what causes the distinctive smell inside a GWR 158 or any 158.153 type train? is it diesel particles that are being breathed in?
For those interested, here is 43194 in its new variation of GWR livery, seen at Swindon this afternoon: https://www.flickr.com/photos/pdeaves/33459610605/in/album-72157666733437443/.
Horay! Cab side numbers have finally returned! Unlike the stupidly placed ones on the first round of Green HST repaints. Is the front in the FGWR/XC style or FGW style?
The GWR logo for 43194 is vinyl and it is cast for 43005, 43041, 43187 and 43188. 43187 and 43188 have dragon decals and there could be 6 adverts:
43027 90 Glorious Years
43126 Bristol 2015
43144 Building A Greater West
43146 Building A Greater West
43163 Visit Plymouth
43172 World War 1 (does anyone have the title)
43198 is being repainted green and will have its name removed as it will be working local duties.
I have no idea where 43126 is but can anyone help?
I was on the Turbo with the new interior yesterday - and I have to agree with its haters - it really is crap. In the section I was sitting in, more than half the seat back cushions had detached from their backrests, the paint is indeed chipping back to FGW lilac, and the green (which isn't the green they've used to paint it) and grey look very... erm... coffee'd?
Edit: Should note that the guard was lovely, and we arrived into Reading 3 minutes early, and in under 30 minutes, compared to the usual 50 (from Guildford).
Just bumped into 194 at pad. The logo (see close-up) has been made to look just like the cast version, right down to the horizontal pinstriping, complete with fake rivets printed on it. Make of that what you will. I'm saying nothing!!![]()
Indeed. What 'local duties' are envisaged for an HST power car?
What 'local duties' are envisaged for an HST power car?
The short "HST GTI" sets that will serve as stoppers, eg. ply to pnz.
Not happening - as discussed elsewhere.
What exactly is "not happening"?
Also see on another forum something mentioned a few months ago about the need for some LHCS (in addition to the short HSTs, to fill in gaps with the LTV unit transfers, and the talk was that Angel were looking at push pull 67s + 442 stock as a possibility. That must have been a wind-up though, surely can't see that ever happening!
How on earth did it manage to shave over 20 minutes off the schedule?
Oh god, finally! I swear each time a 165 goes to Wolverton, the time taken to repaint the set gets longer!
Looks like 165108 has headed off to Wolverton, probably be late April next time we will see it!

It didn't actually stop anywhere between Guildford and Reading, normally there are six stops or so. It's a train a take relatively regularly, and I've never had it miss stops before.
Amend 150202 to New GWR Livery. Arrived back at PM from Doncaster last night. Thanks
Which service is it on?
There is one GWR service a day that does this, the 09:54 from Guildford is non-stop and takes 29 minutes. It runs fast in order to arrive at Reading in good time to form the 10:34 Reading - Gatwick.
GWR have also been known to miss stops between Guildford and Reading to recover the timetable after delays.
