WRT posts 167 and 169, I always understood that "not sharing data" meant not divulging private information such as banking or card details, physical or email address, medical data, phone number, and the like.
And not a photograph taken in a place open to the public.
Then you understood wrong. CCTV images are subject to the DPA. The ICO publishes some very clear guidance on use of CCTV. There are several people who are clearly identifiable from the images released, even in the images where there's a (really poor) attempt at pixellation.

Pretty despicable way to treat your customers, and very very illegal.

No doubt not even Corbyn would be stupid enough to complain to the ICO.

As for the others, let's hope that none of them have recently fled from an abusive or violent partner who might happen to see these images and now have an idea of where to go to track them down.

I rather think that's a pretty unlikely scenario.

This proves nothing of the kind. Look up the definition of proof then come back here with evidence of Souter's involvement in this instance.

I said this reinforces it.

Oh and maybe you'd like to couch your comment about Brian Souter.
Could be perceived as libellous.

If Brian Souter wishes to sue me for saying that someone who donated £1m to the campaign to prevent the anti-gay section 28 being repealed, and who engaged in significantly anti-competitive behaviour in Darlington and Preston, is a "nasty piece of work" then he's more than welcome to.

The section 28 funding by itself makes it justified opinion.

Precisely.

Corbyn won't be stupid enough to complain to the ICO and he identified himself as being on that train.

It's everyone else that the two Virgin-branded companies have treated shabbily.

As I showed, the ICO's own guidance says don't publish CCTV on the internet. "Brand reputation" isn't a reason to ignore it.

"our CCTV shows there were plenty of seats, but we'll be fixing overcrowding with our SHINY NEW AZUMA TRAINS IN 2018" would have done the job just as well.

I rather think that's a pretty unlikely scenario.

Perhaps, but then the whole point of data protection legislation is designed for these unlikely scenarios.

In what way very very illegal? Could you point me to the legislation that's been broken.

And the answer, Data Protection Act, isn't good enough on its own.

I think we'd have to argue over whether people are actually identifiable by the pixelated images, and I don't mean the people who knew they were there going to see if they can see themselves.

That's quite an important fact, before we start creating weird and wonderful situations.

I know that legislation is indeed for ANY possible eventuality, but I was just commenting on how mad it is that people are attacking Virgin and coming up with such extreme examples to justify the attack..

So what if people hate Stagecoach? Separate personal opinions and just look at the issue, which is Corbyn is as bad as any other politician - if not worse for trying to pretend he's so much better than the others.

So the crux of the argument is that Corbyn stated the train was ram packed and there was no seats available, hence him sitting in the gangway.

So what I am seeing now is that the train was non stop Kings Cross to York and he finally had a seat after 45 minutes.

Now, looking at the picture there seems to be a lot of seats available in coach H because the train staff moved people around.

So, no one got on, no one got off, so there were seats available after a bit of shuffling.

I suspect the truth is closer to the fact that him and his team could not get seated together and decided to 'spin' the truth ever so slightly never thinking they would be caught out.

There have been quotes from other people near to Corbyn who have stated that the train was packed, but, how many times have we seen people standing in one coach thinking the whole train is full when there are seats available further down the train.

This is the Corbyn, crossing the border
Cashing £3 cheques and the postal orders.
Letters for the rich, letters for the poor,
Chuck 'em on a pile to sit on the floor.

I make no claim of authorship. Pinched from elsewhere.

But funny. :D

Makes you wonder why it took them a week to respond , I wonder if Corbyn will now provide proof he was right ?

Hopefully they will provide the whole CCTV from the train so everyone can see exactly who was right, one picture can say one thing, another the opposite.

.

Thank goodness that such a terrible person has had the skills and basic common sense to build up such an enormously successful group of companies, giving employment to so many thousands of people all over the world. Isn't he also highly respected across many industries for his professionalism and general ability ?.

You do realise just how long ago it was that he was involved in the struggle for Darlington ? - before many on this forum were born !

Not everyone was pixellated. Look at the image I posted from coach F.

Both sides have shown video footage that supports their position.

The train was very busy, most seats had a reservation sticker on them, the only ones that didn't were in the unreservable bits (i.e. the north end of coach B and coach H). Whether that's "jam-packed" or not is really a matter of opinion, given that it's a subjective term not an objective one.

Preston, where he pulled exactly the same stunt before the Competition Commission finally grew a pair and made him sell Preston Bus to Rotala, was much more recent.

Ironic that the company he pushed out of Darlington- Yorkshire Traction- is now a Stagecoach company.

The person who made the video is digging a bigger hole by admitting people were found seats later, and that seats were occupied by coats or bags - which obviously means they weren't occupied at all.

I don't agree with Souter on that section 28 stuff, which was a long time again. Nevertheless he has a right to an opinion.

But effectively Corbyn has fabricated a story to appeal to his supporters as official leader of the opposition, against the interests of two leading very successful British business people. He's not fit to hold office.

Well said. It's getting to something when a supposed leader of a major political party can quite blatantly lie and expect to get away with it. Thank goodness for our media, even if they are, so often, equally stupid.

Souter is as entitled to his personal opinions as anyone else, at least he didn't just hide his views from the public gaze.

Makes you wonder why it took them a week to respond.

Because a story that had been dominating the front pages for the past two weeks finally came to an end in a carnival atmosphere on Sunday night/Monday morning.

Say what you like about Mr Branson's talents, he knows how to work the media.

Unlike Mr Corbyn, it would appear.

In response to Mr Corbyn's statement, Virgin said: " We're a bit puzzled why Jeremy couldn't find unreserved seats when he boarded the train - they're right next to him as the photo shows."
The company confirmed that two passengers were moved to first class so that Mr Corbyn could sit next to his aide.
Keren Harrison, 45, was travelling on the train and struck up a conversation with the Labour leader when she saw him sitting on the floor.
Mrs Harrison, who is not a supporter of the party, told the Press Association: "I spoke to him and then the staff came over and said 'we'll try and find you some seats, sir' - I don't know if they would have done it for any other passenger - and off they went before coming back and offering him a seat in first class.
"He declined them and I thought he was obviously a man of morals and doesn't want to sit in first class.
"They then came up and said they had managed to find him some seats and I got the impression they had moved some people around."
During the video in which Mr Corbyn is sitting on the floor, he said: "This is a problem that many passengers face every day on the trains - commuters and long-distance travellers.
"Today this train is completely ram-packed. The staff on the train are absolutely brilliant, working really hard to help everybody.
"The reality is there's not enough trains - we need more of them - and they're also incredibly expensive.
"Isn't that a good case for public ownership?"
TSSA union general secretary Manuel Cortes accused Virgin of being "disingenuous" and said Mr Corbyn had " highlighted this daily travel blight which means people sit on floors on trains every day because of overcrowding".
Mr Smith appeared to make reference to the issue in a Twitter post which read: "My campaign remains on track. Proud to be genuinely standing up for ordinary people."
Corbyn is now claiming that he only found a seat once a family were upgraded to First Class.

Corbyn is now claiming that he only found a seat once a family were upgraded to First Class.

So those numerous untaken reserved seats and unreserved seats just in that carriage alone (and there were others also with seats) weren't good enough for him. Also I REALLY hope he wasn't upgraded to First as that is blatant abuse of power and surely goes against every bit of class rubbish he spouts. This guy is a muppet (as a certain SWT guard would say). Looking at the pictures the only people Corbyn was sitting with were other fellow cronies...I mean family members....sigh...surely he must realise VTEC have CCTV and that Richard Branson of all people would want to defend his brand if possible. Clueless and he wants to run the country....into the ground with uion members doing the shovelling.

Why are you all so surprised, you can always tell when a politician is lying to you, in that you can see his lips moving.

Give the guy a break. Maybe he got his story wrong because he was traumatised by being subject to an armed robbery after a night out? :D

A busy train where the available seats were not immediately obvious. So how does that illustrate the dire state of the industry? Is he after a maximum 50% load factor on all long-distance trains? As someone else said, he should try just about any train out of Waterloo after 5pm. The Friday 19.20 to Exeter that I regularly use has been stuffed to the doors throughout the summer.

JC apparently wanted a 'new kind of politics'. Then he indulges in the worst sort of the old kind. I am astonished that even after he saw the empty seats, he didn't have the sense to abandon the stunt. He definitely aint getting my vote.

Oh yeah, it's not like a party leader has been accused of lying before or anything! Corbyn should be hung!

The guy is a complete imbecile. When in a hole, stop digging.
But his believers will believe it and repeat it, and anyone that says otherwise will be accused of lying.

Say it enough times...

Edit: friend on Facebook who is a Corbyn fan has said 'they're getting desperate now' and said he's being fitted up. So all he needs to do is just carry on lying.

No doubt VTEC have been making sure of the facts - and the lawyers will have been all over it before this was released.
