Well done and congratulations.
I couldn't make the 4th April start date. So I'm hoping to start on 9th May but haven't heard anything since my medical.
Assuming they're busy with the April starters first and will be getting round to the May lot shortly.
Did you get a call after your medical to say you'd passed and would be sent an offer? Or did you just get the bundle in the post?

I got a call on Tuesday, email confirmation on Wednesday and physical letter / paperwork on Thursday.

I've been struggling with this for a while so I'll put it out there: I'd like to book leave for the interviews and assessments, but it's not always possible due to the nature of my work. So unless I get loads of notice, or by fluke it's on a day I can get off, I'll most likely have to take a sick day.
How does this sit with TOCs? You're asking for staff to have integrity and trustworthiness yet they're most likely bunking work to be interviewed. Not to mention that my impeccable attendance record at work- 0 days off in nearly 4 years- suddenly develops warning levels of sickness right around reference time...
Maybe I'm overthinking but any advice is appreciated.

London Midland I know from experience will ask in interview about your sickness record. While you probably won't be the first person to bunk a day to attend I wouldn't mention it.

Finally got my call today. Made the verbal offer of the job. Email and forms via post to follow. Handed my notice in at work.
Can't wait to start on 9th May.

It has long been a wish of LM's (and possibly a franchise requirement, I'm not sure) to run the Crewe services half-hourly. The links at Northampton have been increased, it's possible that perhaps they'll be increased again for the extra work - assuming it happens.
Yes I went to Birmingham on the 22nd. I emailed them last Friday and the said they were waiting for the hiring manager to make a decision. Seems a long time following final interviews.
What depo did u opt for? I know there were quite a few on the original application?

Does anyone have any updates? I applied to Shrewsbury depot and I'm wondering if there are any plans to call applicants to assessment. Are there currently, or planned to be, any vacancies here?

When did you apply for Shrewsbury?
I ask because the only recruitment I was aware of for Shrewsbury was much earlier this year. The two positions available have subsequently been filled.

I applied back in January. I'm still in the application submitted stage.
Yeah, those vacancies got filled. There are no more vacancies at Shrewsbury as the depot is over compliment now. Unless someone else announces they're retiring.

Cheers for the info. Is that likely to be anytime soon ? From the rarity of opportunities at Shrewsbury depot, I reckon they're all a settled and happy bunch?
I'm not aware of anyone else considering retirement in the next few years but you never know. To be fair there have been around 8 new Conductors at Shrewsbury over the last 3 years which was unprecedented as they never took on. But yes, nobody is particularly itching to leave as it is a nice depot.

I regularly speak with 3 LM train drivers and they have told me that all positions have been filled and had it confirmed by LM recruitment team that because of this, they won't be taking on in that station for a while...

The recruitment team don't have a clue. Believe me, our HR team are worse than useless. If they told me it was raining I'd stick my head out to have a look.
Judging by the fact that the guys that sign Crewe in my depot keep getting Crewe's diagrams to cover, and the Crewe's supposed to be going half hourly at christmas, I wouldn't bank on it.

As far as I'm aware, depots like Shrewsbury are the sort of place that only take on once in a blue moon. It's a small depot, with supposedly decent work (don't know, don't sign that way) and people that just don't leave. It's what we would call in railway terms, a 'dead mens' shoes' depot.

If you want to broaden your chances, I'd be aiming for one of the bigger depots purely to get a foot in the door - New Street, Northampton, Bletchley, Wolverhampton. Once you're in you can get a transfer back to a depot that's more convenient for you. I originally started at a depot I didn't put as my first choice, but soon transferred to where I wanted to be.
