Hadn't notices the blue glow of the interior before is that camera artefact or does the glazing and /or lighting have a blue tint?

It's because the auto white balance on the camera has adjusted the balance based on the yellow sodium lighting. Look at the Electrostars in some of the pictures.

It due to one of my cameras having a night mode which gives modern units lighting a blue tint when viewed from outside. You can see from the seat pictures its not blue inside.

The end of what?
Of any sort of relative comfort. I'll reserve total judgement until I've experienced one but it doesn't look good at all. It doesn't help that I'm one of the poor saps who spends two hours on Thameslink on a half regular basis to travel between Harpenden & Brighton. Perfectly reasonable at the moment with 377s and even 387s are bearable with their arm rests and tables but these 700s...

As I was lucky enough to be on the first test train some first impressions. Std Seating very similar comfort wise to the c387, which I don't mind. No armrests, no tables and no power points. Legroom is tight, I'm 6ft tall and my knees only just didn't touch the seat in front. priority seating has more legroom as you'd expect. 1st class seating was all covered in plastic sheeting still and was not tried. Air con is noisier than c377/387 but not as bad as c450 etc. The ride was better than a c377/387 smooth at all speeds. Luggage racks for cases are a bit weedy looking and not as big as c377/387. Overhead racks are glass so you can see what you,ve left behind. 2 plus 2 seating gives a wide gangway, looks weird being able to see so far down the train, especially snaking across points, disabled toilet blocks the view halfway down the train. The only toilet open for us to use was a small one, similar size to the one in a Mk4 coach with a sliding door much better than the c377 small loo. Interior is well screwed together, bright but utilitarian a modern successor to the 4VEP.

Thankfully that may be about to change, if rumours are anything to go by. class377/5 may know more.

My understanding is the discussions are for WiFi for passengers (WiFi being installed already just not set up for passenger usage).

Plug sockets and seat back tables are someone getting over excited over the wording of a press release over WiFi and nothing more as I understand it. That said I'm not familiar with it but seems too be more someone hoping not factual.

As for spacing, recent commuter group went on a unit in the depot and commented on the better spacing on production model compared to the mock up.

As for seating, seems we are repeating all the moaning back from the mock up again. Don't see why people thought a multi million pound mock up would be massively different from the real thing on a contract that was signed and sealed.

After lots of hard work and stress for all involved, it's great to watch the vid of '7' coming into Brighton, just a bit sad I'm on rest days at the mo and wasn't there for the first outing

Surprised that it's still OPPOS through Norbury slow platforms, I would of thought that would of been sorted out quite quickly. Even a bigger surprise is that class 700 are banned from Three Bridges Down Sidings South?

Fantastic looking trains in my opinion. Not often I think a train looks good either...

Will they now do extensive testing thoughout 3rd-rail land, or will a trip to the AC be a priority?

(as an aside, are the new tunnels now being used to transfer TL stock to Hornsey or are they still going by a more convoluted route?

The new tunnels aren't open yet, and neither is the new Hornsey depot for that matter.

Canal Tunnels are for TL stock transfers from mid 2016 (ie when depot opens) ahead of passenger services over them in May 2018.

First night saw testing at line speed so once the units are on AC they will be able to travel at full speed permitted.

100mph as currently that's all the MML is for electrics.

Though they'll be running on the GN on 125mph sections

Current TL stock (319s, 377s, 387s) goes to the existing Horsney depot for some work. It currently has to go by a convoluted route (though I'm not sure the full details of this)
