Why would it be quicker to do the IS ones as they presumably are stripping out the insides in the whole fleet?
The actual reason for the IS ones being done first is that they are due for C6s first
They had their previous C6s between 6/2007 and 9/2008
Then the HA were done

The Inverness ones have already had new seats, luggage racks, new lighting, new toilets and biggest of all an internal respray all unchanged in the latest refurb. They are not being stripped out. All this still needs to be done to the HA ones so will take much longer as they will need a complete strip.

158701 has appeared at Elgin to work the 1700 to Inverness, a nice wee surprise and nicer than the no 10 bus I've been taking for the rest of the week. I notice some electricity ports are of the USB variety rather than normal plugs. Very nice refurb though, the toilets especially loom much less "custodial"!

2nd unit hasnt gone into works yet. Thinknitvis either this Sunday or next Sunday it goes in.

New flooring, new coloured door and rails, new loo-tissue dispenser, new flush button (same position) and, heaven of heavens, new working air fresheners!

I only had a look at the bigger toilet, the smaller one may now host a passenger lounge

A train loo with a properly functioning hot air handdrier (think Airblade) would be something quite exciting to me. I don't think that I've ever experienced anything adequate, if they work at all, on any train. Is it a voltage thing?

The Thomas the Tank looking ones? They're an odd modification, as it's the same LED light clusters as before, but without the Perspex/Glass window covering it. There was one unit running around a short while ago with one side modified and one standard!

I saw that 701 has been reallocated to Haymarket. The next two due for refurbishment 711/713 both Inverness machines will surely be also allocated to Haymarket?

If this is the case, is it on the cards for Haymarket's 725-741 to be sent North to Inverness?

How many 158's could Inverness get by with?
Will it's allocation be less then 25 when the refurbishment is done and dusted?

Hadn't noticed that - confirmed 701 has been reallocated?

Presumably this a reaction to needing more 158s in the Central belt with the Borders line opening, plus some spare capacity appearing at HA with the 4x 170s departing south.

I find them effective in the 170s but lacking in the 158s.

I guess it depends how often they are serviced? Going back to hand dryers the refreshed 390 pendos have really good ones. V impressed.

I read somewhere that once refurbed all 40 of the remaining 158s will be in a common pool as one 'homogenous fleet' as they will all have all the necessary radio equipment to work on all 158 routes so i suppose its possible theyll all be officially allocated to Haymarket on paper.

I thought all the Haymarket sets did have re-upholsted seats when they went for overhaul.

But they've replaced the bottom cushions covered in the old style National Express Scotrail upholstery, although brand new clean material, which is why it took me a while to realise. I wondered why I wasn't squirming around on the lumps and bumps as usual.

They're the Richmond seated ones arnt they? Seems to be an almost fleetwide thing then, as FGWs Richmond seated units seem to have suddenly gained new bases as well. Which is good, it means you can see out of a Dogbox window again! (They weren't as bad as the 158 seated examples though!)

I presume the re-trimming into NX ScotRail style must be a recent thing then, I remember at least one ex Wessex unit had ex ATW seat covers last summer presumably as a replacement for the by then already manky ex Wessex material.

I'm not sure of the seat manufacturer, but it's the ghastly grey backed type that all Scotrail 158s had until First spruced up the Inverness units, and a few transfers appeared from other operators ten or so years ago.
