Haulage of Riviera Day stock in the peaks anyone? ;)

That'd be nice! Sadly I understand that management were not impressed with it's day trip last time!

Another extra turbo lost for a while. Ouch.

It's going to hurt the LTV Fleet a bit - 1 x 166 in Bristol, 1x 166 in Wolverton, 2 x 165 out of traffic and 150002 in Bristol. Can we have 002 back from the West please? :D

I always thought it was a bit of a mistake to send 002 to the west.

When a 2 car 165 turns up vice a 5/6 car 165/6, It won't be pleasant.

After the arrival of the 387s, the rejigging of the diagrams and the retention of a 180 this released two 166 units hence 166215 was sent West for staff training and 150002 was donated to the West :D . These now no longer figure in the LTV fleet figures.

The Mon-Fri LTV Turbo diagrams allow for 6 units (1x 2car & 5x 3car which includes the 150s) a day to be stopped for maintenance. It will be this 'stop list' which absorbs the three absent units:
165124 (1 half at Derby for repair, 1 half at St Phillips Marsh for training)
165106 Wolverton for C6 work
166204 Wolverton for repairs.

We will keep 002 thanks. Belongs in the west with sprinter brethren

You're more than welcome to it :D:D:lol:

What happened to 002 that required its most recent trip up north? I thought I saw something about an engine pop somewhere but couldn't find it again.

Think I felt the wrath of the lack of turbo's this morning, when 0836 MAI - PAD (2P28) was cancelled due to 5B24 failing at the depot (something about an oil leak blocking the exit road). So had to wait 30 minutes just for a PAD train (2P32) and when that turned up, it was only 3 coaches, which quickly got packed as it was full of the original passengers for 2P28. Also it had a lack of heating, which I've learnt to get used to with turbo's but when it's about a degree outside... Brrrr.

*UPDATE* And now I've just found out that despite being advertised as cancelled, 2P28 did run... just very late... http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C26774/2017/01/22/advanced

That's not down to this perceived lack of Turbos (there isn't a shortage!). From what you've said above and looking at this mornings departures off depot, a unit has failed at departure time (always the very front unit <D ) and blocked in several other departures. At that time of day on a Sunday there won't be that many Manouverers on duty (probably only one) to be able to reshunt the trapped units onto an available departure road. (there were a couple of sidings included in an engineering possession as well overnight.)

The 166s aren't too bad, but I agree the 165s can be quite cold.

I've also noticed that the internal state of the units has declined over the past year (165s especially).
For example there is peeling paint on the inside of the doors; the windows are etched, the side panelling I dented and some bits are falling off and the upholstery is getting quite threadbare now (even on repainted ones), I won't mention the state of the toilets!
Perhaps these issues could be rectified now that Reading has plenty of spare units

Every time I do a Sunday shift and there's trains at Burnham, there's always a problem. 2P28 was the 08:40 departure, next one was 09:40. Luckily I managed to get control to stop 2P32 additionally. So I apologise for the additional overcrowding on it :D

I'm actually rather disappointed about the internal state of the Turbo fleet now. None of them feel loved or cared for, even the solitary GWR one feels tired and is starting to look scruffy already. It's the stuff as you say, plus the dirt trodden carpets, small tables missing or ripped off, side material ripped / falling off / missing altogether, tired looking seats but what really takes it are the frankly disgusting looking heaters visible below the seats - some appear to be that clogged with dirt and dust that it's no-wonder they're hardly working.

Actually, I hate to say it but I've started to notice a real decline in train presentation standards at GWR over the past few months including the in-refreshed HST set I had last night and a 180 I had last week where the vestibule panel where being held on by gaffer tape - A Far Far cry from the very smart, Dynamic Lines image FGW Presented only 8 years ago.

Time to put in another complaint I'm afraid. It's almost like they're banking on how great and wonderful this GWR scheme will make us feel, while trying to run the FGW image into the ground.

 Plenty of spare units!

Its very rare these days there is even one spare turbo let alone plenty!

The odd occasion a nights servicing and maintenance tasks have left us a spare, it usually doesn't last long before it's purloined by LTV Control.

Then why did you send the two units west?

See post #1631 - we have two less diagrams to cover. A turbo had to go West for training and getting rid of 150002 was an added bonus.:D

My post about the spare units could have been made anytime, certainly in the last 4 years I've been there, we always have a rather full stop list!

Do you mean 166205? I think the GWR green livery and interior decor looks smart and infinitely preferable to the gaudy, tacky purple and pink one. Degradation of interiors etc., is not a function of the colours or livery, but simply of the maintenance regime.

It will be interesting to see when the rest of the 166 fleet will be refurbished internally, taking account of the issues raised as a result of assessing 166205 in service. Perhaps they could get the first class designation right on those units! However, they'll probably be gone from my line (NDL) by then!

What does fleet deployment have to do with bean counters? It's up to fleet when units are moved.

Perhaps Bean Counters not relevant in this case, this is often when DFT are allocating stock. Purely within GWR and their Fleet team.

Was on a 165 going to Reading at 7pm, and I do have to agree they are attrocious. Sat in ex-first compartment with the little tables. Only lightly nudged the table and it just dropped off. I really do not understand how hard can it be for these tables to function as, well... tables? They're either not there at all with an ugly missing mounting, or it is there, but looks very awful. Sometimes in my case it falls off as soon as you sit down.

25 years of Vandals snapping them off, using them as foot rests has taken its toll.

As for why they're not quickly replaced I understand it's not an easy job, requiring removal of wall panelling to get at the mounting bolts (if our Reading TCD correspondent wishes to correct me please do!), and with the LTV fleet being pushed so hard at the moment, cosmetic concerns have to play second fiddle to fixing safety-critical defects, fuelling and basic servicing of the units. The heady Thames Trains days when half the fleet stopped during the off peak are long gone.

It wasn't that long ago that the first class sections were declassified though? And I wouldn't have thought the "first class" gent would be partial to a bit of vandalism!?

I'm not sure Vandals particularly care whether they're damaging a first or standard class service. Don't forget these have spent the vast majority of their working lives operating DOO services.

Good point I guess. I must say I've been quite surprised, almost every turbo I get on with a declass has 1 or more of those tables missing. At first I thought it had been done as part of the declass process!
