Just been looking at footage on YouTube of some of the pre service training runs earlier this year using both 57s and 37s and this vehicle (17159) seemed to feature regularly in those rakes.

DBSOs into service this Saturday (25th) i believe.

I take it that the introduction of DBSOs hasn't actually happened today if there has been no follow up posting.

There seem to be a number of further STP workings (which would be consistent with more testing) for next week via the coast with stops.

e.g. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97182/2015/07/27/advanced

Edit - having noted the point above, 37218 isn't 'under genius control' on the list posted on the scot-rail list earlier - maybe there is a DBSO out on the Carlisle starter after all?

Edit again - no, false alarm - no DBSO out (by observation) - however, 37218's stint has come to an end replaced by 37423. This is north end of the set with the 'Anglia'-painted BSO and 37409.

Been suggested 37402 and DBSO will be on 0515 ex Carlisle on Monday. Also suggested the other set will have the DBSO attached 'some time next week'.

Obviously very much subject to change etc...

Looking to ride the Cumbrian 37s in 2/3 weeks on either a Monday or Tuesday, 10:04 ex Preston, connecting with the 11:38 at Barrow. Could I just ask those of you who have travelled on these trains, if we broke the journey at Ravenglass and picked up the following 14:37 off Barrow, are we likely to get decent seats on that one for the onward journey to Carlisle or would it be best to stay on the earlier 11:38 throughout? Thanks.

That's exactly the journey I did last week ! Depends what you mean by "decent seats", but we had no problem finding a table of 4 free in the second coach.

That sounds ok then, Ratty Arms here we come! And perhaps a quick trip on the Ratty itself:) presume the 14:37 is worked by the set of the 10:04 ex Preston? Thanks for the reply.

Interesting wonder if it will manage to last the whole day without breaking down:lol:

It better because I'm on the 1435 from Carlisle to Whitehaven later on which I think is operated by this set.

I get the impression that the loco & stock hating 47802 has a model class 37 & mk2 coach set in front of him that he likes to stick pins into so beware!

No not really I was out taking photo's of these Saturday before last, I ended up visiting photographic locations I hadn't been to for many years, which is kind of my point trains like these on regional railways were meant to be replaced over 20 years ago and now they are being reintroduced!

As I have said before from an enthusiast viewpoint its great, from a 21st century railway viewpoint its a bit of a joke

At the end of the day as long as the trains deliver extra capacity, which they do, I would expect passengers to welcome them. The timekeeping difficulties need to be addressed though, as at present the timetable is a work of fiction on bad days.

Ah ok, my bad! Just waiting at Carlisle for it now!

I agree with you that on the whole, the fact that mark 2 stock and 37s are being used in this day and age is not good enough but they are a hell of a lot better than the other trains used on this line! I think it's more than just enthusiasts that have this opinion!

"Not good enough" and "a hell of a lot better than the other trains". Can't be both of those, surely?

Can be if both sprinters and LHCS isn't good enough but LHCS is better.

To be fair we have capacity issues all over the country so every bit of stock that is usable should be pressed into use!

Exactly, which was my point! For a journey the length of the Cumbrian Coast, a 153 is definitely not good enough. The DRS LHCS is much better but Northern needs some investment IMHO!

Just off the 1435 from CAR. Still two 37s and 4 coaches! The service was very busy but it seemed to be full of enthusiasts from what I could tell!

Not sure if it has been suggested, sort of tongue in cheek, how about loco hauled 442s on this route when they are retired from southern?:)

Brilliant idea! All that is needed then is a small fleet of powerful loco's (say 3,300bhp) to make sure there is plenty in reserve for good time keeping
Yes! Excellent reason for DBS to reinstate some class 58s :D just the small problem of ETS to get around ;)

What engines are working these services today please

37409/37423 worked 2C32 (05.15 Carlisle-Preston).

37402/DBSO should have worked 2C33 05.46 Barrow-Carlisle) but was instead sent via WCML ECS to Kingmoor on 5C19 at 04.38 and 2C33 was worked by 153. Don't know what is happening to the rest of this diagram today.

Problems with the DBSOs apparently, reversion to top and tail for the moment.
14:35 is supposed to be 401/402 today.

37401/37402 took over for 2C34 (14.35 Carlisle-Barrow).

Bit of a disappointment for enthusiasts on incoming service 2C49 (11.38 Barrow-Carlisle) - 142067.

Has anyone said on this thread what the shift entry/exit times for Sellafield are? I hope to have a trip up there at some point (am waiting for the DBSOs to appear) but don't want to find myself having to stand. And are there any other major traffic generators / busy services I should be aware of?
