Agree with Swifty; a lot of disadvantages for relatively little benefit.

Indeed two frankly baffling redirections for very little benefit! You'd be surprised how popular the Cumberland Basin to Clifton link is.

Keep the 505 as it is! As there isthe 11 and mertobus will serve cumberland road!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
312 is also being withdrawn!
Wessex will only operate the 625 on a sunday otherwise the 624/625 will be severnside.
Kings Ferry services C4, C8, C9 and C10 are also withdrawn.
So a fairly big drop in PVR for Wessex!

12/19 being combined into a more frequent 12
625 contact has gone
79 contract has gone to faresaver
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
and with the 501 cut back

No the 11 will run via Anchor Road, I can't see it lasting much longer in its current form as it now loops up Baldwin Street and down Union Street completely missing Market Gate out.

With the X2/3 now calling at Bower Ashton campus during the day the 11 is really only duplicating those routes now.

the 228 is starting and finishing some trips in Marshfield, the 79 will run one trip in the evening I would expect that the 779 is a service which will run into some part of swainswick and larkhall and I would expect is added to the cycle of services that the bus currently operates

Seems to be Southmead Hospital has taken over as North Bristol hub for buses.

I am not sure if this would work but that is why I am making some suggestions.

625 reduced to 2 hourly
624 rerouted so Severn Beach - Hallen - Henbury Road - Westbury Village - Southmead Hospital (running 2 hourly)

I think that's a good idea, particularly as I think Hallen should have more buses.

But from my experience quite a few people use the 624 (particularly the morning journey) to go into central Bristol, so perhaps the current journeys should be retained and then it could also operate off-peak following your route. That would also mean the 623 could be scrapped then. However I'm not sure if a 2-hourly service from SB/Pilning to Cribbs is good enough?

When the 625 was still 2 services (625+680) it was only 2 hourly!

Seems to be close to what is actually going to happen. Travelwest has not mentioned this but South Gloucestershire Council's website says:

"Service 625 – Wessex/Severnside Transport (Severn Beach – Southmead Hospital)

Intermediate running times are revised across Monday to Saturday to improve reliability and punctuality.

Monday to Saturday timetable to be run by Severnside Transport, Wessex Connect still run Sunday service between Severn Beach and Cribbs Causeway, no change to Sunday service.
Service will now serve Southmead instead of UWE Frenchay Campus. Service 625 route will remain the same between Severn Beach and Great Stoke Way.
From Great Stoke Way the service will run via Station Road, Link Road, and Southmead Road to Southmead Hospital and on return via Monks Park Avenue to Southmead Road. Service 625 will no longer serve Filton Lane, Coldharbour Lane and UWE.

It's half right. The 625 is about spot on but not the 624. However, don't know what this fascination is with more buses to Hallen.

I don't understand what the obsession is with buses from Southmead Hospital to Cribbs Causeway?! Why is the 625 being diverted there instead of UWE? There are already plenty of buses linking the two together (2, 76, 82); don't see why there needs to be more!

I say scrap the 11 as the 12 links Bower Ashton and Frenchay campuses, and with the X2 and X3 serving BA campus it wouldn't make a huge difference.

Not sure if UWE still provide first year students living on halls a free bus pass with Wessex as they did when I was there but I would seriously reconsider that and perhaps offer it with First instead. Originally as they only operated the 18, 70 and 319 when I was in first year it made more sense as Wessex operated far more services, but with First operating much more now it would make more sense for first year students to have a First pass instead. Although to be honest I don't see why they need free passes anyway as they don't need to go anywhere as they are on site already! Surely it would have made more sense for students living in the city centre to have one instead?!

What isnt mentioned is that the new 625 timetable has no turnarounds at either end!! How are buses sopposed to recover lost time?

I think you are missing the point. The redirection of the 625 is to link Severn Beach and Southmead. Not Cribbs to Southmead. And the withdrawal of the U.W.E section was planned anyway regardless of the reduction to Southmead.

I know but my point still stands; it's just something I noticed too. Besides, is there even the demand for a Severn Beach to Southmead service? Soon enough we'll have a Hartcliffe to Chipping Sodbury or a Severn Beach to Congresbury service!

The 11 has replaced the 12 between the Centre and Bower running the same route whilst the 11A still runs the old southern end of the 11 route!

The bus passes were always part of the contract with Wessex, now there is no contract I doubt they're still dishing out passes.

It doesn't matter if there is demand because in most cases Southmead won't be the ultimate destination anyway. As FTW33 said Southmead is fast becoming a hub in north Bristol for connecting journeys across the city.

As for the rest you're just being dramatic! ;)

i would expect higher demand for people in severn beach and village along the route and also the communities after cribbs to southmead then there was for any one going to the UWE on the 625

Guess it's a moot point. Is there demand for Southmead but equally, is there demand for Severn Beach to UWE?

As FTV33 and Swifty have said, Southmead is now the de-facto hub for North Bristol (as is the hospital in South Bristol). If only the facilities were better.

the X5 covers UWE to Cribbs now I wonder why South Glos didn't look to cut the 625 back to a one bus op and just terminate in Cribbs

Good point though wonder if it was left until the tender ran out.

I find changing at Southmead a bit of a daunting experience though its been a while since I last did it. Wish Kingswood had a slightly better interchange point but then again, I think the one way system precludes that.

625 is also there to fulfil the requirement of patchway estates to parkway, which was on the X65, then the 581, then the 580...

The number of buses serving Southmead is pretty impressive to be fair.

You know it's true though!

No. The 625 has about two people on it leaving UWE.

To be fair though changing in Kingswood isn't bad at all. The Kings Chase Centre is right outside but also Cecil Road and Moravian Road are just around the corner.

There are worse places to change!

It is spread over two or three separate locations which is why I said I wish it were slightly better. However, it could be worse

Ah I'm working on the basis of from September, but yes at the moment (does it still run now UWE have finished?) it is a through service.

I'm not too sure to be honest; I (surprisingly) haven't been at UWE since we finished for summer. I've also only seen a 12C in the Centre.

I'm surprised the 19 is being withdrawn, however. If anything I think that was Wessex's most popular route. There is a massive demand for a link between Cotham/Redland and UWE, and with the 72 now running only half hourly from the timetable change, I think there could be some pressure on that section.

Ah then the 12C is in operation for the summer to the Centre only then. As for the 19 it hasn't been withdrawn, only merged into the 12 registration so presumably they'll inter work at one end of the cycle?

The 19 is also being reduced in frequency to every 20 minutes, so is there really that big a demand for both services to be cut back?

This was posted to the Wessex Twitter a few weeks back regarding UWE services;

We would like to thank EVERYONE for there support over our service 13,we will be announcing shortly enhancements on all Uwe services. Wessex

Yeah, you've got Moravian Road, then the two stops on Regent Street. The 42/43 stop can get busy as the pavement is fairly narrow with pedestrians pushing past. It's not the worst place to wait though - there are many worse places to wait for a bus ;)
