There are also plans for new stations at William Wallace Hill and Bonnie Prince Charleston.

That prompts the idea for a game: places (in the UK?) which because of their name really ought to have a station - even if there isn't a convenient rail line nearby...
For a start, how about Brunel (for the University in Uxbridge)

but it doesn't provide much more inspiration (other than reminding us of Telford)... Perhaps we should have a new station called Vulcan Foundry for the housing being built at Newton-le-Willows.

Drummond Hill and Drummond Castle are both about as far as you can get from a railway line, and there's a Pickersgill Manor north of Silsden near Skipton, but nowhere that I have found with Bullieid or Gooch in the name. Lots of places called Thornton however.

Robroyston has been approved for 50% funding from Scottish Stations Fund:

Funding boost for proposed station at Robroyston

The new station proposals, which include a park & ride car park, are designed to provide local residents with a sustainable travel option, as well as catering for additional future demand from the 1,600 new households planned for the Robroyston area.

The Scottish Government has committed to meet 50% of the station`s currently estimated construction costs – over £7 million – through the Scottish Stations Fund. The remainder is expected to be met by the scheme promoters Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), Glasgow City Council, and private developers.

This investment reaffirms the Scottish Government’s commitment to investing in Scotland`s railways, ensuring that more people are able to access the rail network.

Minister for Transport, Humza Yousaf said: “I am very pleased to announce this substantial funding package for a new station for Robroyston.

“This is a significant announcement, with Robroyston the first new station project to be funded by the Scottish Stations Fund, which was introduced to improve and increase access to rail across Scotland.

“This announcement highlights the Scottish Government`s continued investment in rail infrastructure and services to better connect our communities and support sustainable economic growth and jobs across the country, with £5 billion of funding for infrastructure and services committed to 2019.

“Demand for rail travel continues to boom with over 94 million journeys made on the ScotRail passenger network last year. Today`s announcement demonstrates our commitment to meeting this demand and brings the prospect of a new station for the people of Robroyston one step closer to reality.”

PLANS to build a new railway station in the North-East of the city are expected to get a £10million boost from the city council.
Around 1600 new homes are in the pipeline for the Robroyston area and on Thursday, councillors will decide whether to provide cash to allow a new station to be built.
The £10m council cash will be repaid with developers paying the local authority £11,000 per house on completion of each block of 20 houses.
A report to councillors says building the new station will "significantly" speed up house building at Robroyston on both sides of the M80 motorway....

Don't quite know where to put this, but there's a bit in a Cambridge City Council report about developing the case for a Cambridge South/Addenbrookes station here (as linked from the Fen Line Users Association).

Essentially they're figuring out whether a station on the current two tracks (with passive provision for four) could work with current timetables. I think the answer to this is quite simply that it wouldn't - I've always found the southern approach to the city ludicrously congested, so without (the proposed for the future) four tracking from Shepreth Junction onwards a station wouldn't work.

Yeah, I saw that and was reasonably surprised (EDIT: About the lack of timetabling disruption, specifically - everything else is as linked before). Still, if a station can be built reasonably quickly with little disruption to current services, with passive provision for four-tracking, I'm not complaining.

Had a leaflet through the door today about the proposed Warrington West station. It says the project has been revised and delayed due to cost increases and there's a public consultation until March. Unfortunately it doesn't say what the revisions actually are. With the routing changes of transpennine services, I suppose there will be no services past Manchester?
