I quite like watching the old doctor who serials
I know they aren't films but most of the DVDs are over 90 minutes long

My favourite film would be unstoppable and probably Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva

Without wishing to be rude you are the only person I have spoken to who has had a good word to say for that film. Without fail they have said it is an awful film and that 2 stars is generous!

I really didn't like it and it cost a small fortune to watch in the cinema.

Chicken Run,

Brilliant film very funny but emotional in places. A bit Americanized but still great. The two rats (Mick and Fletcher) are great 5*****

I also love this film. It's got a great British cast and it's very funny. But then Aardman are brilliant! As well as Wallace and Gromit, there's this and the brilliant Shaun the Sheep Movie.

Lucy - Scarlett Johansson in a fairly standard sci-fi thriller; probably more style than substance but the style is Luc Besson (Leon, Angel A, The Fifth Element) so it's eminently watchable. - 6.5/10

Captain Scarlet vs the Mysterons

Although a re-edit of the old tv episodes but with a new ending, it still does not take away from the impressive attack sequence on Cloudbase where the Mysterons slowly destroy Cloudbase ship after ship. After everybody else is killed and the base is on fire and plunging down with heavy damage, Colonel White and Captain Blue are at White's desk and White tells Blue to put on a power jet pack and abandon cloudbase - which he can't do because of a broken arm. After using Captain Blue's first name for the first and only time, White then gives the most emotional line from a puppet in the history of puppet creations.

"This is Colonel White to Spectrum Headquarters, London. Cloudbase is severely damaged and out of control. We will crash in approximately one minute... I intend to go down with my command... Out" and then stands at attention and salutes as the base goes down.

Donald Gray, White's voice artist, put so much emotion into that it is unbelievable

Woah! 11 out of 10, I liked the series but I'll have to look out for that.

Star Trek 7: Generations I saw and loved again 5/5.
But I also watched To Trap a Spy, it was good, but not as much as the other 2 Man From U.N.C.L.E. films I've seen. 3.5/5.

It Came From Beneath The Sea I am watching this minute. Looks very promising so far :) with giant octopus attacks!

What have the Romans ever done for us?

Well there's The Life of Brian - need I say more? 8.5/10 (Always look on the bright side of life)

Not the most recent film I've watched by a long way, but Some like it hot has to be amongst the best ever.

Several good steam rail snippets, and the last Marilyn number has to be one of the most erotic ever! (I wanna be loved by you)

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy!

Great film that, it should be compulsory viewing in every religious building.

Bringing up Baby. Real laugh loud out Hollywood screwball comedy at it's best. I've just (Sunday) been to the cinema in Truro to see the BFG. Smashing film for kids.

War Dogs (2016)
( out soon)
True story about two 20 year olds who end up supplying arms to the US army. A bit disjointed but nevertheless entertaining.

Nerve (2016) out now.
Emma Roberts is reluctant at first to take part in an online truth or dare game, played in real life without the truth part, but with monetary reward for completion. A bit unnerving to watch as the dares increase in severity.

I very much doubt that! Although it was, scandalously, over looked by the academy

Prometheus - Absolutely atrocious 2.0/10

I couldn't work out if it was very good or very bad! I think it will only work if it is part of a wider series that offers more context to the story

It is a kids puppet show albeit a good one. I do think some of you need to watch a more varied base of films!

The character thought he was going to die and decided to go down with his command - you should watch the clip yourself

Well said, though I suspect your excellent advice will fall on deaf ears.

Tracey Beaker: The Movie of Me

Great story where she finally gets to see her mother but finds out that she is not as great as she once thought

Ender's Game is about an Earth which was attacked by aliens in the past and extensive training and simulations have been given to cadets in the war, now Earth is on the final assault against the alien homeworld, big big surprise at the end! But a little slow going before that.

My last film was Nuns on the Run, bank robbers betray their gang and try to escape with the money but end up disguised as nuns.
Not a bad film at all, very funny and not as silly as it sounds. 4/5

Toy Story 3 (8/10)

Toy Story 3 is a good film. I think that the Toy Story films are so popular because they have a wide and unique cast - in the 3rd film, this is added to when Barbie meets a Ken doll (voiced by Michael Keaton of all people), and the toys generally meet a whole raft of new characters including an evil strawberry-scented bear (voiced by Ned Beatty) and a thespian lederhosen-wearing hedgehog (voiced by Timothy Dalton). You couldn't make it up.

The film is a sort-of-spoof of the whole prison breakout genre when the toys get stuck in a daycare (ruled over by the bear). But it does have other merits, in particular one amazingly well-done scene (I don't recommend watching if you intend to watch the movie and haven't done yet, but it can be found here).

Star Trek Beyond: 7/10

A good film, better than into Darkness, but not as good as the first.
The storyline is good but, not as gripping as the first film

The space station looks a bit big for a deep space station, (I thought they were a small outpost, not a huge city!)

Yeah, its decent, a bit of a twist at the end. Read the book years ago but still found the film entertaining knowing what the twist was. (Maybe twist isn't quite the right word, anyway).

Three to catch up on:

The Dark Knight Rises - I really liked it. Very dark and reminds me (as mad as this will sound) of the Godfather part II, Tom hardy is good and there is a distinct undertone of a clash of political systems and views

I am Legend - Basically a zombie v survivor film that asks some interesting questions about the collapse of society and survival but after about an hour it sees to fall away, the zombies aren't frightening and the ending is poor. There is a better ending on the special features! Not as good as it should have been

The Good Sheppard A fictionalised telling of the birth of counter intelligence within CIA with a great cast ( De Niro, Damon, Jolie and directed by De Niro) however it is slow and never really seems to get going

Is Ender's Game any good? What actually happens?

it is BAD! I watched it with my little nephew and even he said half was through that it was rubbish. It must be the worst film Harrison Ford has ever been in.

We all have opinions, and I am perfectly entitled to mine regarding the film I said

Of course you are - no one suggests otherwise. I simply point out that there are lots of films to watch and many different genres.

Matt Damon in The Martian - Bloody hell! Hollywood can make intelligent sci-fi! After films like Avatar, Gravity and Prometheus I was beginning to doubt it. A bit slow and in some parts like a documentary it won't be to everyone's taste but it is well written, has a good cast, humour, they got the science right (or plausible at least) and some good music including David Bowie's Starman. I was also glad to see Benedict Wong who I've liked since he was in Sean Lock's 15 Storeys High; he seems to have made a speciality of sci-fi (Moon. Sunshine, Prometheus) and was pleased that Sean Bean wasn't required to put on an American accent. Perhaps a bit long at over 2 hours but still a solid 8.0/10
