If the Election produces a result with a Conservative Majority in England and Wales (combined) and SNP in Scotland then that is the democratic will of the electorate and should be respected by the Political Parties.

The SNP should work with the Conservatives and could act as a moderating force in the same way the Lib Dems have in 2010-15.

A Snowballs chance in hell comes to mind. Maybe you are not familiar with the politics in Scotland regarding the Conservative Party? Any coalition with the Tories would be an insult to the Scottish electorate and result in a swift kick to the ballots!

Just as real as English nationalism.
A lot of low level intimidation has already started to happen according to friends south of the border.

In what way? and why?

I'm quite familiar with the politics regarding The Conservative Party in Scotland .

Their share of the vote in Scotland was similar to the LD's in the whole of the UK at the last Election yet no one kicked up a fuss about that when the LD's went into Coalition.

Large Areas of Southern England with few Labour MP's and a higher population than the whole of Scotland put up with Labour Governments without whining on about it. The same can be said of Northern England with regard to the Conservatives.

General snide comments never heard before about Jocks and SNP.
The general right in England were never noted for being liberal to any group from the Celtic fringe that got above their station.
A weak labour party aided by the SNP running the UK would send English nationalism into a frenzy.
English votes for English laws is only a taste of the future.

If the English are anything like the worst elements of the anti-unionist brigade in Scotland during the referendum then it will be a poor show indeed.

Anyway, fair play to the Scottish Tories and their leader Ruth Davidson, she's doing a first class job of splitting the unionist vote.
In fact the Tories have played a blinder since the referendum.
And as we all know, David Cameron was the real winner last September.

Is that the same Labour government that pandered to the Southern voter during the 'New Labour' Blair years?
And show me a Northern constituency that has got a good thing to say about the Tories and I will show you a shed full of Turkey's voting for Christmas.
I think you need to get out and about.

The North of England does whine about the Tories and Lib Dems.
I for one want a devolved parliament like what Scotland, London and Wales have! Many Northerners are suffering like never before, at least Thatcher. Look at how much government funding per head Kingston on Thames gets and look what Kingston upon Hull gets!

Carlisle - represented by an Aberdonian educated at Dundee University :p

Penrith and the Border :p

Can't get much further North than that !!! (in England)

When you say North of England that excludes the far North - should it be mid-north <D

All the "real Northern" seats are Conservative or Lib Dem

Yes but they cover large areas of largely unspoilt areas amongst the finest in England - not carbuncles like the big Cities further South.

The South of Scotland is (or was) exactly the same.

As a Scot, I have always thought the North of England gets a very raw deal by the Westminster government. I have said before in posts that the Northern Rail franchise is on it's knees because of the current government. If you can't even invest in the basics i.e transport, what hope have you got for anything else?

Ah, well I'd consider the West Riding to be the true North of England, rather than the empty bits, but maybe I'm biased

Those of us on the Scottish Left always had an option of walking away from Labour.
The Labour Party's behaviour during the referendum when they they lined up with the Tories gave us that excuse.
I really feel for those working class North of England communities that have to rely on the labour party for a fair crack at equality.

I think you'll find Teesside, Wearside and Tyneside to be the true North of England. So hop it! ;)

As a resident of the only Tory seat in the north-east, I can vouch for this. The county set do come out of the woodwork for the elections.

I wouldn't mind that idea. SNP are a party I want to vote for and I'm in England!

Just a throught here...
Split England into several devolved regions, but based on the party they vote for and not regions. A Tory, Labour, Lib Dem and Minor parties assembly. So you really do get the government you vote for.
Any comments on my party assembly idea?

Clegg hinted this morning he would be prepared to accept an EU referendum to be part of another Con+Lib Dem coalition. That would be a bigger sell out than the one on tuition fees.

I thought the Lib Dems were in favour of a referendum to some degree, albeit with the aim of increasing our presence in the European Union rather than withdrawing.

I would I have no time what so ever for the SNP or Welsh Nationalists or English Nationalists for that matter, I consider myself British first and foremost and have no time for those nationalists who are really just an excuse because they don't happen to like the British government that's in power at the moment.

Sorry, I don't think anyone can really tell you who to vote for.

You need to listen to what the parties are saying and read their manifestos. Based on what you then will know about where each party stands, and considering your own personal circumstances and beliefs (which you have tried to summarise here, but it is a very brief summary of your life) make an informed decision. Vote for the candidate/party you agree with most. If you don't agree with any of them, vote for the one you disagree with least.

I know that's not the kind of answer you were hoping for, but anyone who tells you otherwise is probably just trying to gather support for their own party of choice. We just don't know enough about you to make a decision on your behalf, nor can we ever know enough.

Please do vote, though.

Unfortunately for you both, it's a very difficult question to answer. Taking into account your location, customer base (for your particular business) your wife's probably insufficient pension and the fact that the Tories have basically promised to decimate anything you have ever earned before, I would say don't vote Tory (then I'm biased)!

Well, you just enjoy living in your bubble, you won't have to worry about anyone else.
