Not sure if something similar has been done before but I wondered what stock goes past our houses?!

I live in between Leckwith and St Fagan's in Cardiff, so have to South Wales Main Line cutting across the back of my house. I also have the City Line going further along behind.

Therefore, I see 142, 143, 150, 153, 158, 175s and HSTs all going past my house.

The occasional 56, 59, 60 and 66 go past too.

What about you guys? I'd LOVE to see 185s, Voyagers and 390s passing!

Class 172s, and "Rood Ashton Hall" on Sundays during the summer.

This year has also seen the passage of DRS class 37s and Stanier Pacific "Princess Elizabeth".

I used to see a lot more variety growing up in a house overlooking the Durham Coast route, where locos of classes 20, 37, 47, 56, 60, 66 and 67 were commonplace and units of classes 142, 143, 153, 156 and 158 were typical (although not all necessarily during the same period in time). There was also once a foray from a solitary class 08, dragged class 86s on more than one occasion, and diverted HSTs, 225 sets and class 220/221s. Saw a 144 on the route once, and the departmental 150 unit still makes sporadic trips over the line.

I wouldn't, they're all damn noisy things (whilst electric, Pendolinos seem to produce quite a lot of noise at the wheel/rail interface), but I was looking at renting a place recently where the latter two happened to be the regular traction on the line at the rear of the building. Didn't go for it in the end, excessive noise from trains being one of the considerations that informed my decision.

Routinely: Class 377, Class 455, Class 442, Class 387, Class 700 and the one I hear before I see - Class 171.

I could only really live in one specific place....

I'm on the Isle of Wight, so all I see are 483's. Which is no bad thing I guess, but I do miss living next to the West Coastway line in the 1990's.

Mostly 319s, 185s, 150s and 156s these days. 142s now incredibly rare round here.

Freight is all in the hands of 66s and the odd 70. Oh and 1x 59 has been through this year too!

See the 377s, 378s, 387s, 455s, 171s, a few 442s and now 700s daily. Don't believe 319s pass anymore :( Also see the odd 375s, 66s even 70s.

Croydon Croydon Croydon! Let's all get together and lament the passing of Tiger Tiger while we sit in the Skylark.

Mostly 158, 159s for passenger
Freight is normally 66s & 70s

With the odd diverted voyager thrown in now and again when the direct line towards Southampton from Basingstoke is closed

We don't live by a railway (my wife would have gone bonkers if I'd suggested it) so nothing passes our house :(

However, we do live on one of the Heathrow flight paths and so have lots of aircraft above our garden.

I can hear the trains (especially the Tata Chemicals freight trains) but can't see them from my house. I also have planes flying over including the Emirates A380s. I can also see buses from my house so thinking about it I've seen North Western Leyland Nationals from it, they aren't that dis-similar to a Northern train. ;)

VTEC
91+MkIV sets, HSTs

Scotrail
156s

TransPennine Express
185s

Various Freight and testing trains mainly
66s (DB/FL/GBRF)
67s

But to have all of those passing your house, you'd have to live in Longsight!

Or Heaton Chapel, Leyland or a very specific place in Warrington ;)

Completely wrong! Anywhere on the WCML from Golborne Junction to Carnforth will see these regularly, though south of Wigan most 185 workings are nocturnal. Living close to that very stretch I see (and hear) these and many others. Even Class 37s shatter the peace from time to time.

I can see (if I really try): 170 and 158s, 66s and that's about it other than occasionally HST sets on diversion.

Out of my bedroom window at the bottom of the garden I can see on a daily basis 66's, 142's, 150's, 156's, 158's, 185's, 319's, 350's and 390's. That is pretty good in this day and age but compared to what it was like 30 years ago when we moved in it is pretty boring. You do get the odd engineering train or Railtour with something different.

Back in the 80's we would get most of the loco classes operating in the North West UK on a regular basis. It was brilliant.

Another one living close enough to hear trains along two lines, sooo....

Usual suspects are 321 / 322 / 333, with a smattering of 142 / 144 / 150 / 153 / 158. Lesser spotted are class 66s, and rarer still are 91s, the shy and very rare 43s with the elusive 56 very occasionally making its voice heard up and down the valley.

Edit

We are also on the annual migration path of a pair of 20s.... :)

I live on the Eastern end of the GWML, so HSTs, 180s, 165/1s, 166s, class 59s, class 66s & the occasional class 70.

I used to get Virgin & XC voyagers until the Brighton route got cut.

North side of St Albans, so it is almost exclusively 319s 320s and 321s.

That's except for the odd 737 from Ryanair or TAROM :)

I assume the switch to TFL rail put pay to the one or two daily peak 315's that ran down the Southend line?
Yes it did, I always enjoyed getting the 6.42 from Rayleigh when it was a 315 full speed on the main line from Shenfield.
