CAN I CALL A HALT

Normally, when we leave the North Midland Railway to access the line of the Lancashire Derbyshire and East Coast Railway, we normally do so when we have passed Woodhouse Mill.

However, it appears that both Beighton and Killamarsh West have been posted after Woodhouse Mill, so can I ask at what point will the line be left from there in order to access the line of the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway.

I have been working on that and if we are going to avoid a setback, the only way I can see is by taking what looks like a siding connection at Sheepbridge to the GCR Chesterfield Loop, then reversing at Heath to gain access to the LD&ECR at Arkwright Junction.

Having looked on Wikipedia, the connection to the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway is at Beighton Junction, therefore the next closed station is

Upperthorpe and Killamarsh

This one is usually looked at as being a goods station called Clipstone goods station and is the first goods station that was an untimetabled stop for workmen, so the quiz rules have no section which cover this type of situation. As far as I am aware, this is the first time this matter has been broached on this particular line.

I am sure that we have encountered stations at collieries in the past on this quiz. Two in particular have been on recent journeys:-

Allhallows Colliery.....On the Bolton loop line of the Maryport and Carlisle Railway

Ammanford Colliery Halt.....On the Pantyffynnon to Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen Branch Line

I think it will be advisable in case it is ever referred to in the future. It was mainly because of being a goods station.
