Well reading Wnxx would suggest door opening on the move, so presumably either the door wasn't shut in the first place or there are issue's with the CDL and the Standard lock?

A door not shut properly is usually sorted by stopping the train and shutting it, so I doubt thats it.

I hope they get the CDL issue fixed properly.

Depends if it hit something which damaged it

CDL needs the door to be shut in the first place to be effective, it won't stop the RA being given with an open door which is suggested above

Indeed, but under normal circumstances, I wouldn't expect a train to be cancelled simply on account of a door left open, particularly if it had just been left on the catch.

I gather there were more delays yesterday due to a slow Loco change at Carlisle on the first working in from Barrow.

I didn't realise that 401 is now wondering around in Large Logo Livery, looks very nice even if might give the impression of a preserved railway operation.

If I was in charge of Northern when 319's take over Liverpool - Preston later on this year I would use the freed up units to get rid of this farce.

What must be frustrating when the early morning trains fail you can have Sellafield workers losing half a days pay, if the service is proving unreliable they are not going to tolerate this method of getting to work for long.

For what its worth, and out of interest I posted in the Yarmouth loco hauled thread to find out how the DRS 37's are faring down there. 405 and 425 have worked the diagram 6 days a week since 16th June, and I have copied the reply I received on that thread here for anyone who may be interested

"Been a resounding success so far. Couple of hiccups but compared to the cl47 operation operated previously but its 1000% better. AGA are most impressed. Only down side has been the number of noise complaints recieved from thos living alongside the Wherry Lines"

Whenever there is a problem with them in Cumbria it always seems to be on the same set. 218 and 409 have worked the other diagram for nearly 3 weeks now, and I don't think there have been any major issues with them.

218 was with 423 last week when I went down.

That said, 37218 has shown itself to be much more reliable than the 37/6s.

2C32 was 3 early into PRE today with 409 and 218, and on the return an announcement was made that it would work through to CAR as the other set had suffered a delay....

I didn't manage the numbers but pretty sure I was on the set with 376XX.

I had planned to change at PRE and look at the set but LAN is easier to do if no one sells you a ticket which is not uncommon on Northern between ARN and LAN. TPE always seems to sell tickets on this short journey.

First time on the Cumbrian Coast Line yesterday. Travelled down to Whitehaven from Carlisle in a rather comfy 6 seat compartment behind a 37 in the morning. All on time.

In the evening I travelled from Whitehaven to Man Pic via Barrow and Lancaster. The loco hauled sets are infinitely better than both 2x153 combos I had as far as Lancaster. Not comfortable at all for such a LONG journey. The 153 from Whitehaven was 20 odd minutes late too.

I have to say, I was astonished when I realised, while travelling on the Cumbrian Coast a couple of weeks ago, that one of the rakes featured compartments in the brake carriage. Unfortunately, I only realised this as I alighted at Carlisle, and didn't encounter the same set again in my travels. :(

Considering a move to Memphis
Gave these loco hauled sets a good bashing today with a couple of friends. Did the whole line - first time between Barrow & Whitehaven since 1979 !

Everything went smoothly, timekeeping was a bit lax, but we were never more than about 10 down on any train. Running did seem to be rather stately at times, especially between Barrow & Millom - is that down to line speed ?

Services seemed to be well used - though most of the front coach were enthusiasts ! And the 1547 off Sellafield almost full - most people going to Whitehaven or Workington. I was also surprised by the amount of Arnside - Grange local traffic.

Looking to do the trip myself in a couple of weeks or so, Iam also amazed at this, never thought there would be a chance to travel in compartment stock on the mainline again:D what type of brake vehicle is this exactly?

Looks like a mk2e BFK,last time I travelled on one was during the early 90s from Stockport to Carlisle, would never have expected to see one in revenue earning service again on the mainline, many thanks for posting this:)

17159 is a Mark 2d coach. There weren't any further compartment coaches built after the Mark 2d stock (other than composite coaches in SR EMUs).

Just occurred to me that this coach probably isn't going to be long term on these services once the mk2 DBSOs are all available? looks like a case of ride it while you can.

Grr, DBSOs only a few days before I get up there! Compartments sounds great, shame I won't sample those, last time was on Southern slammers in 2004!

Shall be sampling some 37 haulage briefly on each of Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday next week!

I take it this compo was only recently on the service ? I don't recall noticing it when I was on the line a few weeks ago.

Not a composite, a BFK. But pretty sure it's recent. There was a BSO in old VT livery a couple of weeks ago.
