I wonder if I could ask the assistance of our fare and ticketing experts.

The actual journey isn't until the start of Feb, but using the December info available online, the best price I can find, using advanced singles for a journey from Birmingham to Edinburgh, arriving before 15:00 on Feb 5th & retuning Feb 7th after 14:00 is working out at about £96.

I'm not eligible for a YP or Senior railcard :(

Do any of our experts have any knowledge of possible splits that would show a saving?

Many thanks

Errr, Smethwick!
For Friday morning outbound, I would have suggested keeping an eye on Megatrain availability (via megabus.co.uk) when released as they have often been available on the 0615 from Birmingham New Street. However, at the moment, nothing seems to be showing up beyond the end of this month (abut £9). Also, I've never seen them on trains on this route on Sunday.

Thanks.

Actually first class on the 06:15 for £50 seems decent value. Shame the frist cross city line train arrives in New St at 6:30!

I would keep an eye out as soon as reservations open given you know exactly what dates you wish to travel. Megatrain would certainly be a good place to try and get a ticket from.

The cheapest Advance single on this route is £24.70 Route: XC Only and a second tier at the same price Route: XC Only via Derby. The cheapest is £15.00 Route: VTWC Only. There is also a tier at £16.50 Route: VTWC & Connections.

I've used Megatrain for VWC services regularly for the last few years and I've never seen tickets available for a Friday, only Mondays to Thursdays.
