The VTEC launch thread was starting to get a bit full of posts about rewards so I think we should carry on discussion here. Although it was a great scheme I'm aware not everyone is interested in rewards and it's therefore easy enough for them to avoid this particular thread without risking out on missing out on other VTEC news.

Although Clip will be disappointed, as for some reason he likes to point out how this campaign is failing, the petition has reached 750 signatures. If you used rewards or would have if you'd known about them earlier then please take a minute or two to sign it.

You may think the chance is small, but they keep telling us Nectar is what we wanted, they also keep claiming that they listen. We need something we can point at to say it's untrue.

2000 signatures (the amount of people they claimed to survey about the change) is our target.

Keep up the good work. Customer power can change the direction of business if they make themselves heard often enough.

VTEC's social media feeds prove the matter is not going away.

Good luck. But I'm not sure what we can do. They are not going to listen to a petition. But I agree it's probably worthwhile signing it and presenting it anyway.

We've been treated badly so I am boycotting their booking engine as a result, as well as their laughable Nectar scheme. I refuse to join it, because that would be admitting defeat.

Do you know any EC staff? If so, ask them to book your EC tickets ;)

I have the same attitude as you but had to log on to tie up the loose ends of booking my free ticket and transferring the remaining points to my Nectar card, from the appearance of the website it looks like your ready to go with Virgin

I agree partially, they don't have to listen. The petition wasn't in the original plans but was suggested by a contributor that started out in March. We decided to run with it because Virgin (in general) have a reputation for listening to customers (Richard Branson constantly tweets about the fact) and VTEC specifically have said to press Nectar is what their customers want. They've also promised to listen in the Red Report and have asked us to raise the volume to 11, we're happy to oblige.

Having a petition to point at when they say 'we listen' is a good way of disproving that. We're at 749 now (EDIT: now passed 750), so hopefully at least one more person will sign tonight.

If this company wasn't so insistent to pretend that they listen we would have probably given up, but their arrogance means we continue.

I do think, however, the most important thing to do is exactly what you're doing and I'm currently only using it to book rewards tickets. As our FOI request showed the extra they earned on commission of 3rd party tickets more than covered the rewards scheme. I did have a Nectar card but after what we dubbed 'No to Nectar day' (last weekend when Sainsbury's halved the earning) I'm no longer using the card anywhere and have never attached it to my VTEC account.

I don't know personally any EC staff although many do recognise and will talk to me if they see me on the train or the lounge, but I don't think I could ask them to buy me tickets.

Good luck from me also, I have signed the petition however to be honest I think it's over. With hindsight any campaign to save ECR should have been put into motion the moment the winning bidder was announced and Nectar was mentioned, and it was mentioned on the day of the announcement. Anyone who expected them to run two loyalty schemes is deluded it was a guaranteed certainty that ECR was gone.

The first Mk4 out the depot tomorrow morning has the capability to carry just short of six hundred people (I think) so any petition would at a guess need around 20,000 signatures to stand any chance of them taking notice.

Whilst Nectar will not be cheap to run (And it isn't as I have seen the costed projections from a company that was thinking of using the scheme a few years back) it will be much more cost effective to run that ECR is/was. Firstly as it is used by Virgin West Coast this will make the bulk purchasing of points cheaper whilst every person who signs up to Nectar via the VTEC site will gain a rebate on any purchase of points. Therefore whilst VTEC don't have to manage the scheme themselves as it is managed by a third party they are in a win/win situation as they save money from signing you up and save money by not managing it themselves. Although it is worth noting that Virgin West Coast did not announce Nectar until after the bids had been submitted for the ECML so they weren't basing it on the popularity there.

There has been a lot of noise on their social media platforms, however when you scrutinise the posts a lot of them are by the same group of people and the ranting is reducing by the week, it is nowhere near as vitriolic as it was when it first launched. VTEC have done the right thing and blank it or refer the posters to Customer Services as an argument is clearly what the posters want. Someone will at some point go to far with the comments regarding Mr Branson and Mr Souter and it will land them in hot water, they will only take so much of the derogatory comments and someone will get a letter. And some of the posts that have been deleted have been derogatory. Whether one of the major shareholders of the holding company likes a particular segment of the population or not really shouldn't be ranted about on Facebook.

I don't think I received a questionnaire regarding EC, I received several for ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper. The Sleeper one was definitely Serco as the plans are pretty much identical to what they asked my opinion on whilst for the ScotRail one I received two completely different questionaires and I haven't a clue if any of them were on behalf of Abellio, I don't recall HSTs being mentioned though so possibly not.

Without a doubt however there are marketing people out there that you can go to and say I want a questionnaire made up and want the results to look something like this and they will be able to make it happen, bearing in mind you can pass Nectar (Which probably wouldn't be specifically named in the questionnaire) off as a loyalty scheme that you can earn points whilst travelling and then buy a new frock or money off an airline ticket and so on. Bearing in mind Nectar (Even if it was specifically named in the questionnaire) would have been viewed much more positively when the questionnaire was carried out due to Sainsbury's not having devalued, Vision Express still being a partner and Homebase had not announce a big closure programme. If you were to run the same questionnaire now you may get significantly different results.

I always found East Coast Rewards odd, it was more of a booking engine loyalty scheme than a rail company loyalty scheme as you got the same points even if you booked on a competing service.

Anyway, odd though it was, and I was better off on the old schemes that were for high spenders it was the most generous scheme around at the time.

I've still not forgiven East Coast for scrapping the restaurant, but arguably there was some commercial merit (a lot like the new offering). Nectar, on the other hand, is inexcusable. Could you imagine the outrage if an airline switched to Nectar? It's a supermarket scheme, not a travel scheme. 1% back means you'd need to take 100 trips to earn enough for a free one!

East Coast Rewards is still there, you keep your points and can use them up until 30 September. Officially the only way to transfer them out if you don't have enough for a reward is to Nectar. I suggested offering Virgin Atlantic flying club as an alternative for transfers and they seemed interested but nothing is happening.

As they don't know whether you already have Nectar or not or whether you prefer Flying Club they can't automatically sign you up for the new scheme. There's also an option to select no loyalty scheme.

I urge those who don't really care about Nectar to resist the temptation to convert any orphan points to Nectar. David Horne is already using this as evidence of the success of the scheme.

One of our supporters got a reply from David Horne. Have a read of our initial analysis (a link to the original message is at the top of the document).

The amount of spin there is crazy. We made David Horne aware of our reply and offered to publish a response. It never happened.

SaveECRewards - can you get yourself to one of our forum meals sometime?

I agree.

Though most on this forum will surely have read the advice to get vouchers to bump up their points to sensible totals to qualify for Rewards.

I agree. They didn't consult with anyone I know, and I know a lot of people who used to book almost exclusively through the East Coast website.

Their minimum spend excuse is awful; as you say there was no minimum on EC tickets. Non-EC tickets could easily be booked at any value simply by purchasing e-vouchers anyway.

As for "the majority of our customers are in favour of the changes that we are making," that's a joke as I am not aware of anyone who favours the changes to Rewards.

Their spin continues unabated.

IIRC with the ScotRail questionnaire it asked how often I travelled by train and what operators I used. The next question asked how often I used the train and whether it was leisure or commute.

They will have used a company such as E-rewards or Valued Opinions etc and if you don't click EC when mentioning the companies you travel with you would be phased out.

At a guess they will have got their 2,000 responses within a couple of hours. The only way they really could have got good quality information is by either getting a hold of the EC mailing list, boarding trains and issuing questionnaires or standing on stations.

The chances of getting the mailing list is no chance IIRC EC said they would not share your details with anyone and then if they allowed either of the other two they would have had to have allowed the other bidders to do the same which is again unlikely.

You are now being used as evidence the new scheme is a success!

You must like Nectar, you must welcome the changes, and you must think it's so much better than the old scheme ;) :P

Why are you lying? I dont care either way. I merely pointed out to you that you had on your website a number so small in the grand scheme of EC rewards compared to how many people were members. Not my fault you cant keep your website up to date with the correct in formation.

This is also false. You mention 'spin' from VTEC yet you are doing exactly that without the full data. Ill point out again that the money recieved covered the NON EC rewards,i.e. everything apart from tickets for journeys on EC. And speaking of spin in your first post you say you have 750 then your next post 749. Pedantic I know but you would do better sticking to the facts.

If you are going to carry on with this blatant misrepresentation then you are doing yourself and your cause a disservice. The very spin you accuse VTEC of doing for their cause.

Actually they are running two loyalty schemes - Nectar and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Three at the moment as EC Rewards is running while the wind it down.

IAG runs four loyalty schemes - BA Executive Club, Iberia Plus, Avios.com and Diamond Club (it's a bmi legacy but it's still running).

As for the timing we started in January when the changes were announced via email to all Rewards members. I must admit I hadn't seen the announcement when the franchise was awarded or this campaign would have happened much sooner.

Back in Feb/Mar what we asked was they'd put the introduction of Nectar on hold for a few months and launch a proper consultation.

The first Mk4 out the depot tomorrow morning has the capability to carry just short of six hundred people (I think) so any petition would at a guess need around 20,000 signatures to stand any chance of them taking notice.

Without the massive Virgin advertising budget I doubt we'd get that high. Virgin seem to have an army of supporters that will do anything asked of them (witness the WCML petition in 2012). The main purpose of the petition is just something we can point to to prove they don't listen.
Whilst Nectar will not be cheap to run (And it isn't as I have seen the costed projections from a company that was thinking of using the scheme a few years back) it will be much more cost effective to run that ECR is/was. It was always the assumption by most that Nectar was cheap to run. Will VTEC be able to bulk purchase along with VT being separate companies?

One of my initial assumptions was it was based on the perceived success on the west coast. As you point out the bids were in before they added Nectar. I do suspect the same person was responsible for it being on both franchises.

There has been a lot of noise on their social media platforms, however when you scrutinise the posts a lot of them are by the same group of people and the ranting is reducing by the week, it is nowhere near as vitriolic as it was when it first launched. I've not seen that much anti-Souter stuff on the social media platforms, it does happen. I've mentioned Souter when pointing out the hypocrisy of Branson (a few days after he was with Souter for the VTEC launch he was on Twitter talking about tackling homophobia).

Funny thing was I seen quite a few of the Facebook posts yesterday and the ones they had removed were relatively innocent ones complaining about rewards or how poor the ads were (considering it's a £10m campaign). They left up some of the crazier comments!

I removed the rest of your quote just because there's a lot to reply to. I appreciate your comments.

Anyway, odd though it was, and I was better off on the old schemes that were for high spenders it was the most generous scheme around at the time.

What odd is the previous operators concentrated on their high spenders (GNERtime, escape), Nectar only will benefit those who didn't even get up to the spend required for a basic reward (lounge access or wifi). They really seem to be rewarding (and badly at that) the wrong segment.

SaveECRewards - can you get yourself to one of our forum meals sometime?
Replied to your message. May is out for me, but hopefully June. I know at least one contributor who may be interested too so may come along wither with me or instead of me if I can't make it.

I agree.

I wonder if VTEC will do a survey in a years time to see if people are happy. By then everyone will have checked to see how many free tickets they've earned and for most it'll be zero.

Did you see how many people followed the advice to purchase e-vouchers? They had record sales in February! (download the PDF at the top of the page) As far as I knew I was the first one to suggest doing this, if you beat me to it sorry for claiming the credit ;)

For me this spike in e-voucher spend is proof that people really valued East Coast Rewards. I bet people didn't go to Sainsbury's on the last day of full points and emptied the shelves to get a higher Nectar balance.

Why are you lying? I dont care either way. I merely pointed out to you that you had on your website a number so small in the grand scheme of EC rewards compared to how many people were members. Not my fault you cant keep your website up to date with the correct in formation.
As I pointed out that was in the news section of the website. It said we got 225 posts in under 48 hours!

This is also false. You mention 'spin' from VTEC yet you are doing exactly that without the full data. Ill point out again that the money recieved covered the NON EC rewards,i.e. everything apart from tickets for journeys on EC. I just noticed I edited the wrong post! What happened was we were one away from 750 when I was typing the post and then when I submitted I checked and we'd already passed the mark. I edited the wrong post so yes it does look like we've gone from 750 to 749!

As we keep telling you we're working with the figures we have. I can't go back and ask for that missing information now.

However, you have to remember it was totally obvious that most people would redeem for full tickets, it was the best reward, but it was also the cheapest reward for EC to provide (that's why I asked about the cost of the non-EC rewards as these cost real money to provide).

How can you accuse me of spin, when you have quotes like "the majority of our customers are in favour of the changes that we are making" coming from David Horne himself (someone I usually respect) and the marketing department who were really bad with spin at the beginning.

IAG runs four loyalty schemes - BA Executive Club, Iberia Plus, Avios.com and Diamond Club (it's a bmi legacy but it's still running).

They are running one loyalty scheme - East Coast Rewards and participate in two - Nectar and Virgin Flying Club.

IAGs schemes are a mess and are in the middle of being devalued to hell. You can claim the same thing on a different site for less points whilst Avios has been hacked.

One thing the IAG schemes do though is sell their points to third parties. For example shopping sites, e-rewards etc so they make money by selling points.

The franchise was awarded on November 27th and Nectar was announced then the contracts were probably signed before Christmas. From the paperwork I saw with a previous employer a few years back there was a minimum two year buy into Nectar.

It was always the assumption by most that Nectar was cheap to run. Will VTEC be able to bulk purchase along with VT being separate companies?

Nectar isn't a cheap option but it will be a much cheaper option than maintaining your own in-house system where you are liable for everything. You purchase points from the third party (Nectar) so your liability is set. With ECR they had absolutely no idea whether I would log in and ship a crate of beer or travel for four.

If the Nectar scheme isn't set up through Virgin with the points being sold to VTEC and VWC as they are issued they are missing a trick and with the business acumen behind Virgin and Stagecoach I'll be astonished if this isn't what is happening.

To get the full picture the question regarding what cost is allocated to a free journey when redeemed should have been asked along with how many tickets were redeemed. I'm not sure if an FOI would have allowed you to see the rewards scheme accounts but it may have been worth a shot. The profit will have been significantly less than is though however as the bulk of the travel would have been first class. Factor in fuel, cleaning, wear and tear, catering etc and then the cost of a free ticket adds up pretty quick. I know wear and tear etc won't be much but it will need to be taken into account.

The fact that there was a devaluation weeks before the scheme was closed suggests that Virgin/Stagecoach have thrown a wobbly at the potential liability on the balance sheet. Why else would you devalue when it was likely to be closed?

What odd is the previous operators concentrated on their high spenders (GNERtime, escape), Nectar only will benefit those who didn't even get up to the spend required for a basic reward (lounge access or wifi). They really seem to be rewarding (and badly at that) the wrong segment.

They will respond to that by saying they are rewarding everyone whilst they have something planned for their higher spenders.

I agree. They didn't consult with anyone I know, and I know a lot of people who used to book almost exclusively through the East Coast website.

The only way they could do this is to get the customer list from the old EC which is commercially sensitive and if it were to be shared with Virgin/Stagecoach it would have had to have been shared with the other bidder which means everyones personal data would have to have been shared numerous times. Cue a lawsuit if that were to happen especially when EC said they would not share your details with third parties. Therefore any market research would have been done online via companies such as My Survey, E-rewards, Valued Opinions etc

First off, the website for me doesn't even have that picture on it. You didn't answer me about the fact that the Twitter and Facebook accounts had posted several new versions since then, updating supporters of its' progress.

With the 'non-full data', why does that matter? The scheme was making a profit by bringing new potential trade to people who only rarely travel, whilst also rewarding their own regular passengers, which could have been offsetting the costs. Point is, it was working as a marketing technique by encouraging people to either sample their routes or by keeping regular business.

Extremely petty if I'm honest. 'Oooooo you said you had 750 but you actually have 749, dimwit *snigger*'. Difference of 1. Stop knit picking.

What do you suggest then? I presume you're going to tell us to give up etc. Why should we? I mean, are we going to let VTEC permission to effectively do what they want with their passengers? They're not listening yet. For a company which apparently is extremely customer focussed and mindful of comments it's not doing very well. We asked for a reason for the cut, they said passengers were surveyed. Ok, so we asked if we could see the data. Nope. Catch 22. We don't know what really happened. It could be that the questions were not exactly impartial i.e. concentrating on Nectar. Additionally, who were these people? Who were surveyed? Why couldn't VTEC issue a survey via a hosting site for a minimal cost to ask all existing members of the rewards scheme at the time to ask their opinion? I wasn't surveyed, so I'm making myself heard through this.

But isn't it curious that GNER, NXEC and East Coast all carried on with the rewards scheme? Can't have been that high cost to do...
Don't you think that the real reason Nectar was brought in was because VTWC has it too. I mean, imagine VTEC having a better rewards scheme with better value than VTWC. The WCers would've been asking why couldn't they have it too? Can't have that, Branson needs a new island to play Lost on.

To be honest Clip as someone who 'doesn't care' you're posting some long posts and seem pretty passionate about the subject. It's all a bit odd really.

I think VTEC missed a trick here. They could have won over some travellers from air to rail if they'd left EC Rewards and targeted Avios devaluations, unfortunately they'd already announced Nectar and so some are going the other way.

The franchise was awarded on November 27th and Nectar was announced then the contracts were probably signed before Christmas. From the paperwork I saw with a previous employer a few years back there was a minimum two year buy into Nectar.

That's interesting to know, so it's worth keeping going so that they are aware the demand for an in-house scheme when they can drop out.

Remember Barclaycard had a scheme called rewards that was popular, they became a Nectar launch partner but dropped out as soon as they could when customers realised they were getting a raw deal.

The only way they could do this is to get the customer list from the old EC which is commercially sensitive and if it were to be shared with Virgin/Stagecoach it would have had to have been shared with the other bidder which means everyones personal data would have to have been shared numerous times. I've trimmed some paragraphs just to cut the reply size down but I appreciate your comments. Unfortunately time was ticking down when I was doing the FoI requests and so may not have asked the best questions. Although I have been sent some more FoI documents from another contributor which I'm looking through at the moment I think they do say what EC values a reward ticket at. More on that soon.

I knew VTEC didn't have access to the customer list but they did have access to the full details of the rewards scheme so they could assess the financial viability of it. All they needed to do was say in their bid there would be a loyalty scheme. Once they had access to the customer list they could have done a consultation, they didn't need to introduce Nectar on day one, doing so was a bad decision, keeping on the old loyalty scheme while checking with the existing members would have generated a lot of good will.

We'd have preferred an East Coast Rewards 'enhanced' BA style than Nectar. Even if they cut redemptions it would still work better than Nectar.

As for why East Coast altered the EC Rewards redemption levels it was announced before VTEC was awarded the franchise. We don't know what the other bidders planned. Eurostar (which was the favourite amongst most analysts) may have been planning to keep the scheme running, but as redemption levels hadn't changed for a while East Coast thought it was worth revising them.

As points were based on cash spend, but spent on fixed amounts it makes sense to raise them along with fares, but it was something EC hadn't done for a few years.

First off, the website for me doesn't even have that picture on it. You didn't answer me about the fact that the Twitter and Facebook accounts had posted several new versions since then, updating supporters of its' progress.
The picture was there, but it was on a News article, which made it clear that the 225 was referring to the number of signatures we got in under 48 hours. He's obviously happy to follow links on the site, but isn't happy to just click on the even more prominent petition link to find out the real number.

It's 761 at the time of writing. :)

As for the other things you've written, you're right about every operator except VTEC understanding the importance of the loyalty scheme.

When NXEC took over, they hadn't finalised their scheme but they said all GNERtime members would receive their benefits until their expiry date (not the artificial 30 Sept deadline set by VTEC), they also sent out a free ticket to all GNERtime and GNER365 members as a welcome to NXEC and sent other free tickets out periodically until they finalised their scheme. They invited GNERtime members to join a feedback panel to shape their rewards scheme.

How come NXEC, often considered the worst operator of the ECML did a better job at keeping their loyal customers happy than Virgin, the customer champion?

Everything VTEC have done so far involved keeping things the same at launch. The timetables in the ticket offices still even have East Coast branding on them (and inside them mention rewards).

Why did VTEC decide to force Nectar in on day 1 when they're obviously taking a wait and see approach on everything else?

You're at 764 now, I just signed it ;)

Keep up the good work and good luck! Hopefully some little part of East Coast can be saved :)

Why would you publish new timetables from day one just to change the logo, utter waste of money for two months

False advertising for one! The timetable booklets still claim you get East Coast Rewards on every purchase. They also have an intro with Karen Boswell in there.

But then there was no need to replace rewards from day one, if they kept everything else the same why didn't they do the same with rewards, then they would have had the time to do a proper consultation.

As I pointed out that was in the news section of the website. It said we got 225 posts in under 48 hours!

.

Nowhere on the nice shiny big and bold sticker does it say that though and that was up for a week or two after you had started it.

I just noticed I edited the wrong post! What happened was we were one away from 750 when I was typing the post and then when I submitted I checked and we'd already passed the mark. I edited the wrong post so yes it does look like we've gone from 750 to 749!

So spin then

As we keep telling you we're working with the figures we have. I can't go back and ask for that missing information now.
Well you should stop claiming that EC Rewards paid for themselves when you do not have the full information shouldn't you . That's called lying. And indeed spin. But of the worst kind

However, you have to remember it was totally obvious that most people would redeem for full tickets, it was the best reward, but it was also the cheapest reward for EC to provide (that's why I asked about the cost of the non-EC rewards as these cost real money to provide).

The cheapest maybe but seeing how you claim on your website and on here that the money they made form it more than covered the cost of the reward scheme- neglecting the fact that it is ONLY for the NON EC tickets - makes you claim invalid and in fact a half truth.

How can you accuse me of spin, when you have quotes like "the majority of our customers are in favour of the changes that we are making" coming from David Horne himself (someone I usually respect) and the marketing department who were really bad with spin at the beginning

I've not made comment on what they have said at all - I am making comment on YOUR spin and YOUR lies and misinformation on your website. Im pointing out that YOU are being a hypocrite by saying someone should lose the spin when you are physically lying to the members of the public( something I cant accuse VTEC of as they have not supplied me with the questions nor the sample of people they asked).

If you still cannot understand your own hypocrisy and your own lying to suit your own means then what hope is there for the rest of your campaign? Will you be continually updating your webpage and this thread with the claim that EC took in more than enough to cover their reward scheme - telling passengers lies?
First off, the website for me doesn't even have that picture on it. You didn't answer me about the fact that the Twitter and Facebook accounts had posted several new versions since then, updating supporters of its' progress.
Erm I may have missed that due to not being on the forum as I went away and had a life over the weekend.

Gateliner said:
With the 'non-full data', why does that matter? The scheme was making a profit by bringing new potential trade to people who only rarely travel, whilst also rewarding their own regular passengers, which could have been offsetting the costs. Point is, it was working as a marketing technique by encouraging people to either sample their routes or by keeping regular business.

It matters a great deal. If that's too hard for you to understand then fair enough but as I have pointed out above, you can not claim one thing when it is not true. It was making a profit was it? Can you back that up with full data please as that's a mighty big claim to make with out it.
You're right it was working but making a profit? Im not so sure. Because if it was such a resounding success and made a profit from all its sales then why did they a year or two ago actually increase how many points you needed for a ticket or two?

Extremely petty if I'm honest. 'Oooooo you said you had 750 but you actually have 749, dimwit *snigger*'. Difference of 1. Stop knit picking.
He brought me into it saying that I would be annoyed - but again they are not very good at presenting facts are they? Dimwit.

I think you will find that they already have done what they want to you haven't they? They have moved you all to a Nectar sc heme. Whether or not this campaign gets them to change their mind I don't know. I doubt they will but who knows!

Its not that curious is it really. His business already supports Nectar therefore its a business decision to move EC over to it I imagine that if he had carried on offering it then those on the West Coast would be up in arms about not having a similar scheme in place so one has to go and that would be the EC rewards. Its pretty simple to grasp.

To be honest Clip as someone who 'doesn't care' you're posting some long posts and seem pretty passionate about the subject. It's all a bit odd really

If my name is being brought into a subject in the OP then I have every right to reply to each and every point as I see fit. I am not really fussed with the overall campaign as it does not affect me, however as per the other thread which is where this came from, I was merely pointing out the SaveECrewards is lyingn in their promotional material and their complains of spin from VTEC is a high measure of hypocrisy when they are in engaged in similar propaganda themselves.

They've also promised to listen in the Red Report and have asked us to raise the volume to 11, we're happy to oblige

I'm not sure how much weight Richard Branson would have given VTEC is 90% owned by Stagecoach (10% Virgin Group) - wouldn't you be better off approaching Brian Souter than Richard Branson?

Personally, any reward scheme is fine by me, I don't expect rewards for simply buying a train ticket!

No, it was a NEWS article, the image said it under the caption! It was never a live feed. So please read the whole page before repeating this nonsense.

So spin then
Accidentally changing the wrong post to 750 is spin? Ok 749 and 750... ooohh.

We're on 792 now, should we post a new news article everytime someone signs?
Well you should stop claiming that EC Rewards paid for themselves when you do not have the full information shouldn't you . That's called lying. And indeed spin. But of the worst kind

No it's not. East Coast earned more than they spent on the rewards. They do not spend on their own tickets. The cost to them is only marginal.

The same as me redeeming Avios for a first class flight isn't losing BA £8000.

The cheapest maybe but seeing how you claim on your website and on here that the money they made form it more than covered the cost of the reward scheme- neglecting the fact that it is ONLY for the NON EC tickets - makes you claim invalid and in fact a half truth.

You keep saying this. You don't understand how loyalty schemes work. Offer an incentive that's worth a lot to the passenger but very cheap for you to offer yourself.

All the data is available via the website and has been openly available from the start. It increasingly sounds like you're basing your arguments upon skim-reading the front page of the website instead of actually analysing what's being said.

You're right it was working but making a profit? Im not so sure. Because if it was such a resounding success and made a profit from all its sales then why did they a year or two ago actually increase how many points you needed for a ticket or two?

I think the crucial part of this is they kept it instead of getting rid of it altogether. I mean, they could've got rid of it and yet kept it. Why keep an unsustainable area of the business? JAT.

He brought me into it saying that I would be annoyed - but again they are not very good at presenting facts are they? Dimwit.

Don't call me a dimwit. I'm telling you it's petty. Especially coming from someone who thought the petition still had only 250 signatories...

I think you will find that they already have done what they want to you haven't they? They have moved you all to a Nectar sc heme. Whether or not this campaign gets them to change their mind I don't know. I doubt they will but who knows!

Shall we just give up on democracy and politics then? I presume you didn't register to vote either? Oh well, they can do what they want.
Point is, we're the customers. We're the owners too. Why should we be bullied into submission by these corporate profit masters?
Yeah they moved us. And yeah we're not happy. We're voicing out discontent to a company who apparently cares about it's customer's opinions. See page 11 of their "Red Report" published on March 1st 2015 i.e. opening day of business.

So what you're trying to do here is attempting to agree with me while telling me I'm a f*cking idiot. I think that pretty much sums your stance up, you just have to argue every point and knit pick til the cows come home, or tell people to

If my name is being brought into a subject in the OP then I have every right to reply to each and every point as I see fit. Yeah I know you do. I've been on several vBulletin forums before. I'm more talking about how you post attacking the campaign with such resentment for us, yet apparently does not affect you...
Also, please point out where the people at Save East Coast Rewards are lying to me and back it up with hard facts please.

The current valid timetable as available in stations specifically says East Coast Rewards, it mentions getting free tickets which you can't do with Nectar (you get money off vouchers, which can be used towards a free ticket but they aren't free tickets).

Spot on, they claim they listen but they don't. We need to keep up the pressure as otherwise people will just believe Virgin when they say they listen.

Virgin have a reputation to live up to and we're holding them to it!

As for why don't we target Stagecoach? The brand is Virgin, and the only thing valuable about Virgin is their reputation. When they licence the brand out they expect certain standards. If we show these standards are not being kept it means Virgin may apply the pressure.

We know Brain Souter doesn't care. He doesn't claim to. However Virgin Group and Virgin Trains East Coast do. They've set their standards, we expect them to keep them.

If someone books a free Rewards ticket for a journey they would have made anyway then there is a cost in lost revenue for EC. It may be difficult to estimate exactly how much this lost revenue is, but a rewards ticket certainly isn't "free" for EC.

Just an update, Peterborough has the new timetables out for collection, same style as before (not sure what style Virgin West Coast is) also to note that there is a page on the new rewards scheme inside

But on the other hand if someone buys EC tickets because of the loyalty scheme, or generates extra revenue for EC by booking their third party tickets through the site then that generates income they never had before.

A lot of people used it to upsell (try out first class) or take journeys they hadn't planned to take before.

I guess you mean the timetable pages are the same style, all the other pages are in VTEC marketing style, loads of red.

The timetable layout has been the same since GNER, only difference is the colours for the catering, just used to be a grey highlight to show where the restaurant was operating.
