Broken down train at Liverpool Street 9/9/16

I was on the 1955 Liverpool Street to Southend service earlier this evening. Shortly before departure time the driver announced that a train had broken down and was blocking our route out of the station. As I was only going to Stratford I nipped over and caught the 2000 TFL Rail service instead. As we left, we passed a stationary Class 90 set sat immediately outside the station. Do any of our Anglia gurus know if this was the offending train and how the situation was resolved?

On arrival at Stratford I saw an up Intercity service pass through. If necessary, would it have been possible for that to buffer up to the failed train and push it back into Liverpool Street? I suspect this wouldn't be allowed as there were passengers on both trains and it would also have involved the assisting train subsequently reversing out of the station in order to enter its own platform. Nonetheless I'm curious as to what actually happened as the nearest assisting loco that could couple up to the 90 or DVT was probably a considerable distance away.

I was also curious about the announcement asking any available BTP officers to come to platform 18 at Liverpool Street where their assistance was required around the same time. There was no train in 18 and nobody visible on the platform. Is there something behind the scenes on 18 or is that a code for somewhere else?

Ps. Just seen that the 1930, 2000 and 2030 down Norwich trains are all cancelled so it appears to be ongoing.

Was an horrendous evening for down Norwich IC trains. 17:00 cancelled due to staff assault on the inward working. 17:50 cancelled due to passenger with heart attack. 18:10 terminated Shenfield with TPWS fault on DVT (same as yesterday) then 18:30 suffered TM issues. 19:00 was one coach short & no buffet crew (heaviest loaded train as first off peak) then 90005/82112 came to a stand shortly after departure with the 19:30 as de-configured. None of this helped by 17:30up turned at Shenfield to rescue the hapless passengers off the 18:10. That caused the cancellation of the 20:00 & then a special 20:10down was formed off the stock inbound with the 18:00up thus cancelling the 20:30 due to the sheer volume of passengers at Liverpool Street.

Looks like I picked a good day to be nowhere near the GEML, a catalogue of disaster. Hope the assaulted staff member and the heart attack victim are OK.

Good to hear it was quickly sorted. Happened to me on a Brussels-Cologne ICE at Aachen. All my connections flew out of the window then suddenly re-booted

I saw no sign of the 17.00 to Norwich last night. I was thinking of the rhyme that I composed as this has happened fairly regularly.

When I got there,

Platform 12 was bare.

There was an incident when a Class 315 broke down outside of the station, blocking four platforms. I was on a 12 carriage train in the 1st carriage. My train left Liverpool Street and stopped shortly afterwards lining up next to the broken down train. A member of staff going to examine/fix the train stepped out from one drivers cab into another.

Operationally it should be the right one to cancel because of the 12 car Class 321s (bins). Politically whether its the right one to cancel thats another matter.

You must be a youngster. Dusty Bin was a character on the 80s game show 3-2-1. It was pretty rubbish really & hugely complicated at the end. So much so that my Nan & Grandad dozed off & I never got it.

Was almost caught out as were other waiting passengers, to see the 10:00 from Liv St arrive at Colchester on Saturday rolling into the platform at 10:42 and 30 secs a good 3.5 early! Obviously had a good run with the 09:38 Colchester Tn keeping out of its way. It shows what can be done with the existing stock. Be very interesting to see what can be achieved when all the fleet is all replaced.

I was the quoted 1955 driver!!! Eventually(!) the driver changed ends and bought it back in to the Street. I left shortly after so don't know what the problem was or how it was resolved.

I was being kept informed by a very helpful East Side Signaller, which enabled me to pass on that info. So parts of the system failed, but other parts worked. SNAFU!!
