I work in I.T doing 12 hour shifts.
I am a shift leader and quite alot of the time I don't have the minimum staffing levels to do the job comfortably. Which usually means trying to be 3 people at once. Today I performed all the duties without taking a break and it can be a bit much. When the other shifts work I often hear excuses like "I'm entitled to my break", "I'm not paid to do 3 peoples work" etc etc. As I see it, its a challenge, the company expects more of me because I am a shift leader and I stay behind if need be to get the job done. But on top of this, sometimes the other shifts leave crap all over the place and never clean their area which is shared with everyone.
Are you seriously trying to compare working inside in the warm and the dry fiddling about with computers to fixing the operational railway. Are you really?
Are you really trying to compare tidying up a work bench inside with the operational railway environment? Is that your point of comparison? That is, at best, fatuous.
Going back on topic, I don't see how NR can say a job is done if its not done.
ooooooooooooooooh I don't know, perhaps if the trains are running safely over the area that has been fixed or something.
I certainly wouldn't hire NR to say build HS2 if their track record of just replacing track and tidying up after themselves is so hard. Your past work is your CV and if you don't have a good CV then you shouldn't be hired to do more work. I understand that "Presentation" is not the end of the world. But saying that if the job description states that "Presentation" is part of the job, the end product should be "Presentable".
I watch NR's youtube channel and certainly in all of those videos the presentation is top notch, but then you would expect that from a video. If they put up a video and the end result of the video was debris left all over the place I would assume the comments section would be an ugly place for NR.
what on earth are you talking about? Are you suggesting that presentation of a work site should be the basis for awarding contracts? Really? Nothing about safety, value for money, efficiency, skills, equipment or ability to deliver? Just presentation?
You tube? eh?
Network rail as a company seems to be heavily mismanaged. If NR were mountain climbers they would reach 80% of the way and then come back down and state "Well we did most of it". Yet they continue to disappoint time after time.
on what do you base that statement? Your years of understanding the railway industry? Have you any evidence to back up any of your statements?
I'm not here to judge how people do what they are professionals at. But as a bystander who has interests in railways I don't always see the bottom line in £'s as the correct measure of performance. Its about attitude.
Judging people is
EXACTLY what you have done in every single post then pointed out how you could do it better, quicker, stronger and cheaper despite naff all experience or understanding of the topic.
Ultimately if you told me any project NR is doing and gave me a target date and budget. I would hazard a guess that they would miss both, not just by a bit, but by a considerable margin. And its not because the workers are no good at their job, its because as tax payers we just let it go. There is no punishment, there is no consequences. If the government paid more for getting jobs done efficiently, quicker and more professionally.. Perhaps the results we seek from NR would come sooner rather than later.
Have you missed all of the projects delivered on time and on budget? Of course you have, that doesn't suit your silly agenda does it?
As for the rest: what on earth are you talking about? You have no idea about projects, funding, regulation or any of the challenges faced in delivering a railway project. I wouldn't mind if you were keen to learn or understand them but you are not.
argh!
