The class 158 I went on today from Brighton to Fareham was refurbished inside with green firm seats.
There was no Public Information System working onboard and was all conductor announcements.
There was a PIS system on the ceiling but it was blank blue.

Good news! 165104 has finally returned from Wolverton today, arriving back at Reading very late at 1813 with a VSTP path as the release missed the morning path today. However 165105 has stayed at Reading as GWR didn't plan to receive 165104 at such short notice. Wonder why it took so long... will find out soon!

No working wifi on my refurbished one today either.

There was an issue with the allocated GBRF driver (sickness) hence the later departure and VSTP path once cover was sorted.

We were well aware of 165104 coming back and 165105 was all ready to go, why it hasn't gone I don't know, either the driver was out of hours or a set fault, or no available path back to Wolverton. Hopefully tomorrow's handover briefing will shed some light.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
165105 couldn't get to Wolverton. VSTP declined due to a possession somewhere.

Just a quick bit of electrical info - I thought I'd do a quick test on the USB sockets that are mounted on the refurb GWR HST 1st class table tops, using my USB tester. These USB sockets seem to top out at a current of just under 0.5A.

This makes for a very slow charge (or may refuse to charge at all) with most of today's modern smartphones, which typically demand anything up to 2.5A. So my advice for a quicker charge would be to just use your original wall charger instead.
Of course it's fine for charging smaller USB accessories such as mono Kindles, small E-cig chargers etc (no vaping allowed on trains or stations though remember!)

I tried the same table top strips in the refurb Night Riviera seated coach B too, and they are the same 0.5A max. However, the wall mounted ones in the airline seats on it give out 1A, which is a bit better.

166205 still has the first class external and internal identification mixed up and the leather seats have no class identification (such as anti-macassars) at all. With only one window out of the four having a (peeling) '1st class' sticker and with the internal doors locked open, no wonder people are so confused. Not impressive for their 'flagship' refurbishment example!

Aargh - why by road? Does a repaint render the train unable to run on rails?!

Not just a re-paint. C6 Exam and PRM Mods.
That is how Wolverton return their trains so as they arrive back home untouched. Others, such as Wabtec, Doncaster despatch them by rail.

Not always they don't, ive seen plenty of 16xs heading through Milton Keynes back to Chiltern/GWR after their refurbs. Could be the awkward routing from there to the South West with either having to go down pretty much to London to access the GWML or possibly upto Birmingham and down through Cheltenham. Neither particularly ideal for a 75mph max unit and probably overnight running massively restricted by engineering works down the mainlines.

Perhaps I'll let another member who may be more conversant with the procedure to explain further in order to suitably respond to Deepgreen.

You know what, I've been pondering that word "anti-macassar" for a while now, it's one of those words you wonder why it's used. And it just happens today while watching part 2 of a TV series called full steam ahead, they spoke of macassar oil, which gents back in the 19th century used to style their hair with. An oil which would also stain fabric, such as the seat backs. And then the penny dropped! ;)

It is currently on it's way to Cardiff Central. On it after getting on at 09:50 at Worle. It looks good and it still smells new.

It definitely ran back today and should be sat in Reading Depot. I saw it screaming past Oxford this lunchtime. How long it'll last before bursting again we shall see.

I came past just after it arrived and I assume it was 150002, the driver was getting out as I passed.

What burst on it out of interest?

158957 has been split, with one coach from it, and one coach of 158954 forming a horrible livery mis-matched two car unit.

Not sure what the other four coaches are doing.

There have been pictures cropping up of a 158 coach in GWR livery coupled to a 158 coach in FGW livery. I believe that the GWR coach is from 957. What are the coach numbers of each coach and what are they doing together?
