I was on 166205 again this morning. It still carries its (admittedly almost useless) silver first class stripe at both ends of the unit in error - I assume we can expect this simple task to remain uncorrected for years to come? The same goes for the units which are carrying green livery, but with no decals, etc? No doubt all will be overlooked because no-one is supposed to review each unit's livery once it has been at least partly applied.

Details, I know, but it shouldn't be so hard to get a new livery right, given the huge publicity arranged for the re-branding.

Is the unit with the bicycle / luggage arrow pointing the wrong way still going around?

I haven't noticed that particular one (I always use the driving cars), but almost certainly - as I mentioned, I can't imagine anyone at GWR notices these things once the livery colour has been changed. Their (and many other TOCs') attention to detail is very lacking!

Without meaning to be unsufferably pedantic, is the Swallow on 185 definitely cast? I thought it was simply printed onto the vinyls. I'd be rather pleased if I was wrong on that one though!

I seem to recall the First Class internal doors in that unit are broken too, something to do with air. I know a lot of passengers believe that on the North Downs if the doors are opened it means the area is declassified, so I imagine it is frequently abused despite the obvious FC leather seats!

I think you'll find it's 'insufferably' pedantic'. I should know!

I seem to recall the First Class internal doors in that unit are broken too, something to do with air and that familiar defect book refrain, "known issue". I know a lot of passengers believe that on the North Downs if the doors are opened it means the area is declassified, so I imagine it is frequently abused despite the obvious FC leather seats!

I frequently wonder how much the passengers on the line actually know about the first class on the route - for a year now only the Gatwick (semi-fasts) have carried first, but a lot of passengers still avoid the accommodation on the stoppers, while some others sit there, but would appear to be standard class ticket holders (i.e. students, etc.). I can't imagine the latter know that first is declassified so they must be chancing it (or completely unaware of their surroundings). In all, it's a muddle, and FGW/GWR have done absolutely nothing to publicise the change except for the removal of the tiny header '1' in the timetable, which I am certain almost nobody notices.

BTW, many units have failed internal doors, failed air-conditioning and failed scrolling information screens inside and out. At least now that the hot weather is over I won't have to use my 'J' key on the hopper windows to achieve a reasonable temperature for a few months!

Yes, can confirm they are real, I drove her the other day and got a nice mirror image off the swallow as I walked past. ;)

The Swallows on 185 are both cast. And original, I believe.

Despite that livery being around for nearly a year now, and having used rolling stock in that livery several times, That silver stripe still really does bug me. I wish they hadn't taken the 'Let's make it look modern and trendy and dispose of the yellow line look'. Aside from the 1s low down on the doors, it's almost barely noticeable in this phot by Martin Loader of the Mk3s and that's taken from above.

I noticed that too, I was on a green turbo last night. What I also don't understand is why as part of the declassification they thought it'd be alright to rip the drinks trays off the walls, leaving an unsightly mess!

Chiltern retained theirs and installed new ones with the seats, shame it seems that the Thames Valley commuters can't seem to keep theirs on the walls!

I was under the impression it was done during declassification seeing as every unit I've been in is like it?

I'm not so sure about the recent units, although I have a feeling they were still there over summer, but appear to have been almost ripped out on some units recently - last week's turbo trip to reading had theirs missing. The original round of removal came during the FGW 'Dynamic Lines' refurbishment, where all the remaining ones from the standard class saloons were removed, if they hadn't been removed already.

Chiltern seemed to specify new ones when they installed the new seats in standard, as well as retaining the original NSE installed ones (but repainted).

I was on 150248 +153 a few days ago operating between Barnstaple and Exmouth and, as previously mentioned, the PIS ignored everything apart from when approaching Eggesford (but didn't work properly because only the local door was opened), apart from Newton St Cyres? Which we didn't even stop at. So bizarre.

Also, the Ruth safety announcement played too when leaving Morchard Road which was odd, seeing as the guard operated the doors from '248. Did they fail to remove it after the refurb? To my knowledge the 153s do not have it. I've not heard the old safety announcement play on any unit when coupled to a refurbed unit with PIS before.
