Yes I am democratic. The government that was recently elected to power was elected with a policy to build hs2. We all had a vote and chose to elect such a party. Now, i don't like the majority of their policy agenda but am prepared to accept the election result. oddly that , in your eyes makes me less than a "100% democrat". Not sure how that works.......
I think HS2 is as good an idea as we have to alleviate the congestion problems on the south WCML, invest in our national infrastructure, help towards employment, better communications and help to further extend what our government class as a strong economy.
I am still waiting for a realistic alternative to explain how we cram more people on more trains down the busiest mixed traffic route in Europe , if not the world. But i am sure you are right.

What he actually said was that he wanted to; stimulate the economy by increasing investment in new high speed rail, creating jobs and connecting more towns and cities which is not quite the same thing!

As for the reason for the 2015 election result, yes I'm certain that HS2 was the overriding reason on which most electors, those that could be bothered to vote of course, based their ballot choice, what other reason could we have all had for voting ?
I'm glad you think that the WCML problems will be alleviated by billions of pounds of investment, good old WCML is all I can say, I'm far more interested in the railway serving the entire UK, not just another massive spend on one chosen line, perhaps the residents of such places as Derby, Nottingham and Leicester will benefit from their services being cut back to accommodate an HS2 which will be of no use to them whatsoever as they try to commute to work or visit friends, mind you, they can always travel by car I suppose
As I now live in the South West I very much doubt that HS2/3/4 or 5 will be of the slightest interest to me, it doesn't mean that I should be happy about the waste of public funds by a government of any colour and nor does it mean that I am in any way, shape or form 'enraged', so please don't attach your silly labels to me
