Very nearly got sold a ticket to the wrong one not so long ago when buying a ticket at Darlington station. As I was aiming to travel to the West Yorkshire station of Apperley Bridge I was clued in once the ticket office clerk asked if I wanted an Any Permitted or Not Via Preston!

A thing which struck me on a recent visit to the Exeter area: same-name stations / halts which missed by some seventy years, the chance of being confused with each other rail-travel-wise -- Newcourt on the Exeter -- Exmouth line, and Newcourt on the 3ft gauge Schull & Skibbereen line in County Cork.
