So is its clearance just a paperwork exercise or are all trains currently restricted on that section?

Just one of four tracks that's restricted.

We have a prohibited notice on our panel, they won't be using the down fast line at South Croydon until the track is sorted out.

Yes but the 2Wxx use the slow lines so can enter service without issue. Hence my post. There's nothing stopping them running in service on that group set as it's the same for testing as there's still a line cleared. All it is is less than idea.

When does the introduction of service, start to affect the thameslink project time table.

It doesn't. TLP requires the trains in full by Dec 2018. Original aim give many months space plus slacker introduction rates towards the end giving more make up time.

Except we don't know what traction is on what service, could get a little bit embarrassing having a new train with re-profiled body sides, if we use available options to move trains via all available lines. Best to temporary used the xQxx code, as in train restricted to certain routes for class 700s until the gauging issue is sorted out.

On a soft launch with a couple of trips a day that's no issue. A simple 2Zxx headcode is a far better use especially when there's written instructions like the note on the panel.

Just realised that no one has asked on this page yet:
When will there be this soft launch? :D

I'm just trying to annoy you all.

The only problem with that as any train running as a xZxx is just using a control code, which could mean that the train started short with new stock as much as anything else. It won't tell you that this train conveys vehicles that are "Out Of Guage" for part of its route. Our simplifiers don't reflect what stock is in the formation and you can't say that any or all xZxx is to be treated as a class 700 with restrictions. Far better to get a temporary dispensation to use xQxx code as it stands out and that the restriction fits it with the code designation.

Euraka - a 12 car went storming through St Albans northbound at about 1220 today. They sound quieter than a 319 - though that would not be difficult.

Around 4 sets at Cricklewood.

Between the parallel lines

If it's South Croydon it's one of five. I don't like to be pedantic, but... that's quite important there!

There are plenty of scenarios where the best contingency option will be to use the Fasts. Turning them round because they will bash into the platform is not just embarrassing but highly inconvenient. Potentially, you will lose half the off peak service to Coulsdon South and Merstham, and a good chunk of capacity from Redhill to Gatwick/Three Bridges. You will also clog up the platforms at East Croydon.

As Sunset route says, that has quite a bit of potential for confusion. I've been involved in plenty of 2Z workings and none of them have had any particular technical requirements - generally they were and remain either to get passengers or stock out of the way of a problem. This is custom and practice so a different letter is much better. Notes on panels, just like a lot of other written materials, do not automatically bypass the natural human ability to let human instinct take over. Adding a special letter other than "Z" gives a whole new fallback option with limited effort or complication.

Is there a chance the 700s be introduced on the Sutton or Sevenoaks route instead given the issues at Croydon?

Nice one - someone had carefully arranged a line up of 5 x 8 car 319's stabled yesterday in the "refreshed" livery at the south end of C/wood - would have made a great picture

Guess we need a farewell to the 319's event at some time .....not that far off I reckon. For all of the issues over the years - will miss them .....

For just a few minutes I think. They're now well past their sell by/use by dates. And those low reliability doors that helpfully encourage pax beside them as sentries to slow boarding and alighting .... Time for them to go the NORTH (or Wales)!

Passing Three Bridges this morning, one of the 700s stabled on the Down side appears to have acquired antimacassars in first class. I haven't noticed these on any other 'parked' 700.

Perhaps this was the Press Demo unit?

I can confirm that the first class seats of the unit used for the press launch were equipped with anti-macassars at the time of the launch.

The big question () is.... Did they have the new or old Thameslink logo on them?

Projected introduction then - 2017? :D

The fold down seat back tables can be very easily retrofitted. Normal table in standard is very unlikely given the additional cost and loss of even more seats.
