London Midland Trainee Senior Conductor application process.

Hi All,

New here, but have applied for the position of Trainee Senior Conductor with London Midland, and have my assessment afternoon of Friday.

I was wondering if anyone could advise me more about the process should I be successful at the assessment, such as what happens next (interview/medical etc) and what the timeframe for these processes is?

I'm aware I'm in for a bit of a wait, just wondered how long it might take if I'm successful at each stage.

Itching to get into it, if I'm honest!

My initial application was in October, I believe the closing date was in November.

Yeah, a 54 page booklet with practice questions for the verbal test, ticket selling & checking and concentration tests.

All seems mildly straightforward, but I'm still practicing like crazy!

This could be the clincher and great consideration should be put into this.

Water recently boiled & not still bubbling.
Milk in after the tea bag is removed.
Rotate spoon Clockwise.
& on no account shake the drops off the spoon by tapping it on the side of the instructors bone china cup and chipping it.

The Psychological Profile created from that simple everyday task beats anything that any online consultancy test can create.
If they could get you to do it in a simulator that was shaking vigorously then that should be all they need to know really.

Ha! I only mentioned this as I read a post here where there was a standout candidate at interview but he failed to progress as he wasn't the nicest to other candidates in the mess room.
It was mentioned that the railway is essentially one big family and your professional and personal attitudes count both to staff and customers.

Go in, do your bit, come out again. If you're asked a question, answer it as best you can - don't try to be a smart arse, the guys that interview are usually senior Guards or possibly Conductor Managers themselves. From the moment you enter 102 til the moment you leave, you will be watched. When I went up for one of my assessments, I was having a chat with ever such a nice chap when I was having a fag before I went in - turned out he was one of the high-up managers.

When I did my induction, one of the guys wa soutside banging on about he didn't want to be there long, he wanted to work for Virgin, this was just astepping stone. He was overheard and a stern word was had. The walls of 102 have eyes and ears.

Well done on getting to stage two.

Stage two is the assessment day - three tests including the infamous Group Bourdon. Classroom / exam room environment. On no account must you be late - it will be noted.

LonMid do the tests one day then release everyone - final stage interviews are later on, the week or two later, if you were successful. This is the final stage and is one-to-one fomat. Thought provoking interview.

Plastictaffy makes a super legit point re the star candidate who was a dick. ALWAYS be nice to people as soon as you arrive on site.

But then again, that shouldn't need to be an "intervew pointer" -- its basic human decency. For those who work with motives: the ass you kick today may belong to the behemoth who can - and will - crush you tomorrow.

For the more altruistic amongst us: be nice. We all have our struggles.

I enjoyed my days at 102. The group days we all made friends - straight after the tests myself and a couple others went to the Wellington for drinks and a small knees up, parted ways and hoped we'd all be starting for that recruitment campaign. Good day it was.

Good luck lad - be sure to research the company, its recent achievements, its forward-ambitions eg expansion of staff and services in light of franchise extension, as well as the history of the company.

Once in there, stay calm, and relax. You'll be okay.

Well, I think it went OK overall.

The hour I was in there flew by, and I think I answered all the questions honestly and enthusiastically.

Just the nervous wait to see if I've done enough now.

I had an email 5 days ago saying I passed the initial sift and was added to their pipeline.
You could try and contact them.

Hi All,

I applied to a senior train conductor role for LM and received a response on 19th Feb telling me that I have past the initial "sift" and have been added to pipeline vancancies in the future for LM. Does this mean that I am no longer being considered for the initial role that I applied for?

Been trough this process before, 3 tests as previously mentioned then an interview with 2 conductor managers. Make sure you practise for the tests and concentrate on quality not quantity of answers.

In the interview just continually bang on about safety and customer service. That's all the role essentially is so if you can put into every answer you give safety is the number one priority and also you love dealing with customers and being helpful then your answers will score highly and you will be successful.

Seems I have passed initial sift and am in the pipeline.
Currently looking at the Bourdon test from here as a familiarisation exercise and working through answers to hypothetical interview questions while I walk the dog!
I think she knows more about my work history and ambitions than I do now!

Does anyone know how many vacancies are available across the depots and likely starting/training dates please?
