It is possible to use it on any operator, not just GTR.

It's just a medium.

What matters is the product.

Good luck with that, not the best advice to give out currently. GTR's website makes it very clear
Can I use my Key Season ticket on Virgin Trains East Coast services?

No. For travel between Stevenage and London, The Key is only valid on Great Northern services. Currently Virgin Trains East Coast are not able to accept The Key on their services. .

To be honest the only way we're likely to get clarity is for someone to use it on VTEC, get gripped, refuse to pay any extra, get reported for prosecution and then take their chance in court. If the court agree with the view that it's a medium and therefore not the passengers problem if the train company hasn't issued it's staff the right equipment then great.

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 5 characters.

Also, as the lead operator GTR cannot introduce a 'GN only' fare which is basically what GTR as saying The Key is.

Well you have fun with that. Whilst you may technically be correct, for the sake of using a piece of plastic instead of a piece of card it really isn't worth the aggro for what is clearly the vast majority of people (based on how few use it at Stevenage compared to elsewhere!)

Anyway as said, it should be possible to use it properly reasonably soon anyway.

Yorkie has previously posted explicit guidance - don't know how there could be more clarity on this. It makes sense that the TOC will want to discourage this if their staff are unable to read the cards. But that really isn't the passenger's concern

Hmm I edited my post before I posted it and missed out the bit where I said that I agree that it's 100% valid so sorry about that.

But whilst the ticket is valid the only way, I can see, of getting it so that GTR and the likes don't try and deny it is to get taken to court and win there. Otherwise expect to have trouble when travelling on VTEC using The Key!
