it might be wooden boards all the way along I'm guessing.

Is each down train from Charing Cross allocated a fixed platform at London Bridge (i.e. 7 or 8) in the working timetable, or do they change from day to day depending on how the overall service is running?

Yes they have a platform in the timetable. See real train times.

Have they finished the Easter works on time?

It's hard to know, the Southeastern websites says to follow #easterworks for progress updates but I can't see anything at all for London Bridge

Travelled through the down line from Cannon Street earlier. All seemed very smooth. There are no hoardings currently so you can get a good look at the work on Platform 1-6, they seem remarkably complete - P2/3 even has the glazing installed on the stair box! I did try and take a video but it didn't come out too well unfortunately!

A thought popped in to my mind:

Currently with the Charing Cross down service, intended platform at London Bridge is being set well in advance and cannot be changed, this is to prevent people having to descend from the P8/9 island and go back up to the P6/7 island in a hurry (or vice versa). In August when P6 comes in to use and it's one island for ups and one island for downs, this won't be necessary any more.

However, in the final layout the same situation will exist for Cannon Street services. P1 and P2 will be down in the evening peak and they're on different islands, different sets of stairs/escalators.

Will a similar operational constraint be needed so the platform is known well in advance?

From what I remember Cannon Street downs would often flip from P1 to P2 or vice versa during the evening service in the old layout - but this wasn't an issue because in the old layout P1 and P2 were the same island. I remember also ups in the morning peak would occasionally swap from P2 to P3 or vice versa, which led to a lot of people staying at the top of the stairs of the old bridge, and running!

Anyone know the intentions here?

I would think the disability discrimination act will be a consideration. If they do last minute changes enough time would need to be given for someone with mobility issues to change platforms. Its one of the reasons why the NR & TFL journey planners have well padded transit times when changing trains or modes of transport

Finally the Boots has opened...and now there is a decent place to get a value lunch (the great Boots meal deal).....rather than poshing it out with M&S or coping with the overpriced and now disappointing Upper Crust, West Cornwall Pasty Shop and Delice Le France.

Will the opening of the new entrance mean that the old underground passageway where the platform ramps are will finally go? And presumably the bridge to the Cottons centre?

It all stays, unpaid. Stays open during the reconstruction too IIRC.

Looks like the passageway has gone for now, just ticket machines available

Oh that thought had not occurred to me with a Boots in the station. I agree the others are over priced and disappointing. The muffin and hot drink from the Bread Box is an OK deal.

I think that's just temporary, according to twitter it will reopen on Monday.

I think from the planning application, it appeared the bridge and passageway would stay as it's where the fire escapes kick out, but it'll only be useful for getting to the terminal platforms, unless you fancy a very roundabout walk compared to using the new Tooley Street entrance.

I love how they've captured the dent in the photo! The covered passageway from the bridge looks markedly narrower. I guess it'll not reopen or if it does, when it rains it'll be packed as the new walking route is so exposed

You could always have gone to Boots in the Hays Galleria, or Absolutely Starving with their £4 meal deal, Sainsbury's next to the hospital, or Tesco's in More London. They'd each be a max 2 minute walk from the station...

Or even staying within the station, WH Smith do a meal deal for less than £4 with a much wider selection of side and drink than Boots.

Y'all are crazy, Leon's Fish Finger Wrap is the perfect lunch, and they even do nice coffee.

This thread seems unduly preoccupied by catering. It may be because I am from the North, but Fish Finger Wrap sounds disgusting. Lashings of monosodium glutamate no doubt.

Disgustingly good, I say.

But yes, to bring the thread back on topic, no James Nelson videos or #behindthehoardings photos for ages. Anyone know what's going on at LB at the moment? Last thing I saw they'd put half the pre-made brickwork up on the new frontage.

Lots of track work over the last two weekends, and more this weekend.

More importantly, the best food near London Bridge is the Chicken burrito from Chilango.

There is a James Nelson episode from the 8th May, showing the brickwork panels in place. Unfortunately I think it is rapidly approaching (in a few weeks maybe) the stage where there'll be little or nothing to see day by day from either of his normal viewpoints - once the building envelope is complete on the Tooley Street side, and the platform roof panels are are all on, it'll only be a few months of internal fit out left.

Actually cos of space restrictions they dont have the full range and there is always a queue. Bit disappointed, but hey its still better value. Being picky, i dont like the way Bread Box's baps are all uncovered, you can see the fillings going a bit scummy later in the day lol
