I've just finished the six episodes (over 5 hours) of the 1985 BBC drama Edge of Darkness. It is a bit dated now but was probably ahead of its time and is one of those things (like The War Game) that everyone should watch at least once. Joe Don Baker as Darius Jedburgh, the jovial but sinister CIA man, was the best thing about it. 7.0/10

Mars Attacks - a curate's egg of a film, there were some very good scenes, like the Martian disguised as a woman, then there were the cringeworthy scenes with Tom Jones. A star studded cast (Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Benning, Rod Steiger, Pierce Brosnan, Jack Black, Joe Don Baker, Danny De Vito, Michael J. Fox, Natalie Portman) but it didn't really work for me. 6.0/10

The Signal - another (relatively) low budget sci-fi gem in which three students trying to track down a hacker find themselves somewhere unexpected. This reminded me of Dark City and to a lesser extent The 13th Floor as well as Frederik Pohl's short story "The Tunnel under the World" - 7.0/10

Re-Animator, a weird film about a serum which re-animates the dead.
Lots of disgusting scenes (nudity etc) ruin a horror film with potential.

The Riddle - I came across this on IMDb where it had some awful reviews but I was intrigued by the storyline so when I found it on eBay for £1.29 inc. P&P I thought I'd give it a go even though it was originally released as a giveaway DVD with the Mail on Sunday. It is a British film with lots of familiar faces (Vinnie Jones, Derek Jacobi, Jason Flemyng, P.H. Moriarty, Mel Smith and a very small part for Vanessa Redgrave) which is never going to win an Oscar, it's a bit creaky but with a quirky charm, some genuinely funny, laugh out loud lines and novel and intriguing plot revolving around a journalist, played by Vinnie Jones, and Charles Dickens. Worth watching for probably the only time you'll see Vinny Jones get a beating. 5.5/10

Hitman: Agent 47, not what I expected, lots of action and it largely lives upto the video game except that the Agent 47 character is shadowed by the girl who is more important to the story and has the best action scenes. The character played by Zachary Quinto who I personally dislike (he's a fake Spock!) was not even needed in the story. Overall the film was great... but the ending wasn't really a 'proper' ending (one of those cliff hangers sadly).

Independence day: Resurgence followed by The Secret Life of Pets

Was Independence Day 2 any good?
I ask as the i newspaper gave it terrible reviews of just 2 stars and a scathing comment section, and I was looking forward to it before then.

The Naked Gun - another Leslie Nielsen comedy that I can watch over and over; like Airplane! the jokes come thick and fast, blink and you'll miss one. Nice beaver - 8.5/10

It was that good my missus had to wake me up after about 20 minutes... The Secret Life Of Pets however, with the Minion short at the beginning was genius.....

Good stuff, I wouldn't mind watching those films again.

The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear - sequel to The Naked Gun (see above) and the same comments apply, except no beaver.

Game of Death was the Wesley Snipes film about an ex-CIA agent getting involved when a nasty multi-million dollar robbery takes place and tries to stop it. Great shoot-outs, great script, unique story-telling through a confession with a former Ghostbuster who's now a vicar. Good ending, great film.

Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult - having watched the first two I had to go for the hat-trick. Rarely has a series like this been so consistent. 8.5/10 again

Just been to see it, though it was alright, not as good as the original but not as bad as some of the reviews suggest.

Honestly though, they could never beat the original one (In fact i watched the first one when i got home from seeing the new one)

The reviews seemed a bit strange for it for me honestly.

Last night I watched Stalled, a film about zombies with the main character (a maintenance guy) stuck in the womens bathroom in an office block in the UK.
If you like comedy horrors you should watch this.

Last film I saw at the cinema, Independence Day Resurgence, Rubbish. Last film I watched on DVD, Deadpool, amazing. Last film I watched on Sky, The Visit, alright. Independence Day was visually impressive but the story was terrible and the acting was mostly terrible. The Visit was decent, regular M Night Shyamalan film, bit of a twist in it, a bit creepy. Deadpool was a briliant action film and really funny. Hey ho. Just my views.

I have tried to watch The Revenant on DVD and fell asleep twice. I didn't find it too challenging or tedious, I just found it difficult to care what happened to anyone. I was a bit gutted because I wanted to like it, another one of Inarritus films, Biutiful, is one of my favourites. I did enjoy the scenery until I fell asleep. Will give it one more go. Also watched The Scorch Trials. Meh, it was alright.

Predestination - based on the Robert A. Heinlein short story "'—All You Zombies—'" and starring Ethan Hawke (who I've liked since Training Day) this Australian sci-fi film has similarities to both Twelve Monkeys and The Time Travellers Wife. the complexities and paradoxes of time travel were handled well in a subtle, character driven story. It's a slow starter which carefully bringss all the pieces together for a satisfying denouement, scoring high on my mindf**kometer this could well become a cult classic. - 8.0/10

Again I foolishly believed my sister that a film she says is great is worth watching, so we watched Deadpool, apparently it's a X-Men spin-off but is nothing like it. It's full of non-funny jokes, swearing all the time in a poor attempt to be funny, disgusting scenes, etc. Also the main character doesn't really deserve respect so I don't know why we should care what happens to him, especially since he's incredibly annoying and rude. The super powers he has varies, sometimes he breaks his own hand by punching, yet other times a 100ft drop is harmless. The whole story is weak, he wants to kill someone who saved his life because he assumed his wife (Anna from V the reboot series) won't like him now his face is mildly disfigured. His power is that he heals fully... but not his face.
This film is a waste of time totally.

Star Trek Beyond is starting to be advertised, it's not real Star Trek so don't be expecting anything other than motorbikes and continuity errors.
