I think it means it's 158838 tonight, Gerald's stock and 67029 have been working between Holyhead and Crewe today with the other loco hauled set has been stabled at Crewe.

Full and standing departing Cardiff it was tonight.

Although having the 17:30 FGW Carport service starting at Newport probably didn't help matters, but the passengers leaving at Newport were soon replaced with the passengers boarding.

Gerald is a 175 this week as the set is being used for boat train extras. The new set is on it's normal diagram. The extras are:

1K51 1222 Holyhead to Crewe
1D02 1423 Crewe to Holyhead
1K52 1715 Holyhead to Crewe
1D03 2124 Crewe to Holyhead

I saw Gerald sitting in platform 12 at Crewe last night (still with FIRST CLASS written in big letters on the outside of the RFB) and none of the platform staff seemed to know why it was there :P Caused some confusion with platforms as 1W97 1645 Llanelli to Chester had to go into 11 (instead of 12) meaning that 1D93 1910 London Euston to Holyhead had to go into 6 (instead of 11).

Bit of a thread rebirth, but sitting on platform 2 at Cardiff Central and just saw 67001 and DVT trundle past. Couldn't see anything on RTT (or the two 66 that went past a bit earlier) - does anyone know what they're up to?

67029 and 17 16 Cardiff to Holyhead failed Newport tonight with Brake fault.
Train will restart at Chester at 2006 as a 3 Car so would appear to be 175/1.

I understand the DVT used on the Manchester run had flats on its wheels and was withdrawn, so perhaps a replacement for Monday in place of the 150s.
Do ATW still have a spare DVT at Canton, anyone know?

ATW have three DVTs - One spare usually at Canton.

A fourth is currently being refurbished.

ATW advertising fact that Gerallt in the morning will leave Holyhead as 3 Car (175) with no first class and reduced catering. Watch this space re 17 16 Cardiff to Holyhead tomorrow night.

That was the intention!

Apparently there was no conductor available, so it ran ECS to Llandudno Junction, and started from there for passenger use, departing 11 minutes late into the bargain!

EDIT

I now see PHILIPE got in just before me!

Does anyone know if it's possible to know which of the five menus on the ATW website is used on a particular week?

I just tweeted ATW to find out as I'm off on it soon and Dan on @ArrivaTW helpfully advised that menu 1 is in operation this week.

Hope this helps

They may not be exactly what is on the website - I dined last Wednesday and although it was broadly similar to menu five one of starter (sardines instead of mussels) and one main (lamb steak instead of beef pie) were different.

I was on the southbound Gerald on July 20th and we stopped additionally at Chirk and Ruabon. I asked the guard about it and he said they were gauging the gap between the train and the platform as it may stop there in future. Looks like the 0747 WRX-BHM may well be withdrawn at the next timetable change :(

This is the reason it lost 18 minutes between Wrexham & Gobowen.

Arriva are currently planning to utilise the WAG set and 67 for a private charter on the 10th & 12th August 2015 by the Welsh Rugby Union. Subject to Welsh Government Approval.

Monday 10th August, 1W77 09:40 Cardiff Central-Colwyn Bay 13:15
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/V ... 0/advanced

Wednesday 12th August, 1V77 14:10 Colwyn Bay-Cardiff Central 17:55
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/V ... 2/advanced

As a result of this, the usual WAG service should be altered as follows;
Monday 10th August, the WAG/67 forms 1V90 04:25 Holyhead-Cardiff Central 09:18 (the usual 1V91/1W96 should be DMU operated on this date).
Wednesday 12th August, the WAG/67 forms 1W97 18:21 Cardiff Central-Chester 21:28 via Crewe (the usual 1V91/1W96 should be DMU operated on this date).v

If using a first class Britrail pass on Virgin Trains, VT East Coast and a few other TOCs, the pass allows access to first class which also includes complimentary meals.

Does a similar arrangement apply to this service? Are first class Britrail pass holders entitled to complimentary at seat catering? Or is a special supplement payable?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you are.

As with other passengers, you only pay for any alcoholic drinks.

I've managed to fit it into a number of itineraries - always brings the effective cost of the ticket down!

Alcoholic beverages are complementary on Virgin East and West Coast.

On weekdays, no free alcohol at the weekend.

True but I figured with the OPs reference to 'meals' they were travelling on a weekday :)

The question (and this thread) was about the ATW Premier Service between Cardiff and Holyhead.

I was answering that - on that service you do have to pay for alcoholic drinks, but you do get a free three course dinner (or cooked breakfast in the morning service).

Thanks, Berneyarms, ainsworth74 and Hadders!

Until recently I didn't think ATW had any first class at all. I guess with the rebrand, they don't. And I didn't think ATW ran a proper restaurant car.
