Trains that rarely reach their top speed

I was thinking about trains that don't often operate services or run on routes that permit their designed top speed. The most obvious one I can think of are the 43's and 222 on the MML. Both of which capable of 125mph but don't normally exceed 110mph. A pacer/150 could be on the Valleys in Wales for days on end, do they get to 75mph at all?

Any more thoughts welcome.

I was under the impression that enhancement works on the MML have allowed 125mph running on certain sections.

The MML has 125mph sections, though.

The ATW loco-hauled sets can reach 125mph (actually not 100% sure the DVT might be 110 only), but doubt they ever do.

AFAIK, the MML was recently upgraded to 125 in parts, so the 22s and 43s belonging to EMT are now being put through their paces!

I doubt that a Class 67 has ever reached 125mph :D

The 333's and 321's in West Yorkshire (inc. Doncaster-Leeds line), all 100mph capable but quickest line speed iirc is 90mph

The Electric lines out of Liverpool Street have a maximum speed of 70mph - the 315s that go down it have a max speed of 75mph.

Greater Anglia's fleet of Class 90s also never reach 110mph - the max speed on the GEML is 100.

170s used to just about reach 100 mph (eventually) between Crewe & Stafford when they were used on CT Liverpool - Birmingham - East Anglia aervices.

They reach 100mph all the time between Glasgow and Edinburgh via Falkirk High.

Wrong! 67023 was tested at 125mph not long after delivery using a short set of Mark 3s hired from Virgin.

Okay, I doubt that it's ever been reached outside of testing.

The maximum speeds on the Merseyrail network are 60 mph on the Northern Line and 70 on the Wirral line. Either way those 507/8s are not reaching their 75 mph maximum.

Class 172s on London Midland - cant imagine they get anywhere near top speed in passenger service with the frequent stopping!

Especially considering that their gearing makes them take over 6.5 mins to reach 100 mph, according to the Porterbrook PDF Brochure.

I have been on one doing 98 mph on the Birmingham - Solihull -Stratford Upon Avon semi-fasts. These are booked non-stop between Dorridge & Stratford Parkway.
