Whats 156471 doing at Arriva Traincare Crewe
Also why are the 2 150s (150137 & 150223) at Wabtec Doncaster?

Are various places doing the refurbishments or are units at various locations for other reasons?

156471 is down as fleet enhancement works don't know what that entails. Possibly disabled toilet etc but not refurb
The 150 duo at Doncaster are just disabled toilet, corrosion work and digital destination displays

Currently on the centre car of 752. Quite impressed with the recushioned seats, nice and firm. The interior decor is nice and bright, though it does seem rather clinical. The painted seat backs look a bit tacky and cheap to me, too.

I was quite impressed with the refresh too, although I'm saving my full judgement for when we're told "this is the finished product".

The only thing which disappoints me is only three units have been refreshed in the past ten months. However, I'm guessing the arrival of some of the new and cascaded trains next year will speed up the fleet refresh process, because in theory there will be more spare units available.

150275 is on its way back to Newton Heath from Kilmarnock this evening.

Sat outside Newton Heath tonight, spotted it as we went past a few minutes ago.

The outside looks very smart, will be interested to see what they've done to the inside.

We need a few more units just for some slack so we can have a rolling program of refurbishments and can afford to have a few units away having the full refurbishment

150275 had been out in service earlier in the day, I believe up to Southport. However it didn't last too long as several fault appeared so ended back on Newton Heath

Just had it again, would be nice to be on longer than BTL - DEW to get a better impression!

Finally managed to grab a ride on 158752 on service 2U30 (Leeds to Manchester Vic) I rode Rochdale to Manchester. The seats are so very comfy and the inside is so very bright. Shame the Train FX system wasn't working with it showing just a blue screen internally.

That livery is growing on me a little just a shame so much white and the 'N' randomly colored and placed look odd... although the overall logo is much better than the previous one

Will GMPTE make its presence felt on Manchester area trains again like the West Midlands PTE plan to? I remember 323s in an orange livey

Any thoughts as to how the white livery could be improved? Perhaps blue at each coach end ?

Regarding the 158s surprised the opportunity wasn't taken to give an EMT style refurbishment that would deal with the overcrowding problems prevalent with these trains

The best way to improve the livery would be to get rid of the multicoloured logos which look like the most "toytown" thing on rails since the Coronation Street tram crash!

As for your last point, the EMT refurbishment of 158s reduced the number of tables which to me would be a backwards step, crowding or not.

I saw the 150275 was out and about yesterday and so I went to cover it on its return from Southport. I caught it from Walkden and got off at Victoria. I must admit that it was very bright inside. However due to people being so offensive and decided that seats are there just for putting their feet on, then the blue fabric on the seats is not really the one to use. Easily shows up the dirt off the shoes etc. However it is now in the book and the red pen was finally required. It been a long time since last April waiting for it to come back.

Onto the 319s. I went past Allerton also yesterday. Yes I know that 218 and 219 are both currently stored but I was surprised that they are outside the depot with the pans up and lights on inside. Or are they being prepared for use soon?

Saw earlier that 319450 has returned to Allerton from Wolverton in a white base & blue doors - the first refurbed to "new Northern" spec ?

Isn't white base and blue doors Thameslink?

Not at Allerton depot it wouldn't be!

... why not? Northern have some Thameslink liveried 319s.

I can't be bothered to look through Google Images to check if 450 is actually one of them, but they've got 424 and that definitely is:

https://farm6.static.flickr.com/5562/30638171316_9d48cfb4d2_b.jpg

I think it recieved its white livery sometime in 2015.

The only Thameslink liveried 319s at Allerton are 319218 and 319219.

Quite. But some of the ones confirmed as being fitted with engines are too.

Only the one - 319450.

Only one, as childwallblues said. 319424/431/434/442/448/456/458 are at Wolverton.

I feel like we have come full circle with this hahah

To be clear: is it in the white Thameslink livery, or is it in a new, Northern livery?

If they wanted to completely shake off the old 'Northern' image, i'm wondering if they should have introduced a completely new colour scheme, with dark blue being firmly banned. Same colours are previously with lots of white isn't bold enough.

A minor point, but the only orange GMPTE stock was the first fourteen class 142 Pacers. The 323s carried the later, Regional Railways era GMPTE 'Executive' scheme of dark grey, white and red which was much more widely applied.

I'm not aware of any desire from TfGM to develop an area specific livery as per the West Midlands Rail scheme.

I can't see there being PTE liveries again in the North now that Rail North has been formed (with the exception of Merseyrail, Tyne & Wear Metro and Metrolink.)

When Southport services were first sent to Piccadilly they continued to Chester via Stockport and it was common to see Merseytravel liveried 150s on the service despite it running a far greater distance in Greater Manchester than Merseyside. Also having trains which looked almost identical to ones which ran via the Mersey tunnels having a destination in Merseyside on the front of them caused a bit of confusion at Chester!

The 142s were the only 2nd generation units that carried GMPTE orange, but not the only units overall- a few 303s were given the orange colour scheme when they were used on Glossop/Hadfield services in the late 1980s and early 1990s. 304s and 305s may have also carried the livery, 305s definitely carried the later GMPTE colours. 504s on the Bury line also carried the orange scheme.

The Merseytravel 142s even found their way to Newcastle and Whitby, while the T&W units could be found on Merseyside and even in North Wales. I can't imagine PTE liveries making a comeback either.

304s didn't get the orange livery. They stayed blue/grey until the end except for 4 sets (I think) that got standard Regional Railways livery late on.

Couldn't quite remember if they did or not, so thanks. Hadn't realised they'd had a few in RR until I saw them on a YouTube clip last week. I was more surprised that they never received gangways between vehicles, unlike the 307s and 308s in Yorkshire. Knew the Bury units never did though.
