going off topic, but I think that's quite interesting - when the first of the Stanley family was made Earl of Derby (1485), the family had no connection at all with Derbyshire, but were from West Derby.
However, it seems that the title was in relation to the county of Derby (the title had previously been held by people who were from Derbyshire, although that title was no longer used by 1485), although the current Earl believes that the title is related to West Derby.
Perhaps he was given a historical title, which happened to match the name of his home.
(The two Derbys were of similar sizes in the Domesday book)
