That succeeded in getting rid of the Tories in Scotland. But are the LibDems and Labour in Scotland happy that their tactical voting gave the SNP a majority at Holyrood? I seriously doubt it. This is why tactical voting is not necessarily a clever thing to do. Law of unintended consequences.

Which is why we need to get rid of FPTP to get rid of the whole stupid problem in the first place.

No-one is saying tactical voting is ideal, but that's it's better than the alternatives.

I always had the impression that Sinn Fein and the SDLP are generally left of centre while the official Unionists are conservative "with a small c". Not sure where the DUP stand in this respect, but assume they are right of centre in terms of defence etc.

The Alliance party are a more left-wing Unionist alternative.

Scottish Leaders Debate on BBC1 Scotland at the moment if any of you "Anglos" want to see "the tail" that may be wagging Wallace's Dog after the Election.

It's also on the BBC News Channel throughout the UK, as well as on iPlayer.

Comedy gold up here in Scotland tonight on the Scottish leaders debate. Jim Murphy (Labour) Ruth Davidson (Conservative) and Willie Rennie (Lib Dem) fighting over themselves to attack Nicola Sturgeon (SNP), an absolute gang up if ever I saw one.
The so called mainstream parties are sh**ting themselves!

I have been wondering...
The Tories keep getting Ed to deny any possibillity of a coalition with anyone (for some reason).

But both Tory and Labour are on 280ish seats according to Ashcroft's polls.
The Lib Dems will be half gone if not more, so how can Tories get in without SNP help? Are they the one's planning a deal and don't want Labour to beat them to it??

God no!
The Nats could never go into cahoots with the Tories, their support in Scotland would vanish overnight!

It's just the Tories trying to force Ed into saying that as they both know Labour voters might not like it if he says he will. It gives them capital when inevitably the Nats make a deal with Labour and they can say Labour lied.

Can we assume the Lib Dems won't agree to an EU referendum, to kibosh any coalition possibilities with the Tories?

And it will happen. You know it, I know it and anyone with any modicum of sense knows it. The Labour party are treating the voters as idiots. It is shameful. Are they planning to be a one term party? Or most probably, they will hope they have done such a good job in parliament over the next few years that the electorate will have forgotten about their lies and vote them straight in again.

The labour party have been silly to deny that they will come to some sort of an arrangement with the Scots Natts.

At the end of the day they have as much right to representation in Westminster as anyone. The real failure has been for Unionist parties to represent the whole nation over the past thirty years.

Does a deal with the SNP really scare voters in England from voting Labour?

20/30/40/50 SNP MPs helping to keep afloat the Labour Party would be up there with an invasion.
I would genuinely worry for the safety of Scots living in England.

Far fewer SNP MP's kept Callaghan going in the seventies until they voted with the Tories to bring him down

unlikely. Scots Natts policy is more similar to what labour voters want from their own party. The Tories will do their own thing, only instead of "the unions" being the source of every Ill that ever befell the Nation it will be Scotland. And the Conservative and Unionist party will dissolve amidst it's own contradictions.

If the Election produces a result with a Conservative Majority in England and Wales (combined) and SNP in Scotland then that is the democratic will of the electorate and should be respected by the Political Parties.

The SNP should work with the Conservatives and could act as a moderating force in the same way the Lib Dems have in 2010-15.
