As someone who has been in an EMT DM interview, it's not really like the DM interviews as described by people who have been with other companies. IE: "An informal chat."

It's more like the OPC interview. "Tell me about a time when..." "Why did you do that?"
Stagecoach run very tough interviews I know from my experience with south west trains

Eg describe a time you have had conflict with your manager... I never have so was stumped

Could have talked in hypothetical terms I guess

Loads on team work as well

can anyone who has recently had the driver manager's interview give any examples of questions you were asked? Trying to prepare as much as I can, but never had an interview like this before and really don't know what to expect.
thanks.

Sorry to be thick but what is the difference between the DM interview and the structured? I know there are more tests to come which apparently are stage 3 but is stage 3 a further conventional interview in addition to the tests? So in effect are there 2 "proper"interviews where you get grilled?

The DM interview asks questions that are relevant to the role focussing on health and safety, why you want to work for the company etc. The 3rd part if you are successful is more assessments, the bits from page 40 onwards focussing on alertness, observation and two hand co-ordination. The interview at stage 3 is structured as in it is based on the same questions but you give a top line that you then build on during the interview. The questions you are asked are based on your answers and on the answers you gave earlier to a series of questions. Each interview in that way is specifically tailored to each candidate and can be very intense a lot of why, how did that make you feel, what could you have done differently? Kind of questions, I can guarantee no two people will have the same structured interview whereas the DMI interview you all have the same questions to answer. BB3 is right you need a whole day off for the 3rd stage.

What do you know about the company?
Why do you want to work for us?
Tell us of a time you made a mistake?
Have you ever had a job where safety has been important?
Have you ever not finished anything? How did it make you feel?

There are others, can anyone remember any more?

What do you know about the company?
Why do you want to be a depot driver with east mids trains?
What awards have we won?
What would you do if you saw someone breaking rules?
Describe a time when you coached a colleague, dealt with a difficult colleague etc?
Describe a time when you communicated a complex message.

Is everyone getting nervous? I am doing research for my answers but I'm worrying that I might be asked something really difficult that I haven't thought of :(

Good luck to you all xx

Just do your best. If you have what's required, you'll pass.

Just as a heads up, the EMT interviewers I've had have all been quite "neutral." They're not unfriendly but they're not overly friendly either.

I assume it's so everyone is treated the same, but it can be a bit un-nerving if you're not expecting it.

Well that's my DMI stage 2 now done. So just a very anxious few days to wait before I find out how I've done.

Yeah I'm thinking today will be the day. That's just my gut feeling though. I get the impression that stage 3 is the hardest to get through. Can anyone verify that?

I wouldn't say so. Although, it is totally subjective as what one person may find difficult someone may find easy. I was actually more confident in my MMI than the DMI but that's because I felt comfortable with my answers. I'm sure some would argue that the initial assessment day was the hardest! Sure you will be fine and good luck

Just got an email from Tania - and I'm still in the game!

No date yet for stage 3 - expected to be sometime in next few months and should know the date by the end of this month! A little vague - but looking at other threads this appears to be the norm for most TOCs where driver jobs and talent pools are concerned.

Good luck to any one else who had the Manager Interview last month

Hi Steve, good luck on the course mate and I'll look forward to your updates.

Does everyone do their training in the academy in Derby?

I've picked Eastcroft and I'm training at Derby. I'm pretty sure that everyone will do their training at Derby.

Learn everything your can about the company ie, Mission/vision/values/aims/awards and who's the CEO.

Probable questions,

Why do you want the job?
What skills can you bring to the job?
What do you know about the role?
Tell them about a change in your life?
Tell them about a time you didn't understand a communication?
Tell them about a mistake and and what you did about it?
Why should they employ you?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Tell them about a time you had to deal with an emergency?
Describe a time you had to rectify a fault?
Describe a time you had to make a difficult decision?

Hope this helps?

Kev

As Joshie Babie said. Good week. Slowly eased back into the classroom environment. Everybody in the company is so accommodating it's unreal, really make you feel at home and nothing is ever too much to ask. Ready for week 2, let's see what this holds in store. Good luck to you guys with whatever is next.
