Related to this thread - I was talking to a colleague today and they said they were forced to buy a new ticket that sounds a little dubious. They arrived at Leeds station on a slightly late train and had to get over the footbridge to make their connection (I'm not sure of which platform). Unfortunately another train arrived just before his on the opposite side of the bridge and he wasn't able to get himself and case through the crowd heading the opposite direction. Because of this he missed his connection.
He was made to buy a new ticket for the next train because his original train wasn't 'late enough' and he 'should' have been able to make the connection.
Reasonable response by the guard? (I can't provide more details since it's a second-hand story told over a pint.)
