A thought popped in to my mind:
Currently with the Charing Cross down service, intended platform at London Bridge is being set well in advance and cannot be changed, this is to prevent people having to descend from the P8/9 island and go back up to the P6/7 island in a hurry (or vice versa). In August when P6 comes in to use and it's one island for ups and one island for downs, this won't be necessary any more.
However, in the final layout the same situation will exist for Cannon Street services. P1 and P2 will be down in the evening peak and they're on different islands, different sets of stairs/escalators.
Will a similar operational constraint be needed so the platform is known well in advance?
From what I remember Cannon Street downs would often flip from P1 to P2 or vice versa during the evening service in the old layout - but this wasn't an issue because in the old layout P1 and P2 were the same island. I remember also ups in the morning peak would occasionally swap from P2 to P3 or vice versa, which led to a lot of people staying at the top of the stairs of the old bridge, and running!
Anyone know the intentions here?
