Your source for this is??

Does anyone actually need sources to quote what common speculation is? Okay, I don't have one. But I am basing this from the fact that EVERY GWR repainted 166 has returned from Wolverton with a number location change (apart from the FGW ones). So if they were to do this on the 165's, it would be illogical NOT to do them at Wolverton just like the 166's. And they haven't.... so.... My best bet is they stay where they are. And if I'm wrong, well at least I have admitted its speculation.

In the future you could just add 'I think...' so it's more obvious that you are speculating

The 165's won't receive a new numbering placement unlike the 166's, they will stay in their present position.

To me that sounds like a fact you actually know or have been told on good authority not just pure speculation!

The vast majority if not all the 166s were just repainted at Wolverton, all the GWR decal fitment and number relocations have been carried out at Reading TCD by external contractors.

I have no idea why 165101 still has its 'old' numbers, it may just be that the contractors ran out of time but I will endeavour to find out if there is any reason behind it when I'm back in work next week.

So your initial post was pure speculation - but you only say this after this 'statement of fact' style post was queried - and then you say something that is just plain wrong.

Here are pictures of 166205 and 166213 on their way back from Wolverton with the old-style numbers still firmly in place under the cab window. As FGW_DID says, all the new GWR markings and numbers are being applied at Reading depot, not Wolverton.

With regards to vinyling a full HST set in a retro livery, I don't see how it would be too much trouble to slightly modify the livery so that it is as close to the original as possible while still having DDA-compliant contrasting doors. On blue/gray livery they could be a Chilternesque dark silver easily enough without looking too out of place, and on IC Swallow they could be red.

That could work, but the "traditionalist" spotters/enthusiasts would then kick up one helluva fuss! GWR may not want to spend ching on repainting an entire rake either; the railways aren't exactly a liberal industry.

Oh I agree there are other stumbling points, I'm just offering up an alternative for one of them!

I'm sure the traditionalists are apoplectic about the small GWR logo on 43002 mind....

43002 no longer has the GWR stickers on the rear windows. 43185 does though.

Thanks,
Ross

150233 and 150248 are both green and running around in their normal formations again. Both have green interiors.

I believe 150263 is at Wolverton now.

It looks terrible? Echoes rather the parent company's erstwhile fad of sticking big pink Fs near enough indiscriminately on everything.

The Sandhurst glass waiting shelter of all places, for example... I always wondered why they chose to put a sticker on it. The sticker isn't even straight and is very faded.

Also the station doors at Swindon (and many more) I believe have the FirstGroup logo on them.

Today (28 September) 165101 was fully liveried, but with the nose end numbers in the old place.

The GWR MD said today that the 165s will look like the 166s, they just need to 'catch up' on getting the new logo/number stickers.

It did at 20 September (see https://www.flickr.com/photos/pdeaves/29193682663/). When/why were they removed?

My son photographed 43002 today (5 October) and has just shown me the GWR sticker in the window. Perhaps because it's black on (effectively) a black background it was overlooked?

I think the answer to the mystery is that it appears to be on one side only. I've just seen photos of it yesterday without it on, but others have seen it today - and photographed it from the opposite side. Correct me if I'm wrong but this looks like said reason.

The most tasteless application I saw was one slapped on 101685 "Daisy" in BR green livery. Fortunately someone later removed it.

I always had the feeling people in depots etc were just given a pile of (F) stickers and asked to whack them wherever they saw fit.

I'm not overly convinced that the portrayal of the depot in "Donovan Quick" of the strangely First-like Windmill Transport was all that far from the truth in First North Western days :)

That could be correct. The pictures I've seen/taken may well all be the same side.

Not so much of a livery observervation but the 150 ive just had - 57219 in 150938 is sounding very rough tonight. Do we know anymore about the status of its partner?
