I saw Bath Bus Company's MCV double decker on the A4 for the first time the other day. It looks good! I got a photo but my phone is so poor in low light that it's not worth uploading.

One service I've noticed which seems to be not very well used at the moment is the 86 Wotton Under Edge to Kingswood service. I often use one of the last two journeys in the Kingswood-Yate direction and most of the time only a handful of passengers seem to be using the earlier service with the later of the two often being nearly empty.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the loadings may be so light on this service? Would First's 81 service between Kingswood and Yate have anything to do with it or is it the case that the service is busier in the other direction(Wotton Under Edge-Kingswood)?

Looks like competition in Bristol is about to step up - CityFox bus are recruiting for 40 bus drivers and are also in talks about starting a North Bristol Park & Ride service.

Hmm...

Have they actually ever ran a bus? I note on Twitter they are also advising "our 35" service. In the small print it states "This service is operated by Cotswold Green."

That's a retweet from an agency but at first glance.... Is that a photoshopped Arriva Sapphire Streetlite? Actually, wrong colour door handles. Still, I can't wait to hear what their financiers will say!

I recently saw former Wessex Wright Streetlite Wheelforward MX60BWP on eBay, here.

Does anyone know why Wessex have got rid of this, was it a loan bus from wrights may be?

It was written off by Rotala with what looked like relatively minor accident damage involving nearside panel damage only. No idea why it was written off, as the damage looked easily repairable & is backed up with the Ebay description.

A member of the Yahoo! Groups-based "UK-Bus Southwest" group, Colin Oakley, has written on the group that:

"My wife was travelling on Wessex 625 today, UWE-Cribbs Causeway-Severn Beach and the driver was heard to say that Wessex were not operating the service from sometime in August."

Another member, Andrew Fear, wrote in reply that "the local change date is the 22nd/23rd of August. There will be something of a deluge of registration changes appearing on VOSA over the next week (including two of mine) and this may be among them. I have to say that amongst all the rumours and suggestions i'd heard about the August changes, this wasn't amongst them."

Anyone else heard anything regarding the 625 or who / what might, if this is true, replace it?

Well SGC were talking about withdrawing the 624 and cutting the 625 back to Parkway

And the 79 Bath - Marshfield.

The 624/625 must be due to changing of the service as planned by SGC but is also more likely a sign that Wessex have lost the 625 to Severnside Transport or to First, or it could just be merging the licence with the 501/502 as they will more than likely all terminate at Parkway.

Are we expecting any big changes to Wessex services? I ask simply because they're having a big driver recruitment campaign, and lately have been publicising that their future plans are "expanding". Also, most of tehir recent registration are for changes in September, not August.

I'm not aware of any further planned changes or expansion over & above the UWE services listed on VOSA. The Wessex fleet actually appears to be contracting again, plus there is withdrawal of services 624/5 to consider during August as well.

Wessex fleet movements:

Wessex WF Streetlites 20976/7 have move from Avonmouth to Diamond Bus (Redditch) (I suspect due to the UWE 19 withdrawal / changes)
Volvo B7L 30402 is also withdrawn from Avonmouth

Over the weekend I ended up riding the 622 between Thornbury and Yate. For anyone who doesn't know this service is now operated by Severnside Transport and now runs between Thornbury and Tetbury.

I travelled on the journey that departed Thornbury Tesco around 1630 and expected a good number of passengers to board the service to travel towards Yate. However, the only other passengers who boarded there were a couple of pensioners making local journeys within Thornbury.

I thought the 622 was much better used between Thornbury and Yate although I'm not sure, is usage of the service normally higher in the opposite direction at that time of day?

So, looking on Traveline, there is no sign yet of the Wessex 19, or of UWE Holiday journeys on the 11, 12 or X14.

The 12 is basically the current 12C route. The 11 is the current 12 route from Bower to Broadmead.

And the 501/502 are each hourly, but on an uneven split.

And the surprise...
The 625 is withdrawn south of Parkway as expected, but is instead running to Southmead Hospital via the Ring Road and Southmead Rd, with Severnside.

So leaving Parkway for Southmead Hospital there is now:
xx11: 77 via Ring Road / Southmead Rd (First)
xx20: 502 via Ring Road / Southmead Rd (Wessex)
xx27: X18 via Gypsy Patch / Southmead Rd (First)
xx27: 18 via Little Stike / Filton Rd (First)
xx40: 501 via Ring Road / Southmead Rd (Wessex)
xx45: 625 via Ring Road / Southmead Rd (Severnside)
xx57: 18 via Little Stoke / Filton Rd (First)
... and the 82

Thank you for this!

Looking at the 625 timetable, I am also surprised to see it will start earlier (0550 from Severn Beach) and finish later (2000 from Southmead). Very happy with that! The timetable is a bit odd though - there seems to be absolutely no time between journeys at either end?

Also glad to see 624 service is not being withdrawn.

A real shame this morning after Abus Spectra R222AJP, the first low floor decker to enter service in the UK, was gutted by fire on the Bath Road.

Yep, 60 min journey time each way with no lay over. And that is on every journey, including the evening peak! THe only difference is that the 2 early journeys each way don't call at Asda, but that doesn't affect their runnign time!

And looking at it more, the route is shown as using the Southmead Road gates to get in to the hospital (which no bus services have used for ages), and Monks Park to get out. and also showing as calling at some of the stops in the hospital grounds that no longer exist.

The only reason buses currently don't use the Southmead Road entrance is because of the demolition going on. Once the new road is built buses will use that entrance once again.

What do people think of this?

Redirect the 77 So it serves Henleaze Road instead of Kellaway Avenue and Wellington Hill West. To give Westbury and Henleaze a direct link again after the 22 bus was withdrawn many years ago.

Redirect the 505 via Southmead Road and Wellington Hill West so there is still a bus service.

Also redirect the 505 via Cumberland Road instead of Hotwells road as Hotwells road is well served by plenty of other services.

Scrap the 501 and 502 and replace them with a new 504 service with the following route, Avonmouth Village - Portway Park & Ride - Shirehampton Dursley Road - Shirehampton Green - Coombe Dingle - Westbury Village - Southmead Hospital - Lockleaze - U.W.E (When the Romney Ave bus link opens) running every half hour.

The rest of the route and to Parkway is well served by the 18 and 77.

Then if first agree redirect the 18 to serve St Marys Road in Shirehmapton so it retains a service.

Then redirect the 506 from The Dings to Barton Hill, St Annes and Brislington taking over the 513 and 514. As cumberland road would be served by a redirected 505. It would also provide St Annes and Brislington a link to Southmead Hospital.

504: Avonmouth Village - U.W.E
505: Southmead Hospital - Long Ashton Park & Ride
506: Southmead Hospital - Brislington

So you'd send the 505 on a massive detour along Cumberland Road, past St Mary Redcliffe and then across the Centre and up Park Street, all because the short stretch of Anchor Road it uses 'is well served by plenty of other services'.

All of which go to the centre and not up to The Triangle as the 505 does? I don't see the time vs cost benefit!

So the 506 can be diverted
