Which heritage/preserved railway lines have you always intended on visiting but have'nt done for various reasons? For me:

(1) Alderney Railway.
(2) West Somerset Railway
(3) Wensleydale Railway I know its a community line

There are a couple of others but they are my top three...

Nice Selection! If you're coming up to pay us a visit at Wensleydale I would reccomend coming for steam or the diesel gala as the DMU's aren't the most impressive things as far as enthusiasts are concerned. However they serve their purpose and provide a service on what is a community line.

I plan To Visit:

1) Severn Valley Railway
2) Bo'ness
3) Midland Railway Centre
4) West Somerset Railway

Cheers for the advice wensley, I certainly would like to go sometime - I know a couple of people who have been to the Wensleydale Railway and its been highly recomended.

I've always wanted to visit the Alderney railway ever since I saw a review on television a few years back. Seems like a modest line, even though they only have a short running line its seems unique - I mean where else do you see diesel shunters haling ex-tube stock! (I know about the Isle of White.)

As for the WSR - well they have a long running line and a wide variety of rolling stock (both diesel and steam).

Loads I still want to do, but for the sake of time it would take to write them all out (and find them all in my Quails and Baker!), I'll summarise in no order:

1) All Scottish preserved lines (for the track and locos)
2) Spa Valley Railway (for the track and 37254 <D)
3) East Lancs Railway (for the track and locos)

Never done that lot yet due to the time it takes to reach them all and the cost. Nevertheless, I hope to be able to fit in the Spa Valley Railway when I'm on a Southern Region track bash.

There's so many I would like to visit, but the ones that I most want to visit, in no particular order, are:

1) Keighley & Worth Valley Railway
2) North Yorkshire Moors Railway
3) East Lancs Railway
4) South Devon Railway
5) Llangollen Railway

There seems to be quite a bit of interest in the ELR, perhaps someone should organise a forum meet for one of the diesel events? It's one of my favourite lines as it has a nice BR diesel feel to it rather than focussing on steam all the time.

I could do with visiting the Weardale Railway, it's quite close to me but I've never been. The Llangollen also looks good, but that's a bit of a trek from here.

We are certainly quite priviliged in the UK when it comes to heritage railways, so many different lines to choose from, each of varying egnths, rolling stock and each one with its own unique history to boot.

Despite all the negativities surrounding the Beeching axe, it is great to see so many lines being restord and saved.

It's a nice ride on the Weardale, not particularly long but through some stunning scenery. all the staff seem to have a real passion and the service is great with the stock in immaculate condition. I went for a ride behind the class 73 with the day's diagrams being shared with the DMU. The organistation and timing was spot on. I meant to go for a ride with the 31 but have not managed to get over!

Craig: I believe a meet is to be organised for the next NightRider event on the ELR, it was being discussed a while ago.

And I would recommend putting the event in to do the Llangollen, it's well worth it. Get yourself behind 37240 up Berwyn Bank and try disagreeing...<D

Anything up and away from Berwyn is mega, 25313 is utter hell <D

Was. She's not been in the best of health for a few years.... '262 on the other hand!

Llangollen is off the page at the moment though unfortunately until the diesel situation becomes clearer.

Mid Norfolk is the current priority for a winner line, although don't see the need for a 60, 66 and 67 to be visiting but hey ho.

Should get back to Spa Valley (very recommended) when Eridge opens.

The old girl will be getting some loving attention soon, along with the peak. Everythings settled down on the Llangollen regarding the diesels, so now we just need to see some diesel galas and running days punched into the diary. :)

And agree with the 262 comment, utter beast :)

Ah excellent, their diesel events are usually pretty good.

I thought they had decided what they were keeping and were looking at more regular running days at Llangollen next year?

Aye Mid Norfolk should be good in March now we are sorted for the weekend away there, bit too much type 5 for my liking but should be balanced out with some quality EE type 3 & 4 action

Spa Valley is pretty hell, should have there extension open this year so will be popping along again. Think alot of people under-estimate the line, they certainly were not shy of the power handle on the beerexs back in August :p

Of lines i'm looking at doing this year, I think a trip up to the Caley at Brechin may be in order if 37097 gets one of their summer saturday turns.

May not be for you, but the number crunchers and freeloaders (sorry, spelling mistake, should have said photographers) will love 'em, plus it gets the DBS brand out and about which is why the ex-EWS management are supporting galas again all of a sudden. I think we all know what shade of pigment they'll be in...

PS. Wonder if H*ller will turn up for a bellow on the tractor?:lol:

Even then they're not shy of the power handle in general on that line, even on the 33s when multied up, when some lines wouldn't know how (Yes Mad Hants, I DO mean you!)

The Caledonian is a nice railway, I went for the McRats last summer and the one before then, but only because I was visiting my grandparents in Dundee at the time. Although, I did under-estimate the distance from Montrose to Bridge of Dun, turned out to be a 3 mile walk along the main road! (Yes I knew there was a bus from Montrose to Brechin via Bridge of Dun, but because the train from Dundee was delayed by about 10 minutes, I missed the bus )

I remember them saying on PD forum at the end of the summer, that they are probably not going to do summer saturday diesel turns in the 2009 season, because of the small number of visitors who came in the summer of 2008. :( A shame because I enjoyed both visits! On the 2008 visit, I got a cabride in D5301 which was well worth it! :)

According to their website the first four Saturdays in August are all diesel days so hoping it will be out on one of them. Did discuss with a mate of mine about going up in may for the diesel gala but that bank holiday weekend now has a compass 37 tour and another tour i want to do on the Monday.
