That sounds about right. The only thing that baffles me is, the VTEC order for 800's and 801's is for much the same, yet 800101 was delivered in VTEC colours despite being ordered by DfT, exactly like GWR's were... however we had to vinyl ours. Was this because, at the time of delivery, VTEC had no modified depot to do any IEP work in? GWR had North Pole all set up and ready when they got their first IEP...

Hitachi had North Pole all set up, it's their Depot. The units have been delivered to Hitachi not the TOCs, its Hitachi Techs who will be maintaining them, Hitachi (will) even have their own controllers in the ICC at Swindon. The only thing GWR about them will be the livery and train crew operating them.

Stoke Gifford & Swansea will be staffed by Hitachi, nothing to do with GWR.

North Pole was a very convenient stop gap to home the first 387s.
800004 was vinyled up and named for a special event, that may or may not be the final livery or names carried.

Looks like the Class 143s of all things are to go green, with three units getting promotional liveries for each of the lines they operate on (Riviera Line, Avocet Line, Tarka Line), one getting a 'Visit Exeter' livery, and at least one getting a hybrid livery, with some wrapping paper being torn to reveal the GWR branding.

I used refurbed 150246 for the first time today. All seemed good! It was working in multiple with 150108. They're really getting through the 150/2 refurbs now. Only 150221, 150239, 150243, 150244, 150249, 150265 and 150266 now remain in 'local lines' livery. It will be a sad day for me when the last one is repainted - the end of an era.

Nice to see some of the class 143s will get a repaint. I quite like the proposed 'Avocet/Tarka/Riviera line' livery. Has anyone done a computer mock up of what a 143 would look like with a full GWR reprint, like the 150s and 158s are having?

I really do wish they would take the FGW branding off of the units they are not planning to repaint soon. It really wouldnt take much to put some form of temporay GWR branding vinyls on or something. The likes of Transdev and even First Bristol seem to manage it on their buses.

That said, I am very impressed with the refurbs on the whole. My only other critisism being the new padding on the 158 seats, although hopefully that will soften given time

On my way to London i happened to come across 2x387s stabled at West Ealing. Is there any particular reason why they are stabled here? Unfortunately one of them has also been a victim of graffiti. The horrible mongrels just can't help themselves.

I'm actually rather disappointed about the internal state of the Turbo fleet now. None of them feel loved or cared for, even the solitary GWR one feels tired and is starting to look scruffy already. It's the stuff as you say, plus the dirt trodden carpets, small tables missing or ripped off, side material ripped / falling off / missing altogether, tired looking seats but what really takes it are the frankly disgusting looking heaters visible below the seats - some appear to be that clogged with dirt and dust that it's no-wonder they're hardly working.

I think the dirty floors aren't a new thing. I started using the 165s on a vaguely regular basis (a few times a month!) in 2014, and even back then I remember the flooring under the seats and around the seat mountings being caked in dirt, as well as the heating vents.

I travelled on 166205 back home from Reading tonight (166205 has the gWr grey/green interior)

The very obvious staining on the grey seats was worse than the last time I saw this unit. Some had dark pools of marks on them (dark in the middle, less so on the outside) and I hesitate to speculate what would cause such staining. Others have become victims of coffee spillages and the combination of grey and brown is more than a bit eek! to look at

Much as like the colour scheme, and I do, it's not fit for purpose on heavily used trains.

Come to think of it, those 387s should yield an interesting challenge - whose interior issues will give way first? Will the issues plaguing the GWR rebrand show up in the Electrostars, or will the curse of the Bombardier strike first?

Incidentally I know what you mean about the interior of the 166 - I had the (Mid)fortune of catching the gWr HST set the other day and the interior in that continues to look a shambles. Nearly every other seat had similar stains on it, nearly every seat back was still lose and badly fitted, carpets were fraying and the side panels looking very dirty.

And that's without mentioning the pretty disgusting in my opinion leather headrests.

The irony being that the Dynamic Lines HST I had on return last night looked newer and smarter than the actually newer GW finished one!

Sadly I can't say I remain that impressed by the newer version either. It's biggest problem - apart from Quality control as I've even found seats with the newer moquette fraying already, is it's general appearance vs cleanliness. The biggest enemy being the likes of coffee cups and dirty shoes. Light grey is not the greatest material to use for flooring of any train - as the TSGN area is also finding out, and it only takes one or two left over half empty coffee cups to spill it's contents over the floors and it soon becomes a sticky, dirty looking mess. Also, I'm not sure what paint seems to be being used in the interior refurbs, but on 001 it seems to be very susceptible to being scratched and worn.

It's a shame because on paper, the rebrand could be a smart move. But in my opinion it has a lot to live up to with the bar set quite highly by the overall quality of the Dynamic Lines refurbishment. And I'm still not a fan of the overuse of Grey, Grey, Grey and Brown.

One was cleaned last week with a few remaining tag marks if you knew where to look. However this weekend two more units have been badly sprayed with graffiti :roll:

I agree that they sound disjointed, they've also added announcements between Maidenhead and West Drayton to warn you of the overhead wires at every station!
