The heady Thames Trains days when half the fleet stopped during the off peak are long gone.

And not at all heady as a passenger. Yes, the Turbos are looking a bit worn - though to be honest I don't really care between "worn uncomfortable" and "pristine uncomfortable", 3+2 seating sucks no matter what the maintenance regime - but the more frequent service and general approach to customer care is so much better under (F)GWR than it ever was with Thames.

Was on a 165 going to Reading at 7pm, and I do have to agree they are attrocious. Sat in ex-first compartment with the little tables. Only lightly nudged the table and it just dropped off. I really do not understand how hard can it be for these tables to function as, well... tables? They're either not there at all with an ugly missing mounting, or it is there, but looks very awful. Sometimes in my case it falls off as soon as you sit down.

Honest Officer, I barely nudged it and the whole thing just fell apart

25 years of Vandals snapping them off, using them as foot rests has taken its toll.

As for why they're not quickly replaced I understand it's not an easy job, requiring removal of wall panelling to get at the mounting bolts (if our Reading TCD correspondent wishes to correct me please do!), and with the LTV fleet being pushed so hard at the moment, cosmetic concerns have to play second fiddle to fixing safety-critical defects, fuelling and basic servicing of the units. Fixing things not my side of the house but wouldn't surprise me, if it's one thing I've learnt, it's when told a timescale for a job to be completed, double it :roll: but you have pretty much nailed it with your comment above.

It wasn't that long ago that the first class sections were declassified though? And I wouldn't have thought the "first class" gent would be partial to a bit of vandalism!?

As booked, and has been for several years now. Definitely doesn't need anything more than a 3 car Turbo north of Oxford. Down working is 6 car to Oxford, and again more than sufficient.

Yet 165105 which has returned and enterred service already has branding and it's been back a shorter length of time to 104. Is this just a little delay, I mean it's not hugely important so doesn't require off track time when it could be in revenue earning service, but how has this managed to occur?

165104 was booked in for its stickers but due to another turbo disgracing itself at the last minute had to run to preserve the service.

Luckily it was the weekend that 105 returned so as it was there that got stickered up so it wasn't a completely wasted trip for the contractors.

166204 worked the 5V74 14:06 Woverton Centre Sidings - Reading Train Care Depot, just seen it going through Maidenhead East. Also, 800001 is white, 800002 white with one driving vehicle carrying red detailing, 800003 white, 800004 GWR and 800005 white with bird decals.

I'm not sure about the 158s but they have been short recently. Was on a 150/9 doing the Portsmouth - Cardiff run yesterday and have also been on 150249 fairly recently doing Portsmouth - Cardiff.

150261 will go back at somepoint as it doesn't have a DDA compliant toilet or PIS. Not sure about repainting but will probably get left 'til last along with 150202, 150216 and the middle cars used in the 15092x twins, though 150261 has 2+2 seating.

Though the IEP's were meant to be delivered in GWR green (as the 387's have been), Hitachi don't seem to be following that at all (as far as I know, feel free to enlighten me!) 800004 was even delivered in Hitachi white, and vinyled at North Pole depot. If this is how the IEP's will be delivered to GWR is anyone's guess. Though the latest delivery (800003) was delivered in... Hitachi white.

None of the 800s have yet been delivered to the TOCs. AFAIK 800004 and 800101 were only liveried for publicity purposes, and the respective liveries may not be the final ones.

Does anyone know the status of the 'trial' of the interior refurbishment of 166205 (complete with its first class accommodation mix up!)? I had understood that it was being evaluated in service to permit adjustments to be adopted when treating the rest of the fleet and I'm interested to know when others may be turned out.
