DOO only exists, currently, in the Strathclyde area. Around Edinburgh and on the inter-city and inter-regional routes (and rural lines) its all driver/guard.
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that.

Has to be seen to be believed. So here it is!The Twitter team have outdone themselves suggesting someone go via Clapham Junction on a Aldrington - Brighton journey because of cancellations![]()

Oh dear, the war is beginning to hit the parent company in the pocket, and hard. Perhaps the management rather expected the pesky workforce to have been defeated by now? More strike dates, more court dates and potentially the surpressed wrath of Aslef all still to come, the financial forecast doesn't look too promising for the time being.
Given that everybody knows this is DfT dirty work by contract, how much longer will Go Ahead be willing to act as the sh*t on the end of the government's stick? I wonder if the corruption is rife enough for tax payer funds to find their way over to Go Ahead HQ in order to keep the collusion alive and well...

Shocker, 'Minister supports government agenda...' You can almost see the hand up her arse.
Currently over sixty comments below the article, and I count two or three in support of the minister/GTR. All others totally unconvinced. They really are struggling, aren't they?! I particularly like this one
"Self-righteous smug bint, promoted above her ability."
I wouldn't know about her credentials as a bint, but the rest appears fairly accurate. She can do comedy though, providing a few laughs by describing Horton etc as "top of the range" management!![]()

Someone organised a petition calling for her resignation in light of this interview it would seem.
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/132691/sponsors/XrFi06QnFKgsQmddWY6v
you managed to pick that up quickly, it still doesn't have enough signatures to go live. You can have mine though.
The recent interview with The Argus demonstrated that Claire Perry has no clue how to resolve a dispute to the mutual benefit of all stakeholders. She has shown no professionalism with inflammatory comments and cannot be entrusted as a public servant at DfT to work for the long suffering passengers.
The only messages Claire Perry managed to convey in a recent interview with The Argus (http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/1455...s_are_launching_a_war_on_passengers/?ref=fbpg) are finger-pointing, inflammatory and provocative, and she has contributed nothing towards resolving the ongoing dispute between GTR and its staff that anyone can see. The last thing GTR passengers want at this moment in time is a government minister to add fuel to the fire.
I'm saying nothing.
Details of the petition:
Why was this petition rejected?
Its about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not responsible for.
The resignation of an individual Minister is not a decision for the Government or Parliament as a whole.
If you're concerned about a particular policy or decision that's the responsibility of Government or Parliament, you could start a petition about that.
We only reject petitions that dont meet the petition standards.
It would be quicker to walk. Of course if you want to see the scenery it might be worth doing. Would be a cheap journey but you wouldn't be allowed to exit Clapham Junction station, although I assume you could use the station facilties there.Has to be seen to be believed. So here it is!
RMT launches new dossier exposing safety risks of axing guards from rail services
ROLE OF THE GUARD A dossier on the dangers of driver-only operation which exposes in detail the threat to safety on rail services from axing guards from our trains.
The report which highlights a catalogue of incidents where safety has been compromised on DOO services as well as incidents where the presence of the guard has averted potential disaster is released by the union on the day that a major protest in defence of guards on Southern Services is held in London and 24 hours after RMT announced a programme of industrial action on Scotrail against the extension of DOO.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;
This dossier has been produced by RMT as part of our national fight against the introduction and extension of Driver Only Operation on Britains railways as the greedy train operating companies look to dilute the safety regime in favour of maximising their profits from the privatised network.
The dossier sets out a range of examples from across the country that detail the real consequences for the travelling public of axing and undermining the safety-critical role of the guard.
The examples are horrific but the current moves, in the wake of the Government-backed McNulty report that made DOO the default option on our trains - mean that they will be the tip of the iceberg if we dont halt and reverse the drive to take out the guards.
Everyone who works on the railway knows that Platform/Train Interface is the number one area of risk, day in and day out. That fact is accepted by the safety agencies who are there to monitor and manage the safety regime across the rail network.
With surging demand, unmatched by rail capacity, overcrowding on our trains and on our platforms is now endemic. The guards, working with their platform and driver colleagues, are the pivotal point in the safe management of the dangers presented at the passenger/train interface. Removing them, or downgrading their role, is a lethal gamble with passenger safety.
Only a fool, or someone motivated solely by the bottom line on a company balance sheet, would contemplate tampering with our guards on Britains crowded and stretched railways. And yet that is exactly what is happening.

The dossier is available to view at the above link and by RMT standards is actually quite professional looking. Hopefully it can make a difference but I won't get my hopes up.....

Claire Perry: The guard’s job now is primarily to open and shut doors.
